What Is It You're Supposed to Say When You Have to Convince Someone to Watch Something for Their Own Good?

Maybe some of you are familiar with Zach Galifianakis’ Between Two Ferns. Maybe some of you are not. If you’re not, don’t bother watching the below video — where a local reporter pulled a Galifianakis on Galifianakis. You won’t understand. You probably hated The Jerk, too. Let’s make a pact right now never to be friends.

If you are familiar with Between Two Ferns, this is just about the best thing ever in the whole wide world of always and now, in the past and the future and a separate past in another dimension. Even better is that it doesn’t appear that Galifanakis even picked up on what was going on until about one-third of the way through the interview.

I applaud you, local reporter man. If we meet in real life, I owe you one can of light beer.

See Rowles, I'm not so bad.

I'm not familiar with Between Two Ferns, but I have an answer to the title question posed: just watch Lawrence Of Arabia, dammit!

Posted by: DarthCorleone at October 21, 2010 6:03 PM

Gordon Keith, who works as part of the morning show on KTCK-AM in Dallas, is one of the funniest men on the planet. Granted, he wasn't at his best with this one (though he did an okay job) but if you really like to laugh, listen to The Dunham and Miller Show online and The Great Gordo will have you busting yer gut.

Posted by: Spender at October 21, 2010 6:06 PM

he wasn't at his best with this one

Beg to differ.
He nailed Galifianakis' Two Ferns prosody, especially in the beginning of the interview.

Posted by: Rykker at October 21, 2010 6:31 PM

Agreed, he got it just right. The questions are perfect.

Thanks for finding it Dustin.

Posted by: Mebe at October 21, 2010 6:58 PM

I have no idea who that guy is, but he was BRILLIANT!

Posted by: virenda at October 21, 2010 6:59 PM

Magnificent.

Posted by: TL at October 21, 2010 7:08 PM

Hee, that was pretty funny. Specially how confused he was.

But I confess I've only watched two of the Ferns video. The Jon Hamm one, which I've watched about 1500 times ("Is your middle name 'Honeybaked'?") and the Bruce Willis one that was linked here. Really, after the Hamm one, I figured none could even come close.

I couldn't tell if Zach thought it was funny or if he was kind of ticked off. Guys with beards always look so angry though that may just be the result of some mental scarring. Anyway, very funny.

Posted by: wonderbreadhead at October 21, 2010 7:13 PM

Mr. Galifinakis (how can you EVER be sure you're spelling his name right?) played along nicely, though I must agree that he appeared a little ticked off. Perhaps it's not as funny when you're on the other side of the interview, eh?

Posted by: KittyCat at October 21, 2010 7:33 PM

That was awesome. I was just introduced to "Between Two Ferns" the other day and have been meaning to watch more of them. OMG when Zach tried to make Michael Cera tickle him! I love seeing it turned on him... standing slow clap, in a good way!

Posted by: jen at October 21, 2010 7:49 PM

Gordon Keith is a local radio legend here in Dallas-he's so hilarious. This link is him talking about the interview and how Zach was about it. Pretty funny.(He starts talking about it at about the 3 minute mark)

DarthCorleone raised a salient and relevant point. Seriously, dude. Seriously.

Posted by: My Name Is for My Friends at October 21, 2010 8:29 PM

Dude, Gordon Keith is amazing and you didn't even mention his name at all in this post. Fail.

Posted by: Allen at October 21, 2010 8:44 PM

That was hilarious!

Posted by: John W at October 21, 2010 9:00 PM

That made me so happy. I find Between Two Ferns funny but it makes me cringe. Seeing it turned on him was FANTASTIC!

Posted by: SeaKat at October 21, 2010 9:35 PM

I liked "Fernwood Tonight" better.

Posted by: logan at October 21, 2010 10:13 PM

Wait--how many other pajibans live in Dallas? This is startling.

Posted by: Christopher at October 21, 2010 10:13 PM

Richardson, here. Gotta love Gordon Keith, he deserves to hit the big time.

Posted by: Allen at October 21, 2010 10:47 PM

You people really want to cringe in your seats you should be watching Ian Svenonius. Never has one asked such existential questions in such an awkward way to many of my teenage/college heroes.

Guys, I'm a little worried about what figgy will do when the Jon Hamm news dries up, as it must eventually. I mean, this is getting serious. Maybe an intervention is in order... Oh, I just thought of something: can you imagine if Jon Hamm visited her? The resulting explosion of untempered bliss would no doubt level Dallas. Scaaaaary.

I think Zach was in on it. He seems like a smart guy, and he never figures out that the EXACT same act he pulls on people is being pulled on him? If he didn't get it, then I have to believe he is such a Hollywood elitist that he cannot understand playful ribbing.

Plus, I think Zach is fairly intelligent, and if he were not informed, he'd figure it out.

Plus, I think that Zach is a good enough actor to play the part for comedic effect.

Posted by: Vince Noir at October 22, 2010 1:20 AM

Good stuff.

I don't think Zach was all in because he couldn't be sure this was actually a joke. The great thing about Between Two Ferns is the fact that both people know what's going on and it can be taken all over the place. Zach just seemed more confused than anything. Uncomfortable interviews work best on temperamental or tight-laced people, of which Zach is neither. If the guy would've given him a signal or a quick heads-up, this could've been pure gold as Zach would be given a chance to explore the other side of his famous bit.

Posted by: Kballs at October 22, 2010 7:59 AM

I think how annoyed he looks is what makes it so funny. He's like, this is my schtick, not yours. Too funny.

Posted by: David at October 22, 2010 9:26 AM

This was definitely great, and what makes Between Two Ferns amazing is that everyone knows it's a joke, like Kballs said. I agree this could have been even funnier if Zach were in on it, but it's still pretty radtacular.

Maybe I don't need to apologize for being from Texas nearly as much as I think I do?

Thanks for posting this article. I am extremely frustrated with struggling to find relevant and intelligent commentary on this subject. Everyone today goes to the terribly far extremes to either drive home their viewpoint that either 1) everybody else in the globe is wrong, orive home their viewpoint that either 1) everybody else in the globe is wrong, or two that e

Oh man, I laughed all the way through that. Gordon Keith does a great impression of Galifianakis' Two Ferns character. The moment where Galifianakis catches on is awesome.

Posted by: EricD at October 22, 2010 11:54 AM

I live in Dallas and have never heard of Gordon Keith. Gotta start listening to him now.

I think there are quite a few Dallas Pajibans, right? I've heard talks of the Inwood theater alot. Or maybe that was because the Inwood had midnight showings of the Human Centipede and I pretty much read everything that had to do with the Human Centipede on this website.

Don't judge me.

Posted by: exploranora at October 22, 2010 2:07 PM

I miss the days when Gordon Keith would ambush athletes in the locker room with questions like "Why are right arm"?

DFW Metroplex 'jibans represent!

I don't care if ZG was in on it or not, that was brilliant - and I desperately want Zach Galifianakis and David Sedaris to have a huge, fake, public blood feud - if only to see the face-off between lieutenants Amy Sedaris and Bradley Cooper....

Posted by: Edith at October 22, 2010 3:35 PM

awesome. thank you.

Uriah Creep: I may or may not have made an "EEEE" sound at the very thought of that.

....I might have a problem.

Do you people have a facebook or twitter fan page? I looked for for one on facebook or myspace but couldn't find it, I'd really like to become a fan!
