Paul. Hands down.

Between Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost duo has achieved "must see" status. I can't really say that about any of the other films. Too much goodwill there to pass it up.

Posted by: FordbiddenDonut at November 17, 2010 3:25 PM

Paul, because I can see Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and that is all needed. thankfully I you don't see Seth Rogan!

Posted by: BigTodd at November 17, 2010 3:26 PM

Paul. The Hopkins one is tempting, but he's been in some real stinkers lately. Then of course there's that lesbian thing in The Swan ... but no. I'm still going with Paul.

Posted by: Neodiogenes at November 17, 2010 3:27 PM

13 Thirteen. Cool imagery. Plus tickets are apparently only 50 cents.

Posted by: BigSuperasente at November 17, 2010 3:28 PM

Shit, still posting as BigSuperasente. Fucking "remember personal info" tab.

Posted by: superasente at November 17, 2010 3:30 PM

All of these posters are better than the last unbatchtacular batch we got last week.

Paul's is great, it captures the spirit of the movie (or, the trailer, anyway) pretty perfectly. But it isn't my favorite of these posters. That prestigious honor goes to The Mechanic.

What can I say, I love 60s era film.

Posted by: RobP at November 17, 2010 3:30 PM

Easy, Paul, and only Paul.

Posted by: dammitjanet at November 17, 2010 3:34 PM

Oh! And I got a chance to meet Emily Hagins at the Austin Comic Con. Didn't get a chance to go to the screening of My Sucky Teen Romance, but she seems pretty cool and she's only 18, by gum!

We should all be jealous.

Posted by: RobP at November 17, 2010 3:35 PM

Ugh. The one with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

Though I do want to see Black Swan, but certainly not for the poster.

Posted by: Julie at November 17, 2010 3:36 PM

Posted by: Sharif at November 17, 2010 3:36 PM

I'm with superasente- 13 thirteen and Paul. Paul mainly because I badly want to see the movie regardless of the poster, so my opinion is skewed. 13 just looks cool, despite the fact that I'm 100% certain I will not see it.

Is it just me, or do they just use the same stock Lecter-era picture of Hopkins for every poster he's in?

Posted by: logar at November 17, 2010 3:37 PM

Well, frankie & alice is out, because it is based on an "amazing true story". Horf.

The Rites has Anthony Hopkins but the poster looks like a straight-to-DVD hack job cover. Pass.

The Mechanic had me at The Statham and then pulled me further in with Ben Foster. I also like the big gun made of little guns. GUNS.

Paul is a big winner. Aliens, soda, long hair, and Simon Pegg.

Black Swan only gets a second glance because of Vincent Cassell. Other than that, pass based on the poster. It looks like Princess Blackfeather releasing her wraith on a pillow factory or something.

The next two make me want to throat punch a stranger. Obviously, Vince Vaughn and the Fatman are the reason for the anger in the second one, but I'm not sure why the pixel-looking poster makes me irate. Fire.

And the last one, (does it want me to call it thirteen thirteen? Was it written by Lainey's Thirteen and she called it 13? I know that 1 and 3 placed beside each other is thirteen, I don't need to see 13 and then the explanation of thirteen) looks boring and stupid and fat.

Posted by: Pinky McLadybits at November 17, 2010 3:39 PM

BENFOSTERBENFOSTERBENFOSTER! That's all it takes.

Posted by: ThunderSacTriumph at November 17, 2010 3:41 PM

I saw Ben Foster. That's what I want to see, Ben Foster.

So, my vote is for the movie with Ben Foster.

Posted by: Natalia at November 17, 2010 3:42 PM

Paul, but if the two actors weren't who they are, it wouldn't work. It's an ugly poster but I'll watch anything those 2 are in.

Based solely on imagery, I'd go with the Teen Romance.

And that Vince Vaughn & Fat Comedian are so 'shopped, they look like two Shreks. Why do they DO that to posters???

Posted by: nolalola504 at November 17, 2010 3:44 PM

Paul, then Black Swan, and The Mechanic. The rest...wait for the trailer.

Posted by: TylerDFC at November 17, 2010 3:46 PM

Black Swan wins my vote. I love the poster for Paul, but the mere mention of Seth Rogen disqualifies it.

Posted by: Scully at November 17, 2010 3:46 PM

13 and Paul.
Though when I saw 13, I immediately thought that it was a movie about Lainey Bobainey's assistant- aka Thirteen - and assumed that it involved Lainey killing Thirteen.
In other words, a documentary.

Posted by: Spender at November 17, 2010 3:46 PM

Paul and Ben Foster (I echo the 'little guns making a big gun equals awesome' sentiment) do it for me. I'm interested in seeing Black Swan, but only to see if she's just tripping or really undergoing a metamorphosis. Everything else can suck it. I desperately want to hold on to my love for Hopkins, but he's been in WAY too many shitty movies.

Posted by: Kaleena at November 17, 2010 3:47 PM

Paul, for sure, although the Mechanic is in second place.

I haven't seen that Black Swan poster, I've only seen the one of Portman's face with the red eyes.

And the Dilemma? The dilemma is how the studio is going to get people to see it, because that poster sucks, as does the movie, I'm sure.

Posted by: mswas at November 17, 2010 3:49 PM

Paul, but only cuz Pegg and Frost are there!

Posted by: nat at November 17, 2010 3:50 PM

Paul, Black Swan (it's kind of conventional but still a lovely image) and maybe Sucky Teen Romance.

Posted by: Joseph Finn at November 17, 2010 3:53 PM

None of these posters does that much for me. At least most of them are trying (not so in the case of The Dilemma). The Sucky Teen Romance made my eye linger the longest because of its difference, but then I saw those vampire fangs and lost interest. I do find the Black Swan somewhat visually compelling, but I think I'm biased by the fact that it's the one of these I'm most interested in seeing.

I understand y'all love Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, but that Paul poster is not particularly eye-catching.

Hasn't Anthony Hopkins retired from acting a couple times now, or am I misremembering that? I'm surprised to see him back again.

Posted by: DarthCorleone at November 17, 2010 3:55 PM

The posters have names on them, and the names go a very long way to determining what I am most likely to see. The pictures have very little to do with it.

Posted by: Yossarian at November 17, 2010 3:58 PM

The Mechanic or Paul for me.

/let's see if this posts.

Posted by: Fredo at November 17, 2010 4:02 PM

Mechanic based on the artwork and The Statham.

Paul because of Simon and Nick. Though, I'm no fan of the cheesy alien CGI.

Posted by: Rykker at November 17, 2010 4:03 PM

Had I heard nothing about Black Swan, I'd see it based on the international posters. Those things are GORGEOUS.

this one is ok. I think in the spirit of the post, I'd have to say Paul also. Though I do think the one for Frankie & Alice is lovely.

Posted by: Anna von Beav at November 17, 2010 4:05 PM

The Mechanic. The others are all crappy.

Posted by: zito at November 17, 2010 4:06 PM

Mechanic as the poster is intriguing and makes me want to see more.

Black Swan as I can't turn down a movie about ballet (I assume that's the topic) and I like Natalie Portman most of the time (Star Wars films excluded).

Posted by: prairiegirl at November 17, 2010 4:10 PM

Paul and The Mechanic.

The Mechanic poster makes me think it might star Steve McQueen.

I realise that Steve McQueen will not be in The Mechanic.

Because he's dead.

Posted by: Ballymena Bob at November 17, 2010 4:12 PM

Honestly, The Mechanic has the coolest poster. Then Black Swan, then that Geeky Teen Love movie or whatever.

That's just based on posters. On everything else, Black Swan is tops, Paul second (though I still have a really unfortunate feeling about that movie creeping into my gut)

Posted by: ChristianH at November 17, 2010 4:12 PM

Reading titles is also helpful.

Posted by: ChristianH at November 17, 2010 4:15 PM

I don't know which one I'd go and see but I can tell you which one I would definitely avoid based on the poser alone: The Dilemma.

Heck I'd even give My Sucky Romance a chance.

Posted by: John W at November 17, 2010 4:21 PM

Wow. I'm so flattered you guys. Everyone chanting my name...Oh. You're talking about the movie. Carry on.

I'd go see Paul too based only on Pegg/Frost. I would say The Rite until I noticed the uninspired tagline.

50 Cent's name almost killed 13 for me. Then I saw Rourke and my interest went up. Then I looked back at 50 Cent. Then I saw Statham. He could star with "Fitty", Kanye and Tori Spelling and still improve the movie by 1000%.

Posted by: Paultera at November 17, 2010 4:22 PM

The Mechanic's got a decent poster. And it's got Ben Foster.

Posted by: sailboat at November 17, 2010 4:25 PM

Holy Photoshop batman! As if the poster for The Dilemma wasn't scary enough by featuring Kevin James and Vince Vaughn, they have both been replaced by bizarro land wax sculptures that will invade your mind and suck out all of the inventiveness and intelligence with a big...sucking action thing. Whatever, I ran out of steam there.

But anyway, going down the list (and the fabulous thing is no very little or anything about most of these movies, except The Mechanic):

Frankie and Alice poster review - Oh look, Halle Barry is doing an IM AN ACTRESS movie this year. Pass, wait for video if even.

The Rites - Anthony still trying to make mileage off Hannibal after all these years eh? Oh sure, it's not a Hannibal movie, but you know you're thinking of him the second you see that poster. Pass, not telling me a story and Hopkins no longer gets an automatic option.

The Mechanic - Stupid poster, I don't want to ... Stratham stars? Hmm. I'll see this one at a mid day weekend show when "I'm already out anyway" to the Mrs. Frob. "It's not your kind of flick, but I was here buying some books and stuff anyway...might as well, you know?"

Paul - Pegg and Frost, when does it come out again? Hey honey...yeah these are those guys from Shawn of the Dead. You'll want to see this. No, I have no idea what it's about. What does it matter?

Black Swan - Portman, nice. Looks artsy though...I'll wait for video unless Mrs. Frob catches me ignoring it and says we need to go, in which case I'll be all enthusiastic. I'm so suave and stuff.

My Sucky Teen Romance - Oh lookie, it's going to likely make light hearted fun of computer geeks, con geeks, and generally a lot of other things I participate in/enjoy. Unless it's the highly rare and sought after Galaxy Quest feel, fuck you very much, no thanks.

The Dilemma - AHHH RUN FOR YOUR LIVES FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS RIGHT IN THE WORLD NOOOOOOO

13 - Oh hey, we're going to shoot people. Has Straham but he's an "and XXX" credit. Didn't Mickey Rourke already by three mortgages on his 15 minutes? Wait for video, watch in fast forward.

So to end this protracted answer: Paul.

Posted by: frobme at November 17, 2010 4:31 PM

Good lord, that should be "I know very little or anything...". Ugh. Cannot be unseen now. hangs head in shame

Posted by: frobme at November 17, 2010 4:32 PM

Based solely on the posters: The Mechanic it most caught my eye and felt original.

Based on names on the posters: The Mechanic and Paul. Jason Statham is fun and Ben Foster's chameleon ability is amazing. Pegg and Frost are hilarious. Seth Rogen - getting a little tired of him.

Thirteen's poster is intriguing, but it seems to hint that the movie is about Russian Roulette and that seems like a limited/boring concept. Yeah, yeah, Deerhunter, whatever.

Posted by: lubeg at November 17, 2010 4:34 PM

13, because of the visuals (and Rourke's name on anything basically earns my $10 right out of the gate.)

Mechanic, because... well, Statham, for the same reason as Rourke. The poster looks awful but I can still read his name on it.

Posted by: Markus at November 17, 2010 4:44 PM

I don't know anything about The Mechanic or 13, but I do know that The Statham makes me feel good in my special places. So, yeah, I'll pick those two.

Posted by: superEdna at November 17, 2010 4:58 PM

I'm happy to see all the Ben Foster love. That definately is what caught my eye in the poster. But more important, what the HELL is this this new Black Swan poster? Maybe I'm missing something but it just seems so cliche for such an intriguing movie, especially after the stunning debut poster with Portman in full make-up... and did everyone get a load of the old opera house style posters that were made? Because they're beautiful:
http://www.awardsdaily.com/2010/10/beautiful-new-black-swan-posters/

Also, shame on Vince Vaughn and Kevin James for that poster. Gross.

Posted by: valerie at November 17, 2010 5:00 PM

Paul. Seth Rogen's really lost some weight there.

Posted by: BWeaves at November 17, 2010 5:08 PM

Am I the only one who thinks the poster for Paul is horrendous? It looks like a stupid family film in the vein of Marmaduke or Meet Dave. Or is that the point?

The Mechanic, poster wise, is the best with The Rite a close second but I definitely have to give a shout-out to My Sucky Teen Romance which interests me without having any actors on the bill that I recognize by name.

This bunch of posters is also 10x better than the last bunch you put up, with the exception of My Dilemma, whose poster looks almost as bad as that movie will be.

Posted by: Littlejon2001 at November 17, 2010 5:11 PM

Actually, screw what I said. 13 looks cooler than The Rite.

Posted by: Littlejon2001 at November 17, 2010 5:13 PM

No Littlejon2001, you're not alone. I also think the Paul poster is terrible. I wonder if people are picking it because they have high expectations that the movie will be quality, rather than judging the quality of the actual poster on it's own merits.

Posted by: superasente at November 17, 2010 5:17 PM

Paul. Black Swan.

The rest can eat a dick, especially that laughable 8-bit vampire romcom one.

Posted by: Shane at November 17, 2010 5:29 PM

Paul

The Mechanic.

those two look decent enough to rake in some dough.

Posted by: LordNinja at November 17, 2010 5:34 PM

Cowboys & Aliens, obviously.

::still on the ass::

Posted by: schmerpes at November 17, 2010 5:44 PM

I really love Pegg and Frost (Spaced!) but that poster and the trailer for the flick are awful. I'm crossing my fingers for bad marketing, not bad flic.

The Rite got my attention --supernatural christian mythos horror, Hopkins--in like flynn!

Halle Berry's hairdo and the design element of the poster made me think late 60's early 70's period piece and thats a draw for me. amazing true story was a repellant though.

Black Swan is a beautiful poster of a movie by a sublime director, and it is a shame both are marred by Portman. But Aronofsky is an automatic for me, so i will deal.

Posted by: idleprimate at November 17, 2010 6:01 PM

Nothing including that poster would convince me to pay to see a Halle Berry movie.

Posted by: Candy at November 17, 2010 6:04 PM

The Paul poster is doing its best to drain all of the coolness from the whole project.

The Dilenema poster makes me hate movies and Hollywood and having eyes.

If I didn't know what to expect from the actors involved, only one of these posters would intrigue me into the theater: 13 Thirteen. (Is that the title? Or a subtitle?)

Posted by: The Mutt at November 17, 2010 6:07 PM

The Mechanic poster is my absolute favorite. That's some gorgeous graphic design there.

The one I'd never watch is The Dilemma. Both because of the fucking ANNOYING cast, and the poster just looks awkward as hell.

I want to see Paul, but based only on the poster, I'd say it looks stupid, childish, and the CGI alien looks quite terrible. Actually the alien makes me want to slap it. Plus it's just an ugly poster, Pegg and Foster and all.

The first poster is quite beautiful, but it helps that it's Halle Berry.

Posted by: figgy at November 17, 2010 6:34 PM

My sucky teen romance.

Posted by: NeoCleo at November 17, 2010 6:53 PM

Someone please spit on The Dilemma's Photoshop person's grave.

Posted by: schmerpes at November 17, 2010 7:36 PM

Paul, with a bullet. Obviously because it is a Simon Pegg/Nick Frost collaboration.
I would see The Mechanic or Thirteen based on actor-hotness. I would see the Teen Romance one because it seems geeky and created by a woman.

Posted by: Karen at November 17, 2010 8:20 PM

To me, it looks like Vince is contemplating murder.
I like that
But, The Mechanic did it for me. I like black and red.AND GUNS.

Posted by: DeckOfficer!! at November 17, 2010 8:22 PM

I'm 110% with Natalia regarding Ben Foster. That's what I want to see.

Though I will probably see most of these at some point or another.

Posted by: Eva at November 17, 2010 8:32 PM

The Mechanic has cool graphics. But I have already seen it so I'll pass.

Paul. It could be a poster of a dried, half eaten piece of toast for all I care. I will see it because it says "Nick" and "Simon" and that's all I need to know.

The rest are simply dreadful, uninspiring, and touting actors I wouldn't give a dime to if they were homeless on a street corner.

Posted by: IJ Reilly at November 17, 2010 8:33 PM

That My Sucky Teen Romance poster reminds me of the Douglas Coupland novel whose name I don't remember with Fisher Price/Lego-y people on the cover?

Anyone?

Posted by: MM at November 17, 2010 8:36 PM

THE MECHANIC! And I still don't want to see it.

Posted by: fishfarts111 at November 17, 2010 9:05 PM

microserfs

Posted by: idleprimate at November 17, 2010 9:10 PM

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Posted by: Lucas at November 17, 2010 9:17 PM

Paul, because, well, Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.

Black Swan because of the weird overlap of:

Mila Kunis (Friends with Benefits)

Natalie Portman (No Strings Attached, formerly known as Friends with Benefits)

And the Black Swan Mila Kunis/Natalie Portman sex scene. During the refractory period of thinking about that scene, I wonder if their pillow talk consisted of comparing script notes of their respective romantic comedies.

Posted by: LwoodPDowd at November 17, 2010 9:54 PM

THE MECHANIC for reasons stated above.

I'd rather see Evan Rachel Wood's 13 again instead of this 13.

Probably the only one I will actually see is BLACK SWAN, for reasons that aren't on the poster.

Posted by: Pat C. at November 17, 2010 11:57 PM

If I'm going to watch The Dilemma, I'm going to need that handgun and the bullet from 13.

Having to watch another few seconds of Vince Vaughn and Kevin James on screen would give me all manner of motivation for another round of Russian Roulette.

And, in an ironic twist: first one to find the bullet... wins.

Posted by: Wintermute at November 18, 2010 12:38 AM

Black Swan because there's dancing and I cannot resist. Paul because Pegg + Frost = Awesome. And Thirteen simply because I'm hoping it's a remake of 13 Tzameti.

Wait. I don't like remakes. But I'm powerless to resist Statham. What to do, what to do.

Posted by: calliope1975 at November 18, 2010 12:41 AM

The Mechanic because Statham is the fucking hottest bald man ever.

Posted by: courtney at November 18, 2010 12:55 AM

13 Thirteen IS a remake of 13 Tzameti. "Tzameti" is the Georgian word for thirteen, so it's no big deal that 13 Thirteen is on the poster.

Posted by: Ken at November 18, 2010 2:19 AM

13 or Statham.

Posted by: Sarah Barkai at November 18, 2010 5:28 AM

Can't do it. I cannot make this incredibly life altering decision based solely on the poster. Just can't not see Simon Pegg.

1.) Paul
2.) The Mechanic
3.) The Rites

....Possibly 13

The rest gag me with a spoon.

Posted by: IneptFake at November 18, 2010 3:26 PM

Oh. & forgot to say...

my favorite Ben Foster is from 30 Days of Night

followed closely by 3:10 to Yuma Ben Foster.

or maybe it's the other way around.

Posted by: IneptFake at November 18, 2010 3:30 PM

Ok I can understand why you would photoshop kevin james to near unrecognizability...But why make him so shiny?

Posted by: Blank at November 18, 2010 6:01 PM

The Mechanic.

Especially when you look closely at the detail of the smaller guns. Then you see the bazooka, the "old-painless" minigun, shotguns and .50 cal. rounds. to name a few.

Which turns that motherfucker up from a ten to an eleven.

And Paul looks like it's done by the guy that brought us sharktopus. Only not as cool looking as a half shark/half octopus. Lame.

Posted by: Some Guy at November 18, 2010 9:47 PM

Vince Vaugh and Kevin James...smells like OSCAR!

Posted by: james at November 20, 2010 11:48 PM

Paul. Just because of the names involved. Also how fake do Kevin James and Vince Vaughan look in that poster. James especially.

Posted by: Guy Incognitus at November 22, 2010 4:10 PM
