Whoopi Goldberg Insists 'The View' Panelists Are 'Grown-Ass Women,' Even As They Act Like Childish Brats

Putting aside all the rumors and the other drama that’s been surrounding the show, it’s been officially announced that Rosie O’Donnell will join The View. She and Whoopi Goldberg are the only confirmed panelists going forward, although there are rumors that Meghan McCain (daughter of Senator John McCain) may end up taking the conservative spot vacated by Sherri Sheperd.

Meanwhile, Whoopi Goldberg finally addressed all the bullshit that’s been surrounding the show since Shepherd and McCarthy were fired last week (though, both are attempting to frame it as their decision to leave). Goldberg essentially stated that she and the others are not little girls. They are “grown-ass women.”

via Jezebel:

“We don’t know who’s coming in,” said Whoopi, however, “We will do our best to bring you the view that Barbara Walters wanted you to have, which is women talking about issues. We are not little kids. We are grown-ass women.”

“I don’t argue with people - we have spirited discussions,” Whoopi went on to say. “I don’t fight with people - it’s not my way. Quit trying to make me into something I’m not. I’m not a little girl with cat claws. I’m not a cat. I’m a girl with a fist, okay?”

And how do these grown-ass women behave in public? By calling each other out, of course. Former The View panelist Elisabeth Hasselbeck fired the first shot, expressing her anger at Rosie O’Donnell’s return, and saying that it’s been in the works for months.

“I’ll go back to the reunion show for Barbara,” Hasselbeck said. “How odd is this: when you have the woman who insinuated that our own troops were terrorists in Iraq at the time, then left the show while still at the end of her contract, to have such ease the day of Barbara’s good-bye show was shocking to me. She walked around with a lot of control.”

“When I had the chance to talk to her, Rosie herself told me, on set, while we were miked up, that she produced the reunion show to have everybody together and it was her idea,” Hasselbeck continued. “Now, would you think that the woman who left the way that she did would be producing Barbara’s good-bye show? Here’s the shocker: it was actually her hello show.”

Former The View co-host Joy Behar then weighed in on CNN to Hassebleck’s remarks, via Mediatite:

Behar said it was “below the belt” for her to make that kind of “nasty” comment about O’Donnell. She called it a “hate-filled remark” but also laughingly dismissed it as nonsense because “everything’s fiction on Fox anyway.”

But then Rosie O’Donnell, who refuses to stay above the fray, even on the same week she’s being rehired, made several bitchy remarks about Hasselbeck’s in response to other Tweets. For instance, on Hasselbeck’s actual whereabouts at the reunion show:

And here’s a couple of other responses from O’Donnell to other folks on Twitter related to Hasselbeck:

In other words, future, present, and past co-hosts of The View are all living down to the very worst stereotypes, which is that women too often tear each other down instead of supporting each other. I’m not sure what the original mission statement Barbara Walter had in mind when she started The View, but I doubt it was to endeavor, one day, to have all The View panelists calling each other out in the media and on Twitter.

If I were Meghan McCain, I’d get the hell away from this show as quickly as possible.
