Could Bootylicious Be the Next Wonderlicious?

I Can’t Believe I Just Wrote That; I’m Really Sorry / Dustin Rowles

Trade News | November 11, 2008 | Comments (62)

In this shiny new bombard-the-shit out of you with posts all day long format we’ve been running here since September, one of the nice advantages is that — when I see some bullshit rumors floating around — I can actually let them sit a day or so to see if anything is confirmed or else pull the rumor back out when there’s little else to report or review. Here’s an instance of the latter:

The L.A. Times (via Slashfilm) is reporting that Beyonce Knowles recently had a sit-down with the folks at D.C. Comics and Warner Brothers to discuss the possibility of playing Wonder Woman.

“I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?” said Beyonce.

Maybe. But, is there any chance we can get a black Wonder Woman who isn’t played by Beyonce? She may do wonders for the costume (ha! See what I did there? Wonders …. Wonder Woman … oh fuck off. It’s Veteran’s Day. I should be out shooting terrorists or something), but she acts like I dance, which is kind of like Paul Rudd, only without the rhythm. You know how great actresses light up the screen? Yeah, well Beyonce sort of sucks the life out of the screen, and then body-slams the screen’s corpse onto a cobblestone floor and then takes a shit on it. She sure is pretty, though.

And in related news, also via Slashfilm, the powers that be actually want McG to direct the eventual Wonder Woman adaptation, though they are in the “just talks” phase. $7 says that, should McG get the gig, Drew Barrymore will be your Wonder Woman. Also, Wonder Woman will suck. Eggs. Through urethras.

Has there not been a African-American action hero lead? Berry as Catwoman was a bomb, and she is accomplished as an actress. This very talented singer/dancer would destroy the franchise due to her lack of ability on the silver screen.

If this movie has to be made it either has to be Jolie or Hathaway. Jolie maybe tired of the genre and Hathaway may not be able to pull it off either. At least the costume would be fun to look at.

I've yet to receive confirmation that Bejuuncey (whatever) is not really an animatronic cockholster for Jay-Z, with a Casio calculator for brains.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at November 11, 2008 10:17 AM

I was going to say I once had a dream that Beyonce was going to give me a blow job, and just at the moment she was about to apply her lips to my manly staff of life I woke up, and should I have been grossed out or severly disappointed, but merely reading

"Eggs. Through urethras."

just gave me a severe pain in the pants.

*Assumes fetal position.*

Posted by: bucdaddy at November 11, 2008 10:18 AM

That shit's messed up Rowles.

I would wager, BSlim, that it's not even a Casio calculator, but that spinny wheel thing for children that informs you, "A cow says: MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO".

Posted by: Kash at November 11, 2008 10:22 AM

Jolie or Hathaway

Anne Hathaway?!?

I could sooner see Miss Jane Hathaway in that role...

Posted by: Che Grovera at November 11, 2008 10:23 AM

I don't think I'm ready for that jelly.

Posted by: Coco Bravo at November 11, 2008 10:24 AM

See, this is because Beyonce HAS NO SOUL.

Not soul as in "soul sista", I mean literally no spiritual consciousness. That whole Sasha Fierce thing isn't diva; its her soul fighting to return to her body in violation of whatever hellish pact her mother made.

What? You people come up with a better explanation for how that "House of Dereon" crap is successful.

Posted by: Vermillion at November 11, 2008 10:26 AM

"Eggs. Through urethras."

Owie. Owie. Owie.

Yeah, it'd descend into about the Ninth Circle of Suckage, but did you really have to go there?

And Jane Hathaway as Wonder Woman? I'd better not go there, just the mental image is making Certain Parts try to hide.

Posted by: The Wanderer at November 11, 2008 10:29 AM

Yeah she probably shouldn't make movies. But she is really really ridiculously goodlooking. That video with her and Shakira! I'm quite mad for cock, but when I saw that I really wasn't sure anymore.

Posted by: Pants at November 11, 2008 10:35 AM

Actually, and sadly, the current crop of trannie looking females in Hollywood are sub-standard and not able to meet the physical requirements necessary to pull off Wonder Woman.

Maaaaaaaybe Megan Fox (if she put on 15 pounds)Angelina could play mom (and Linda Carter the grandma).

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at November 11, 2008 10:35 AM

Oh no. Obama is going to be the next victim of Beyonceitis. That bitch won't let anyone be more successful than her.

Posted by: Robert at November 11, 2008 10:45 AM

We've had 4 gay Supermen by my count so who's to say no to a black Wonder Woman. Say no to Buoyancy of course but not to someone with talent playing the part. Paula Patton would be good and more importantly has the goods to play the part.

Posted by: OscarTamerz at November 11, 2008 10:47 AM

Is that a picture of Tyra Banks?

Posted by: Pants at November 11, 2008 10:50 AM

I just need to clear up some of these analogies.

Good:
Golf ball through a garden hose
Chrome off a ball hitch

Bad:
Eggs through urethras

That seem about right?

Posted by: branded at November 11, 2008 10:56 AM

I like Sasha Fierce way better than Beyonce (if for no other reason than I support the cultivation of multiple personalities - makes the world that much more interesting). Beyonce might not be up to the challenge of playing Wonder Woman, but maybe Sasha is? She DID wear a bionic hand the other day.

Posted by: tt_marie at November 11, 2008 10:59 AM

but that spinny wheel thing for children that informs you, "A cow says: MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO".

To quote Mr. Slim: HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!

Also, I dare say that's not the character.

I mean...Superman Returns and Batman Begins still have their boys coming from Krypton and Gotham. I don't believe Beyonce's from Greece.

"But throwing out the actual character and stomping on her worked for 'Catwoman', Jay!"

Posted by: Jay at November 11, 2008 11:00 AM

Does anyone read enough Wonder Woman to pick a solid story they could adapt to a film? Or even a solid nemesis? Maybe if it worked as an ode to Greek Mythology and she was ripping up some Minotaurs and Harryhausian skeletons. I only know her within the context of Justice League but I kinda think it'd be a good idea.

Considering her franchise has survived the hilarity of the Lasso of Truth and the invisible plane, it can probably handle Beyonce.

Hey now, don't be dissin' the Lasso of Truth. I am sure many a man here first discovered the allure of submissive bondage at the end of a cute girl's jump rope.

Wait...I am the only one? *ahem* Carry on then.

Plus there is the whole link to the lie detector thing.

Posted by: Vermillion at November 11, 2008 11:57 AM

Aha Vermillion! Yesterday you were all knowing on all things Cheetah Girls and today, you seem to be an expert on Beyonce and her different personalities.

See this? This is me pointing and laughing. ;)

Posted by: jM at November 11, 2008 12:00 PM

V, oh I completely get you on the allure, but let's say the fantasy comes true. If you were tied up and had to tell the truth, and then Wonder Woman asked you what she should do to you? Given the deviancy of our lil' community, I'm not sure she would go for an adventure involving mayonnaise, jumper cables, a 747, a choir of midgets, and Mrs. Keaton from "Family Ties".

But I'm just making assumptions.

Posted by: branded at November 11, 2008 12:08 PM

"...and Mrs. Keaton from 'Family Ties'"

??????

Wow, I was getting really excited up until that point. I mean, mayonnaise, midgets, jumper cables - what's not to like? But bringing Mrs. Keaton into it...that's just dirty.

Anne Hathaway as Wonder Woman?

I like Anne Hathaway as much as the next person. I mean, how can you hate on a chick who purposely transitions to an "adult role" by showing her titties to a gay cowboy? In any case though, something about her smile bothers me. She looks normal until her face starts to try and express joy, at which point it looks like she transforms into a retarded baby. I don't really know specifically why I feel that way... Maybe her teeth are too far apart or her eyes are set too wide. Either way, when she smiles I wanna slap a padded helmet on her and feed her purple juicy juice drink boxes until she "makes a tinkle in her nappy."

Posted by: Roaddog at November 11, 2008 1:18 PM

Black Wonder Woman? Okay.

Beyonce as Wonder Woman? No.

Kimora Lee Simmons as Wonder Woman? Better.

Posted by: slip at November 11, 2008 1:21 PM

Does that mean model Megan Gale lost the gig? They probably figured out that she couldn't act.

Posted by: Loob at November 11, 2008 1:25 PM

Jebus Godtopus, if they want a woman of color aren't there any unknown women in Hollywood? Why does everything have to involve a "big" star or personality? Beyonce and Madonna need to stick to whatever the fuck they are supposed to be doing with their version of music, and stay off the big screen. Unless they want to do porn, in which case they both likely float someone's boat and I say 'go for it'.

I thought Lynda Carter rocked the shit out of Wonder Woman. We should either leave well enough alone, or find her younger clone.

Posted by: Cindy at November 11, 2008 1:27 PM

Kimora Lee Simmons as Wonder Woman? Better.

I.........I.............

Posted by: Jay at November 11, 2008 1:31 PM

I think Beyonce is gorgeous and has a really good singing voice, but she has dead freaky eyes and...ok have you guys heard of the whole Sasha Fierce thing? And how she's just become a complete idiot who likes to wear a Nazgul glove for shits and giggles?

Yeah it's making me kind of hate her, and I don't want to. I've never been a huge fan of her music (waaay too much ululating for me) but she's got the curves and can write some fun dance songs. But the whole Sasha Fierce thing just pisses me off. Now this? Woman, who do you think you are?

Posted by: figgy at November 11, 2008 1:34 PM

Oh, figgy, we can get back together now! Thank godtopus! I've missed you terribly. And the dog.

I think Cindy's right with the unknown woman idea. I think that's a much better way to go than the stunt-casting. That's just begging for trouble. I'm certain sure that there are plenty of good, unknown actresses, of all colors, in HWood just waiting for something like this. How about giving it to someone worthy?

Posted by: Anna von Beaverplatz at November 11, 2008 1:48 PM

Wonder Woman? Christina Hendricks.

Posted by: the bees knees at November 11, 2008 1:49 PM

If Christina Hendricks signs on as Wonder Woman, I know of one Wonder Woman fan who won't be wearing pants at the premiere.

I would knock her down in front of the pope and my grandmother and ravish her like a sailor on shore leave.

Posted by: Roaddog at November 11, 2008 1:59 PM

Points taken, but I wouldn't believe she's from Greece either.

Goddammit, where is the new Yvonne De Carlo???

Posted by: Jay at November 11, 2008 2:02 PM

Just so we are clear here:

Wonder Woman ain't about "girl power," brains, pseudosapphic-feminism or any of that post-hipster touchy feely crap.

It's about TITS and ASS....and invisible airplanes.

Let's get someone from the porn industry all up in this bitch.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at November 11, 2008 2:05 PM

Hate to be the party pooper, but giggling like schoolchildren about about the S&M implications of the lasso of truth is wrong, but the S&M wasn't an accidental implication, it was motherfucking intended (by the creator of Wonder Woman, at least). I stopped laughing when I found out as well.

Posted by: Che Grovera at November 11, 2008 2:16 PM

Not that I got anything against white women, but I'm tired of jerking off to them. I think it would do wonders for race relations if American had a sista to jerk off to.

Posted by: Pookie at November 11, 2008 2:18 PM

I'm sorry I meant America, I'm trying my best to stop from laughing at Kayanne's comment.

Posted by: Pookie at November 11, 2008 2:22 PM

BS: Wonder Woman ain't about "girl power," brains, pseudosapphic-feminism

She is, at least in the hands of the Feminist guy who created her

BS: It's about TITS and ASS....and invisible airplanes.

But this is definitely true now.

Posted by: cockroach at November 11, 2008 2:22 PM

No more true now than it was back then. To say that women's rights as expressed in the story and comic over the years has degraded is both incorrect and shortsighted given the history of the women's lib movement. Simply put, discussions of "female empowerment" are always fundamentally linked to the decision of women to take hold of their own sexuality and by proxy their ability to use sex as a form of power. It's a dichotomy for the ages. Yes women are powerful and independant, but it is through the manipulation of man's baser desires for their nekkid bodies that this power is exercised. Sexism and feminism are closer than most people realize.

Does the fact that Wonder Woman bonerizes me make her less of a Feminist heroine? Not at all, in fact, a powerful and capable woman that I am still turned on by is the epitome of feminism. I can appreciate her femininity as well as her ability to ass-kick without having to chose one over the other.

Incredibly reductionist? Yep, but it's what I remember of my discussions of Madonna (the pop "star") as a post-modern feminist hero.

Posted by: Roaddog at November 11, 2008 2:33 PM

*deep breath*

GINA TORRES! GINA TORRES! GINA TORRES!

OK? Good.

Gina Torres was mentioned YEARS ago when Joss Whedon still had the property. She can act. She's a badass. And she's fucking hot. And way way darker than Beyonce. Didn't we learn ANYTHING after the Halle Berry as Storm debacle?

Fuck Beyonce.

Posted by: Kat at November 11, 2008 2:47 PM

And way way darker than Beyonce.

What's that mean?

Posted by: Jay at November 11, 2008 2:51 PM

All I can think of is:

Bed, Bath & Beyonce

Posted by: bucdaddy at November 11, 2008 3:00 PM

Did you SEE Austin Powers 3? Beyonce has a need to giggle and highlight her hair through everything. She's like Mariah Carrey. She wants to make everything CUTE. Gina Torres knows where her dark place is, and that makes for a good Wonder Woman.

Posted by: Kat at November 11, 2008 3:01 PM

Maria Menounos. She's Greek. Hot. Works as an Actress.

Crisis averted.

Posted by: Beauregard at November 11, 2008 3:08 PM

Ohhhh, oh okay.

I was gonna say, yeah, Halle Berry did not look dark enough to play equatorial queen Storm...but what the hell's that got to do with a Mediterranean character?

HA! semantics.

Posted by: Jay at November 11, 2008 3:14 PM

"She's like Mariah Carrey."

She's like Mariah Carey, sans the incredible voice. Beyonce is a competent singer, just like she's a competent dancer and a competent actress. She is gorgeous, but she simply isn't a shining star, relatively speaking. Her success is incredible to me, in that sense.

Posted by: samantha t at November 11, 2008 3:30 PM

All I can think of is:

Bed, Bath & Beyonce

Oh, Godtopus, bucdaddy I just about died laughing. Now I'm gonna remember that every time she shows up somewhere.

AvB YAY! the dog missed you, too. Wouldn't stop whining all night about how mean I was. But I pledged on the DVD releases thread to never mention Whedon again, and to not break any more hearts this way.

Also, this whole thing just seems to be another ridiculous claim by Bed-Bath-and-Beyonce's recent fame whoring ways. She also said she wants to sing at Obama's inauguration. Blargh.

Posted by: figgy at November 11, 2008 4:56 PM

I wonder who would be billed-- Beyonce or Sasha Fierce? You think they both would? Two dressing rooms? Two scattered sets of on-set demands?

This could be gossip gold.

Posted by: artificialsweet at November 11, 2008 5:56 PM

Maria Menounos cannot act. Have you watched her on award shows and that terrible show "One Tree Hill"?

Gina Torres could work, but i'm too cynical to believe a studio would allow her to do it.

Paula Patton perhaps could pan out, but i'm not 100% convinced she can act. Her characters didn't do all that much in 'Deja Vu' or 'Hitch', not her fault but those trite scripts.

Get the fuck out of here Roaddog, let the pussy control all who seek it for nourishment. See that's the problem with you big thinkers, you guys want to lift the veil of off a bitch that simply wants to give up the ass freely. If a feminist don't want to take any dick then let her be, most feminist don't know how to work their money maker, ergo they spout off about a man only wanting the ass. Now if a woman want the pleasures of a man and if her mind is right then there should not be any problems with them getting a motel room. And she should not be treated as a harlot.

Posted by: Pookie at November 11, 2008 9:58 PM

Now I;m not a fan of Beyonce's but...she's had this Sasha Fierce thing for years now. Actually since Destiny's Child and has mentioned it multiple times in shit tons of interviews (I read a lot of ladies magazines...shut up) and all of a sudden everyone is like WTF?

Anywho, no no no, Miss Beyonce, you cannot act. Leave the movies to other competent people. Angelina Jolie is too obvious of a choice. Anne Hathaway has Droopy eyes (it had to be said and now you will notice it every time you see her). An unknown would be lovely and it would be cool as hell if they did a black lady. I know some real dark African-looking Greek people in Berkeley. Freaked me out at first because I assumed they were black and then they started speaking in their admittedly awesome language.
