God, I love Ellen Barkin. I always have, since the days of The Big Easy. She’s probably never received the accolades she deserves, due in part (I’m guessing) to her relatively unconventional looks (by Hollywood standards, in any event). But she can be a force of nature on the screen. Below, in the red band (gasp! dirty words!) trailer for Another Happy Day, she plays a mother traveling to see her son’s wedding, which requires meeting up with the rest of her estranged family and bringing along her in-and-out-of-rehab son.

I love movies like this. For some strange reason, I thoroughly enjoy movies about really fucked up families, if for no reason other than to give mine the appearance of normalcy. And this one looks like a doozy. Its cast is excellent, including Thomas Haden Church, Demi Moore, Ezra Miller (who is currently creeping out film festivals in We Need To Talk About Kevin), and Kate Bosworth.
