A Generic Spielbergian Crowd Pleaser?

Many of you may have already caught the teaser trailer for the Steven Spielberg produced, J.J. Abrams’ directed Super 8, due out next summer either in bootleg form or ahead of Iron Man 2 (due to a malfunction, my audience actually saw this trailer twice, but didn’t see the one for Inception). I must say, for all the hype and mystery ahead of the debut of this trailer, it’s fairly generic, in that Spielbergian way that I for which I suppose Abrams was aiming. It didn’t particularly whet my appetite for the film anymore than simply knowing that J.J. Abrams was going to direct an alien film.

Still don't know what it's about.
Still don't care.

Holy crap, I quit watching halfway through that trailer I was so bored.

I didn't notice this until the second time watching it (aka, JUST NOW) but it sounds like the secure location in Ohio is Wright-Patt Air Force Base. I live about 20 minutes, give or take, from Wright-Patt. That is all.

Oh, and I want to see this. I don't know why.

I love that the Abrams geeks are already dissecting every still frame of this teaser for "clues" as to what it pertains.

Nevermind that this is likely going to end up being "Cloverfield 2".

AAAAAAAHHHHHH! The crossing gates are flashing! The terror! The terror!

Was that a commercial for Hemi engines? Because it should be. That train didn't just derail; it did back-flips.

"Hemi. Your truck will be able to fuck a train."

Was that "Super 8", or "suppurate"? I couldn't tell.

The one thing I think is interesting (and just that, not going for "cool!" but it is curious) is that, like Cloverfield, this trailer was made before any actual real filming was done for the movie. Abrams is only now saying he wants to direct it himself. Or so I gather from my wonky memory. Hi.

What's in there? What could it be?

Oh my god it's the newspaper kid! Two dollars!

Turns out that it's actually a set video recorded when Lindsay Lohan got locked in a rail car and JJ Abrams was standing outside holding a bag of cocaine and a dildo.

God you are all so fucking sophisticated. What would you prefer, some indy mumblecore dreck you can discuss with your hipster pseudo-intellectual friends? Looks badass to me.

There's a comma missing after "due out next summer," so when I read the sentence I thought you meant that the entire movie would be out next summer in bootleg form, like you were making a snarky comment about how quickly new movies are being bootlegged and available for download/purchase as soon as the film is released, but no... I'm just a grammar nerd.

/not meant to criticize, but to share how pathetic I am

It looks good to me too, Gavin.

Yes. We'd like more indy mumblecore dreck like Iron Man 2 or Inception or Kick-Ass.

Our pseudo-intellectual friends all agree you're a moron.

Looks good to me. Don't know what you damn hipsters are bitching about.

The most beneficial cinema we have witnessed in many years! This only one will stay with you long right after it is usually above. For the teen dorks that stated they did not appreciate it, go see twilight again! More effective still, place down the cell phones and basically pay interest!

Apart from the actions that keeps you for the edge of the seat, the romance and concept of dreams vs. simple fact totally produce this motion picture. The acting in all elements was immaculate. I obtained chills every time Marion Cotillard came on screen, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt altered my opinion of him on this film, he did awesome stunts (without the need of a double) and did a terrific work as Leo's right-hand man. And as for Leo, effectively, have you possibly viewed a overall performance exactly where he does badly? His sensible romantic relationship with Mal in the cinema coupled with his conniving tricks to get into people's minds blew me apart.
