Zombieland Director Explores the Seedy Underbelly of Pizza Delivery
It's an achingly slow news day, so this evening is about catching up on older news that we couldn't be bothered with in the first place. Aren't you thrilled?
This post concerns Ruben Fleischer, who everyone loves because he directed Zombieland. If you didn't like Zombieland then please see the door on your left, and don't let it hit your ass on the way out. He'd been rumored to be up for half a dozen projects post-Zombieland, and sort of by default, it looks like he got slotted into a movie called 30 Minutes Or Less. My guess is that it was the first one that was actually ready to go. It's set to begin filming this summer.
The action comedy is about a slacker pizza delivery guy who is forced to rob a bank by a couple of goons who strap explosives to his chest. The Black-Listed script comes from Matthew Sullivan and Michael Diliberti.
The lead pizza delivery man role has not yet been cast, but his best friend -- a high school teacher -- has, in the form of "Parks and Recreation's" Aziz Ansari. There's a hard rumor (i.e., a rumor that's been repeated so often it feels true) that Danny McBride will play the lead goon. Hunter Stephenson over at Slashfilm has actually read the script, and suggests that the comedic sensibility is in line with Observe and Report, which could be good or bad. I like the dark, edgy comedy until it sinks too far into the misanthropic, which is where I thought O&R ended up. In either case, both Danny McBride and Aziz Ansari would seem ideal for a movie of that sensibility.
