Will the Weeping Angels Return to 'Doctor Who' Again? 'Blink' Director Returns for Series 9

Of all the Doctor Who creepy creatures, foes and villains, those Weeping Angels are the ones who really get to me. There’s something innately scary about certain statues anyway, like those paintings with eyes we imagine following us — please let me never be trapped in a museum. Daleks never bothered, and Cybermen; who cares? But those damned Angels popping right up in our faces freaking terrify me every time.

So, of course it brings me great pleasure to tell you that “Blink” director, Hettie MacDonald is returning for a new Series 9 episode. Will she bring back the angels (last seen in “The Angels Take Manhattan” and “The Time of the Doctor”)? That we don’t yet know, but let’s all put out the vibes for her to terrify us once again.

In other Series 9 news, guest stars include Game of Thrones’ Paul Kaye (Thoros of Myr) is in for a two-parter directed by Being Human’s Daniel O’Hara and written by Toby Whithouse.

Kay mentioned being prepped for his role required five hours in make-up, but said it was worth it, as Doctor Who and Top of the Pops were the shows that were unmissable when he was growing up, and now he’ll have appeared on both. Arsher Ali, Morven Christie, Neil Fingleton, Colin McFarlane and Steven Robertson will also guest-star in the two-part episode.

The fabulous Michelle Gomez confirmed she’ll return at some point (the Master never dies!).

Though Neil Gaiman has all intentions of writing for Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, he will not be contributing to Series 9. But hold back your disappointment, because as previously reported, this year will feature writer Catherine Tregenna (Torchwood, Law & Order: UK), the first female Doctor Who writer since 2008.

Finally, Moffat’s big declaration (for those of you who give a sh*t) about this season is: “I’ve figured out the cliffhanger to the penultimate episode of series 9. And it’s a whopper. Ohh, I don’t think you’ll see this coming!”

And in the slightest hint of Doctor Who/Hannibal crossover news, Wednesday, when asked if he had plans of guesting on Hannibal David Tennant told Digital Spy he’d “love to work with Bryan Fuller. But check out that little smirk he’s holding back after he replies. Methinks something’s in the works already…
