Baby Goose Is Charmingly Dumb and Tom Hardy Beats Some Ass: Clips From Warrior and The Ides Of March

Two of the movies I’m anticipating the most for the remainder of this year are George Clooney’s The Ides Of March and Gavin O’Connor’s Warrior. The subject matters are radically different, but each presents its own special appeal.

Warrior, a story about brothers who enter a mixed martial arts tournament for their own reasons born out of desperation, stars Joel Edgerton, Tom Hardy and Nick Nolte. I’m not a big MMA guy, but I love boxing and martial arts movies, and the early buzz on Warrior has been overwhelmingly positive. If watching guys beat the crap out of each other isn’t your bag, don’t turn away just yet. The performances look phenomenal, plus, well, you know — Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton. Here’s a clip, showing Hardy being brutally tough and absolutely brilliant.

As for The Ides Of March, well, you had me at Clooney, but throwing in Ryan Gosling as the political aide trying to help get his man (Clooney) elected president and then getting caught up in scandal rings my bell too. It also stars Evan Rachel Wood, a lovely and underused actress who sometimes gets short shrift due to her… peculiar dating history. Here’s a rather charming clip of Gosling and Wood as they meet and Gosling gloriously and adorably drops the ball.

I just watched Bronson last week and I can't believe Hardy wasn't nominated for an Oscar.

I certainly would have nominated him over Frank Langella in Frost/Nixon and Brad Pitt in Benjamin Buttons.

See...Gosling can shoot himself in the foot like that, multiple times, and still manage to get the girl. I do that? I'm screwed. Or, rather, not screwed. She'd have given me a disgusted look and walked away. Never to be heard from again.

I'd still go gay for him though.

That bastard.

I dont know... TWO BROTHERS FORCED TO FIGHT EACH OTHER BY CRUEL FATE!

Seems a little cheesey no? Dont get me wrong I like ass-kicking as much as the next person that loves ass-kicking but dont we already know Hardy will win? Or worse let his brother win.

Clooney plays Clooney in every damn film and people call that good? Why?

I don't find Evan Rachel Wood lovely, but to each his own.

I saw Warrior about a month ago and it is fan-fucking-tastic.
A heavy drama surrounding familial strife and reconciliation centered around some of the best ass-kicking you've ever seen.

And I saw a free preview screening, for the record. I may see another preview screening of it again tomorrow.
