A.C.O.D. Trailer: I Would Put Something Clever Here, But My Parents Are Divorced.

A.C.O.D. is an acronym for Adult Children Of Divorce. I suppose that means that I am an A.C.O.D., just like Carter (Adam Scott).

Go me.

Carter has a younger brother (Clark Duke) that has decided to marry his girlfriend of 4 whole months. Carter’s parents, Hugh (Richard Jenkins) and Melissa (Catherine O’Hara), still fight whenever they have to interact with each other. Hugh has since married Sondra (Amy Poehler). Carter isn’t coping well, so he revisits his childhood psychologist (Jane Lynch), only to find out that he was part of a study concerning children of divorce. He was in a book!

Then comes fellow child of divorce Michelle (Jessica Alba), with her allure of some kind, causing Carter to question his relationship with girlfriend Lauren (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). It’s existential, twee, and highly inoffensive-looking, so enjoy the trailer, won’t we?

Let’s get real: Jessica Alba over Mary Elizabeth Winstead? SHENANIGANS.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • Whelp that's one movie I wont be seeing with my dad (my primary movie buddy since no one else I know likes to go to movies as often as us. Its all his fault anyway so he should take me) 20+ years later and my parents have only had conversations through lawyers. If/when my sister and I get married is going to be a disaster.

But Jessica Alba? Really Adam Scott?

  • dizzylucy

Based on the cast alone, I will probably see this. But I wish they'd swapped Alba out for a more interesting actress.

  • sanyo

"It’s existential, twee, and highly inoffensive-looking". The music screams this.

I probably won't care for the film itself as much as seeing Jane Lynch and Adam Scott on screen together again. Eh, you take what you can get. Netflix or second-run though.

  • "Let’s get real: Jessica Alba over Mary Elizabeth Winstead?" I can totally see that. Hell, I'd make the same choice myself.

  • finneganscake

The photo with the face cut out? Yeah, my mom had one of those with the decapitated head of my father on our refrigerator.

  • mairimba

So it's a thing for Adam Scott to pick bland, Hollywood-hot actresses as his love interest? No sabe na el nene.

  • Drake

OK, you're right, this was twee-intensive, but I also laughed quite a bit (long-term ACOD - fortunately my parents get along OK now. Of course, it took about 20 years for that to happen). I won't seek it out in a theatre, but I'll keep an eye out for it after that.

  • lowercase_ryan

"with her allure of some kind"

Yeah, elusive that. Just can't quite put my finger on it...

  • e jerry powell

    Would you even want to?

  • ,

I just realized I'm an ACOD.

Wait ... I don't mean I just realized my parents divorced, just that I never think about it and it never comes up.* Until now.

    I've got a name! I've got a name!

*--The only problem it ever created for me was trying to figure out the time schedule for visits at Thanksgiving/Christmas. That was a chore.

Aren't there a lot of us by now? I'm guessing pretty soon we'll out number the people whose parents are still together.

  • Jch

    54% does mean you outnumber...

  • emmalita

And then there are those of us who just WISHED their parents would get divorced.

  • upstate

Will it not be weird to have Ben making out with Leslie next season on P&R, having played stepson/stepmom in a movie?

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

Weird, kind of inappropriately hot-- tomato, tomato.

  • Jiffylush

    ACOD and ACOA, winning

  • Modernlove

I actually laughed out loud a couple times watching this. That coupled with the fact that I'd watch Adam Scott paint a house while reading legal memos, I'm pretty excited to see it.

  • anikitty

So you've seen his other work? (I kid, he's adorable)

  • e jerry powell

I've seen him wearing a prosthetic penis...

Couldn't Jessica Alba be the step mom, and Amy Poehler one of the love interests? It's just Ben Wyatt and Leslie Knope ...

  • JenVegas

Oh. I didn't know I had an acronym. Go us! Also, I think I'd watch this cast in pretty much anything. OK, Alba is a stretch, but everyone else.
