Making Men Obsolete One Lesbian Film at a Time

Female Sperm: It's the Future / Dustin Rowles

Trailers | May 26, 2009 | Comments (19)

I find the trailer for the low-budget indie, Baby Formula, mildly intriguing. From longtime stunt coordinator turned director, Baby Formula is about a lesbian couple who want to have each other’s biological. So, they turn to science, and discover a method — never used on humans before — that turns the female egg into sperm and they artificially fertilize each other. The result: Four-boobied children (I kid).

I have no idea how the movie will actually turn out, and the trailer suggest it could go either way. But it’s kind of a fun idea and it wouldn’t be the first time a cast of unknowns and an obscure director created a solid lesbian film (see the underappreciated Kissing Jessica Stein.

A "lesbian film" needs to feature no less than five encounters: living room, pool-side, bathtub, gym and some dressing room type situation.

Needless to say this doesn't look like my kind of lesbian film, at all.

You left out the 'convert a straight girl to at least bi' scene.

This looks fun and interesting. It would be kinda cool if kids could be conceived without men. It would definitely be a boost to homosexuals everywhere... and men would have to carry even less responsibility when it comes to babies! No more paying child cupport to your divorced wife. She has HER OWN children and therefore has to take care of them herself!

Incidentally, if this were to be true and a woman uses her own sperm to impregnate herself wouldn't that be incest of the highest order, and bad for survival considering that any bad hereditary traits will definitely be passed on? The concept is a gender bending mindfuck of epic proportions.

Indie flicks can be just as bad as studio blockbusters, but at least the shitty indie flicks don't take all our money.

It seems like this kind of thing wouldn't be so hard. You take a sperm, pull out the nucleus, throw in the nucleus from the woman's egg, and use the sperm to fertilize the other woman's egg. You're guaranteed to get a girl that way, too.

how can you take a sperm if the idea is that you create life without using males at al?

Posted by: barf at May 26, 2009 9:20 PM

how do they get around the whole "lesbianism goes against god" thing?

Posted by: gp at May 26, 2009 9:26 PM

Ohmigod, love the lip sync at the end.

Is it sad that my reaction to the title of this post was basically "Noooooo, a world without penises is a world I don't want to live in!"

Female sperm? How quaint. You could take the nucleus out of any donor cell and pop it in the egg cell. It would probably be easier to do a chromosonal mix and match and start with an egg cell with a full count than mucking about with tinkered-with sperm and eggs.
On another note, I'm starting to feel squicky about the "biological children are better than adoptive" current running through so many movies. Memetics are more important than genetics in human societies, so who cares whose splooge and eggs made the kid?

Not at all. Although dildos have their uses nothing can beat a man having a hard on specifically for you, and you cannot beat real sex. And a dildo will never curl up with you and enjoy a cigarette with you after sex. And it will never provide a shoulder to cry on, etc...

Although we like to pretend that men are from Mars and women are from Venus, the truth is that men and women are very compatible. It's just very convenient to say they are totally different. it's convenient for various reasons from being a lazy way to describe eash other "They (the other sex) simply don't understand us" to commercial reasons by society creating totally different expectations for different genders and creating every product specifically for men and/or for women.

I don't think I would be interested in seeing this kind of film, a bit too over-the-top for my liking, but the world is getting wackier every day, so why not make a film before it may just happen one day.

Awww, my heart is warmed, ladies.

The shoulder and the curling stuff? I've got that covered at least.

I'm all for the forward march of science but I'm looking forward to conceiving my kids the fun way. After lots and lots of practice. But I'm not gonna begrudge anyone the way they go about making their family, hell I'm registered as an egg donor on the off chance someone wants to pay a few thou for my genetic material (so far that answer is: no).

But I'm not terribly intrigued by the trailer. Oh well.

Um no, that would just be cloning.
The idea with incest is that everyone has recessive lethal genes and that when these mix and match (so you have two) THEN you get the lethal effect. I've pretty sure this is only dangerous in general over the long run. How many fathers have abused their daughters to end up with perfectly (physically) healthy children?
And then some completely unrelated people have children and they still have recessive lethals and three out of four of their children die horribly and painfully by their teens (e.g. Nieman Pick disease).
Telling people they can't have babies because they might have some defect is wrong. To follow this logic you would say dwarves can't have children, or people with cystic fibrosis, and that mothers with a diagnosis of Downs syndrome would be required to abort the baby (even apart from the obvious historical references).
