In an embarrassment of riches, Sony and Paramount both have Agatha Christie biopics in the works.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony’s will be some manner of “I have no interest in being a traditional wife” movie, which is hopefully vastly less trite than this elevator pitch would suggest.

Sony is courting Alicia Vikander to play a proto-feminist Christie uninterested in a traditional wife role (instead she intersects with the likes of Sherlock Holmes writer Arthur Conan Doyle and Winston Churchill).

Paramount’s sounds far more interesting.

Atop Paramount’s wish list is Emma Stone to play the British literary sensation, with the story postulating what happened to Christie during the 11 days she went missing in 1926 (she died in 1976 at age 85).

Of course, we already know what happened when she went missing. She was hunting giant wasps with the Doctor and Donna Noble.

Now before we get too excited, we’ll first need greenlights from the Christie estate. And that might not be the easiest thing in the world. Murder on the Orient Express is coming this year and it took the estate seven years before granting a go-ahead to film it.
