Yahoo Can't Tell Ass From Hole in Ground

By Dustin Rowles | Trade News | April 30, 2013 | Comments ()

Yahoo, the Bill Gates search engine owned by AOL, really needs to fire whoever is in charge of assigning pictures to their articles. Yesterday, the entertainment portal, whose major rival is Chum Hum, totally Zuckerberg'd two posts, attaching images of Sarah Shahi for an article about Sarah Silverman, and John Singleton for a piece on John Krasinski. It's pretty racist, too, because apparently Lycos is under the assumption that all white women named Sarah look alike.

One mistake, I get. But two? Go home, Ask Jeeves. You're drunk!

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

I'm so confused. Yahoo is owned AOL? Bill Gates owns either of them? Why the header pic of Bing? Is this an end-of-April Fool's joke meant to bemuse?

  • BLZ Bubb

    Yahoo? is that still around?

  • dizzylucy

They probably should have Googled images of the people to verify it first.

Also, the sheer mention of Chum Hum makes me want to put my fist through a wall.

  • lowercase_ryan

    What the hell is this?

  • Joe Grunenwald

I definitely prefer Chum Hum. I frequently use it to find out where I can spend my Bitcoins.

  • zeke_the_pig

I'm not complaining that a picture of Sarah Shahi showed up instead of Silverman

  • ,

    Me either ... neither ... um ...

  • Life was the best show.

  • kaasefras

I don't know that Sarah Shahi identifies as white.

  • e jerry powell

I didn't either. The first thing I saw her in was L Word, where she was cast as Mexican.

  • Freds

She's Iranian, so of course she does. Iranians are generally considered to be white.

  • kaasefras

I don't presume to know how Sarah Shahi specifically identifies but I don't think it's a given for a woman whose father is from Iran and mother is from Mexico to consider herself white.

  • Sara_Tonin00

I didn't know Persians were considered white rather than Arab or Semitic.

  • Freds

It's complicated but most would say white. Persians are definitely neither Arab or Semitic though.

  • Kobie

We should ask the fine people who populate the comments sections of Yahoo stories for their opinion. I'm sure it will be reasoned, concise and not at all horrifyingly racist as fuck.

  • BigBlueKY

I keep seeing commercials for "" on my network station and it surprises me EVERY time that they're still trying to make that happen.

  • BWeaves

Funny, I just saw a bunch of ads for Bing a couple nights ago. I don't know, if you have to advertise to get people to try your search engine, maybe you're doing it wrong.

  • Arran

But apparently more people choose Bing for the web's top searches! Try!

I'm guessing "more people" chose Bing because the Bing It On website doesn't adequately represent what Google searches actually turn up.

  • Pinky McLadybits

I actually tried to the little Google vs. Bing test and chose Google every time. So then Bing wanted me to try again so I could choose them. NAW THANKS.

  • Arran

You can easily tell which is which in that "challenge" because the Google results look pretty devoid of eye-catching pictures and colour. This is because it only shows the left side of the Google results, and Google puts its colourful stuff on the right.

  • Pinky McLadybits

I guess. Though I wasn't trying to decide which was which. I was just choosing which I liked.

  • Anna von Beav

Do people even use Yahoo, though?

  • Adrien

yeah, I still use it for news. I prefer yahoo mail over gmail.

  • Strand

My mother hasn't changed her search engine since the late 90s and still uses Yahoo. I think Yahoo Answers is still an inexplicably thriving community though.

  • pumpkin

Judging from the people who comment on Yahoo news items, only the absolute dumbest and the most racist of the species.

  • clancys_daddy

Aww come on. You have to admit it can be entertaining to poke them just a bit to see how far they can go. Just mention Obama or gun control and watch the feathers fly.

  • Pinky McLadybits

I use AWWWW YISSSS for my news.

    Someone make that a thing.

  • God Of Bal-Sagoth

I'm a big fan of the new FUCK YEAH, BITCHES search engine.
