Do You Prefer Matt Damon As Serious Action Star Or Serious(ly Gay) Dramatic Actor?: Elysium vs. Behind the Candelabra Trailers

After getting a look at the exoskeleton-looking mechanism Matt Damon wears in Elysium yesterday, we now have the trailer for the sci-fi/action flick. Damon plays Max, one of the unlucky people forced to live on a violent, crumbling, and filthy Earth while the wealthy live on the Elysium. Max allows some shady looking fellows to perform surgery on him with a bone saw, fusing the exoskeleton to his body so that he can take down the elite that are living it up on the fancy space station. Bunch of assh*les.

In Behind the Candelabra, Damon plays Scott Thorson in the Liberace biopic. Thorson was Liberace's (Michael Douglas) lover for five years, until he could no longer ignore Liberace's wandering ding-dang and split. Damon is rocking his lip gloss and fabulous outfits in this one, I must say. However, the most glorious part of the whole trailer might be Rob Lowe wearing Joan Rivers' face.

So, how do you prefer your Matt Damon? Choose or Damon will punch you in the f*cking face.

I'll take the Team America Matt Damon.

  • foolsage

I think, of all the Matt Damons, I prefer the comic one. Yes, I like him as an action star and a dramatic actor, but he's also pretty funny.

On the set of Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season:

    Singing with Sarah Silverman:

Edit to add: Sorry. It's criminal to post the Sarah video and not the response by Jimmy as well. My bad. Here it is:

  • e jerry powell

Oh, like I could give any other answer.

  • Uriah_Creep

    Sorry, wrong movie.

  • Buck Forty

My lust for Jodie Foster continues. A foolish, hopeless lust destined for infinite disappointment.
But this movie may just be the parallel universe where it can be requited...

  • jiffeylube

"We're gonna break into the most heavily guarded place in the universe?" I like to imagine Nic Cage delivering this line just like "We're gonna steal the Declaration of Independence?"

  • emmelemm

I'll take both Damons. And it's not like I even like Matt Damon all that much. But honestly, he's kind of adorable AND a really solid action star.

  • Allijo

Was that a bonus Richard Armitage sighting in Elysium?
Also, one of my personal mottos is "There's no such thing as too much Matt Damon." I'm all in.

  • Allijo

Wasn't Richard Armitage. That's too bad. But at least there's Matt Damon.

  • Yocean

Elysium looks like it burrowed heavily from Gunmu ( or Alita the Battle Angel as known in States) a Japanese comic from which James Cameron based Dark Angel TV series. But it could use more crazy cyborg battles, martial arts and super sci fy settings

  • John W

I'll take the seriously gay actor but only if every five minutes he stops and yells: DRAAAAAMAAAAAA!

  • danobc

is the elysium ring a subtle "fuck you" from blompkam to everyone who caused the halo movie fiasco?

anyway, in the trailer there are so many hints on how a live action Halo or Mass Effect could look like. there are even some "pelicans" and "ME Shuttles".

Bring on the Damons. Bring em ON!

I was crossing fingers Elysium (hearing that it is the same director as District 9 perked my ears right up), but that trailer reminded me of one hundred other action movies. I'll wait for reviews before I decide whether or not to get excited or bummed out.

Now the Liberace movie? I'm there.

I guess what I'm saying is I prefer my Damon with feathered hair and a heaping helping of fabulous.

  • Guest

Ellen / He-Man Damon is not a plus.

But as long as it isn't Fat Damon (See:The Informant!) or Skinny Damon (See:Courage Under Fire) or South African Damon (See: Invictus) or Sexually Confused Homicidal Damon (See: The Talented Mr. Ripley) all Damon is good Damon.

Bourne / 30 Rock / Dogma / Kimmel Damon is the best I.M.O.

  • foolsage

I can't argue with that. I'd add "Good Will Hunting" Damon though to the "best" list; I thought he was quite good there. He also did great voice work in "Titan A.E.", a seriously underrated gem written by Joss Whedon.

I will never forget when I saw that; we were doing an early employee screening at the Alamo Drafthouse after the theatre closed; so it was late at night, we were all drinking beers, and in the middle of a relatively quiet and empty theatre I inadvertently (and a bit tipsy.. I was you know... younger) yelled 'holy shit it's Matt Damon!' as soon as he popped up; everyone stared back at me until the owner then loudly replied: 'whoa; it *IS* Matt Damon' and then everyone laughed instead of staring me.

  • MrsAtaxxia

    Don't tell Scotty.

The best damon is always the damon sleeping with your girl friend.

  • I will take all of the Damons!!!

  • You lost me at "bonesaw".

  • Pinky McLadybits

  • MrsAtaxxia

I choose ALL THE DAMONS. I want to run away and have scary post apocalyptic adventures with crazy exo-skeleton Damon and then I want to do donuts in the glitter Rolls Royce in an empty Vegas parking lot with lip gloss Damon. I want it all.

  • emmelemm

I like where you're going with that.

  • Pinky McLadybits

This sounds like the perfect day.

  • MrsAtaxxia

Bonus round! Afterward we three can take it back old school and pahk the cah in hahvad yahd.

Ella. if you think Daniel`s report is something... on monday I got a brand new Renault 5 from having made $9247 this last 5 weeks and in excess of $10k this past-month. without a doubt its the most comfortable work I have ever had. I started this 5 months ago and pretty much immediately began to bring home more than $76... per-hr. I use the details on this web-site,

I kinda like the Liberace one, but I've never been much for boys in transformeroos.

  • kirbyjay

I can only imagine that Matt Damon and Michael Douglas laughed their way through the entire filming. This brings to mind Ripley's green trunks. ARRRRGGGGHHHH
    P.S. I love Matt Damon

  • NateMan

Elysium. Always the scifi option. Though I still need to watch the trailer to confirm.

  • RE: Elysium: I see Hollywood hasn't lost the deft and subtle knack for social commentary that has been so effective over the years.

  • Fabius_Maximus

People, as a whole, are stupid. Sometimes, you have to hit them over the head with something, so they can recognize it.

  • JJ

Given that it's coming from the same South African director who made District 9, I'm setting aside my cynicism for it.

  • Pants-are-a-must

Can we clone him, please? That way we could choose as many Damons as we'd like.

  • Miss Laaw-yuhr

I like my Damon like I like my men - anyway I can get 'em.
