Ah hell. i09 has slowly become a formidable competitor. Not only did they write a Revenge of the Fallen review that put my Michael Bay tiny penis thesis to shame, but now they’ve recut Roland Emmerich’s 2012 trailer into a 70s Disaster Porn movie. And it’s fucking phenomenal.

Please don’t leave us for i09. Actually, it’s great, but it still has that sleazy Nick Denton vibe underlying it.

Here’s that trailer:

I. Love. This.

But don't worry; I'd never leave Pajiba for io9. I check io9 regularly for news and shit, 'cause sometimes they throw in some actual science news if it's sexy enough. But while I'm reading, I never forget that io9 is part of that slick homogenized Gawker/Jezebel/Gizmodo/etc. Consortium of websites that all look alike.

Pajiba will always be better than that.

Excuse me, gonna go play the video again and dance to the porno-wokka-chikka music like a happy idiot.

If they actually advertised the movie this way, there is no way in hell I would not go see it.

Alex, if only you were my real boyfriend. Sigh.

I've always wished that famously shitty movies got recut and retouched, but unless they're made by George Lucas, it never happens. I'm probably the sole person who thinks that maybe, just maybe, The Golden Compass would have been better if they spliced about thirty more minutes of footage into the movie, just to slow things down and give people time to digest plot developments, and also to show maybe a love scene between Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman ripping their skin tight clothes off and throwing their beautiful heaving bodies against each other... and maybe adding the original ending of the book, for good measure.

Man, I never get what I want.

HA! see ya, suckers.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at July 8, 2009 7:43 PM

That was fine work.

I still think io9 has there central philosophy eschewed to the dork rather than the geek fandom. Ah, yes, that ancient battle, dating back to the 1970s. What, man? They had like Commodores back then, and they ran on diesel. It was the dark ages before the Geek godness was relegated to more than just your wealthy eccentrics.

You know one site I just might end up liking more than Pajiba? TED.com They don't do the same thing as y'all though, so maintain threat level yellow.

Also, just for kicks, here is a Banksy gallery that's fairly new. Watch the slideshow.

io9 is useful in it's own way, but I'm usually there looking for Doctor Who spoilers rather than movie reviews. And they will never be able to compete with your comment diversions...

Posted by: Anne (in Reno) at July 8, 2009 8:10 PM

Woops. I meant their.

Posted by: Jackseppelin at July 8, 2009 8:17 PM

Wow, you were right. That review pretty much craps on the "tiny penis" one. Hell, they even threw in a tiny penis joke.

Posted by: Vermillion at July 8, 2009 8:20 PM

oh my god, I haven't laughed that hard in ages. that was dead friggin' brill.

but no worries, Dustin. i won't be abandoning ship until you completely sell out. then it'll be all like, "yeah, i was commenting there back when no one knew what the fuck Pajiba was OR how it was pronounced. That place has gone so far downhill." (also, i agree with what Jerce said about it being part of the Gawker scary empire. although it makes me sad that they have an art site that i kinda love.)

From the Transformers review:
Let yourself go in your adult diaper, Michael Bay invites you.

PLEASE let that be the byline on the DVD cover

If they actually advertised the movie this way, there is no way in hell I would not go see it.

Agreed. I have yet to see a trailer make me want to go see a movie that badly (outside of District 9, but for different reasons) than THIS one.

This is how to sell a shitty movie. This is how you make us support you.

io9, tip of the hat to you.

Posted by: Fredo at July 8, 2009 8:46 PM

That was fine and all. But, I won't be leaving Pajiba. Oh, no. No,no,no,no,no. Nuh-uh. Not that fast, there buddy. I don't tire of my heroes that quickly. In fact, you weren't, like, trying to get rid of me were you? Hmm...nah...couldn't be.

I assure you I'll stay until THE BITTER END. Do you read me? I ain't leaving you, no matter how many times you call them, and no matter how many times you try to explain your weird idea of friendship. WE ARE FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK NOW AND YOU CANNOT GO BACK ON YOUR WORD. Being a FRIEND is like making a promise. Don't forget that. Ever.

*deep breath* Sigh. It's so nice around here today. Carry on.

Wow, I never watched the original trailer but it looks like that movie is nothing but pixels crashing into pixels and some monks.

Suck.

Posted by: annoyingmouse at July 8, 2009 10:32 PM

Oh, Dustin, it's so unseemly to beg.

Don't worry, we love you just the way you are.

Posted by: MM at July 8, 2009 10:34 PM

Slim, if you leave me here alone with these people I swear to Godtopus I'll hunt you down and use your manly bits as a rope swing.

I'm never leaving either. Even if a riff grows between us that causes us to hate each other forever, I will still spend the rest of my days lurking.

Posted by: George at July 9, 2009 3:07 AM

Pajiba has gotten away from the scathing reviews for bitchy people,
it is now just trivial gossip, trendy vocabulary, and pussbags...
change Pajiba or you will be IO9'd!

Posted by: arguer at July 9, 2009 9:01 AM

Hum, I haven't heard of I09, but then again, I don't get out much.

I was going to make a comment about the movie having a black president back on the Pajiba review, but couldn't think of something funny to put with it.

Posted by: BWeaves at July 9, 2009 10:11 AM

I just went and read the Io9 review of Transformers:ROTF and it's the first time I thought ROTF stood for "Roll On The Floor" as in Michael Bay is laughing his ass off at everyone who forked over money to see his movie.
