What If Famous Directors Directed the Super Bowl?

By Dustin Rowles | Posted Under Trade News | Comments (70)

This is actually a pretty fantastic video from Slate, showing you what it might look like if certain famous directors — Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch, Wes Anderson, Jean-Luc Godard, and Werner Herzog — directed the Super Bowl. And they kind of nailed it (particularly the Wes Anderson take).

Check it out.

They should have done a Shyamalan, it would turn out they were playing water polo all along.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at February 6, 2010 2:26 PM

Nice. Though, Tarantino doesn't put anime in every movie he does, but I still enjoyed the spirit of that part of the clip.

The David Lynch part makes me want to watch "Wild At Heart" again.

Was Kevin Smith just to easy a target?

Posted by: Jerce at February 6, 2010 3:50 PM

Jerce:

Sorry.
You are still a person with magnificent intelligence, a keen sense of humor, and (I assume) a terrific body.

Posted by: grammar bitch at February 6, 2010 3:57 PM

The Wes Anderson one was great! I'd probably watch that Super Bowl.

Posted by: grace b at February 6, 2010 4:11 PM

I knew that.

Goddamn clumsy fingers.

Posted by: Jerce at February 6, 2010 4:22 PM

I agree, Grace B! I've been running a pretty big crush on him lately anyway, and that section put me in the mood to get comfy with a beer and watch one of his movies. Any of them really, I'm not terribly particular.

They were all pretty on the money, though. Made my burgeoning inner football fan and my longtime inner movie geek very, very happy.

Posted by: ShinyKate at February 6, 2010 4:33 PM

I would watch the Wes Anderson version. The use of The Kinks alone would make it a must-see.

Posted by: ChristianH at February 6, 2010 6:31 PM

The Brett Ratner version would be wall-to-wall pyrotechnics as giant robots (with boobs!) play football.

Come to think of it, isn't that the intro sequence to the Fox Sports pregame shows?

Posted by: The Wanderer at February 6, 2010 6:39 PM

A Clint Eastwood version would be gritty, poignant and well crafted. While George Lucas would shoot it all blue screen and feature an annoying, ethnically inappropriate CGI mascot.

Mel Gibson: It's the Jews' fault when a ref makes a bad call.

Posted by: Yama at February 6, 2010 7:19 PM

That was fun, but I wish they had done a Michel Gondry version.

Posted by: Livience at February 6, 2010 10:08 PM

The Tarantino one was dumb, sorry.

Posted by: Jimlet at February 7, 2010 12:05 AM

Okay. No.

The Tarantino one used the clips from the anime version of Eye Shield 21, a manga I dearly loved and probably is the only manga about Foot Ball. That one was not from any actual foot ball footage and I'm pretty sure is an infringement of an intellectual property. And it was a great story about sports, god damn it!!

You people won't appreciate it because you can't get over the fact that Asian could do foot ball, while you can believe a fucking guy in silly costumes could fly or shoot spider webs. I hate this country sometimes. And, don't tell me to go back cuz I'm also a citizen here.

Posted by: yocean at February 7, 2010 12:39 AM

*shifts uncomfortably*
Someone really loves their anime, don't they?

Posted by: Ed at February 7, 2010 2:09 AM

Livience:
I think Michel Gondry's take on it would be something like this.

Posted by: Ed at February 7, 2010 2:12 AM

Hey, Yocean,
One, "football" is one word.
Two, copyright infringement has no play in parody, as that clearly was.
Three, Eye Shield 21 is largely considered a joke in America.

In other words, chill the fuck out and enjoy the comedic value of a really well done parody.

Your Mom, (or is it my mom?)I thought the exact same thing!

It’s not so very much the visual caliber that wows me, which is due to budget, but the way that the battles and scuffles are choreographed. Macross Frontier was a great deal more still in its camera locations and weighted a great deal on the machines separately instead of employing intriguing.

The topical creams and ointments can only treat, remedy or cure what is outside, or on top of, the nail - not the athletes foot fungus, toenail, fingernail fungus or foot fungus under the nail. The pills, such as Lamisil or Sporanox, do get inside the body; however there can be serious side effects and can wreak havoc on your entire system.

I think patients need to understand that if they want their solo/two-doctor group to be there in the future that they will have to accept an alternative payment model (i.e. cash pay). Some of the future changes will certainly be welcome, such as new technologies that make both patient’s and doctor’s work easier and more efficient, but there will also be less-desired changes of more governmental interference, red tape, and an increase of insurance companies’ efforts to collect as much money from the patient and give as little as possible to providers. By breaking this unhealthly addiction to insurance/government patients would find their doctor to be able to provide a much better quality of care. I hope it happens.

Mel Gibson is a clever guy and a first-rate actor he just has certain things to figure out.

There will probably at all times be another person doing anything specifically for the great shock worth of it. Lady Gaga stated she wouldn't wish to upset vegans and that she wasn't a joint of food.....fine what was the lady's idea?....what will we have now learned from the assertion this woman was trying to make? I'll go ahead and say this..zilch. All we're going to always remember is the "meat" garment. Ask ourselves the length of time the woman stays up nights dreaming up stunts to keep us talking about her.

I felt the following quote from the study summed things up rather nicely: “The increasing prevalence of chronic conditions and an aging population is driving a more holistic approach that contemplates the whole person and not one specific disease state or acute episode…”

I need to say, as much as I loved reading what you had to convey, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a fantastic grasp on the matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Maybe you should consider this from more than 1 perspective. Or perhaps you shouldn't generalise so very much. It's better if you think about what others may have to say rather than just going for the gut reaction to the subject. Think about adjusting your own thought process and giving other people who might read this the benefit of the doubt.

Posted by: Loida Altavilla at October 10, 2010 6:22 PM

I feel Lindsay needs to grow up and be true to herself. She use to be a cute little red head girl. Now, she is a pot head with many insecurities.

What I especially miss is a keyword like ‘extends’ for css classes. In big projects with several designers, or when the layout constantly updated, it’s often not simple to keep the complete overview of layout and style.

im sorry but what is the matter with all you people complaining about fillers, any and all new shows that have both anime and manga being made at the same time have to have fillers. you all know this fact but still choose to watch the shows, if you cant deal with a few fillers then stop watching the shows. Go watch old school animes like rurouni kenshin and all the other old ones..no fillers in them so you can quit your belly acking.

The most exciting thing about an upcoming Super Bowl is that it usually comes all the way down to the wire with the contenders. Simply about each year, we haven't any idea who's going to knock it out at the end and finish up with the ring. It's sometimes not who I might have thought in the end.
