Weinstein/Dimension’s Youth in Revolt, starring Michael Cera, has been pushed from its original release date of October 30 back to January 15, 2010.
The company’s Liz Biber says, “This is in no way a slight to the film.” She’s the executive vp of publicity, so I think we can all trust her completely. She added, “It screened fabulously in Toronto and now we want to give the film more time to build word of mouth and maybe even hit a few more festivals. The movie will be an excellent piece of counterprogramming against the heavier Academy fare in January.”
Or, more realistically, they didn’t want to have to deal with it while trying their hardest to win an Oscar with director Tom Ford’s A Single Man, which the Weinsteins picked up at the Toronto International Film Festival. And if things keep going the way they have been for the Weinstein Co., maybe the January date for Youth in Revolt will help them live a little longer.
The film is now opening against The Book of Eli, from Warner Bros., and the Weinsteins’ own Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, though it’s doubtful their two releases that day will see any audience overlap.
