I don’t know what it is about islands, but somehow, they always draw people back. And dammit, Lost keeps working its way back into my brain no matter how I try to forget it. In semi-related news, some nimrod news station tweeted a doctored Lost poster to ask what we think happened to Malaysia Airlines flight 370:

And now, back to your regularly scheduled Jurassic World news…

First up, these two fine (and I mean, fine) actors have been confirmed as cast:

What’s that you’re saying about behind closed doors, Idris? Everything’s sort of spinning and I can’t quite think straight.

Anyway, so yeah, Idris Elba and Omar Sy have signed on, along with New Girl’s Jake Johnson.

The cast were confirmed in an interview with director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed), in which he also discussed B.D. Wong’s return:

“I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back. They’re iconic. But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go. But there is a character from the first film who makes sense in our world. This hasn’t been announced yet, but BD Wong will be returning as Dr. Henry Wu. He had a much larger role in the original novel, he was the engineer of this breakthrough in de-extinction. He spent two decades living in Hammond’s shadow, underappreciated. We think there’s more to his story.”

I guess that means we won’t be seeing Jeff Goldblum’s hairy chest again (*sob*).

Trevorrow calls Chris Pratt’s character a classic hero who’ll “get you through the jungle,” and revealed Bryce Dallas Howard’s the “corporate, controlled” role—“Until the running and screaming starts.”

The director also revealed he’s shooting 35mm and 65mm film. “We’re also using an aspect ratio that hasn’t been seen theatrically in a very long time. The movie will be presented in 2 to 1…It allows us enough height to fit humans and dinosaurs into a single frame, without giving up that sense of scope.” (Does that mean we’ll feel closer to the dinosaurs Idris?)

Jurassic World also stars Vincent D’Onofrio and Irrfan Khan, and it hits theaters June 12, 2015.

Cindy Davis, (Twitter) thinks Jurassic island could do with a little Sawyer.

  • I'm just grateful that they somehow managed to avoid hiring LaBeouf-stake.

  • Luis

I didn't think I could open my heart again after being disappointed by two underwhelming sequels to the original, but all this is giving me the courage to hope again. To love again.

  • Dean Gorby

I'm a straight man so I have no horse in this race, but that quote from Idris is laughable. Did he just attend the "What Women Want to Hear 101" seminar? If any regular Joe said that, you would brush him off as a douche creep!

  • cox

    he makes it work.

  • Yes, yes he does. And it's totally lame. That's what you can manage when you combine intelligence and those kind of looks, I guess.

I was planning on letting the reviews decide whether or not I saw this...and once again Idris Elba shows up and makes me part with my money. Sigh...I'll go get in line now.

all i know is, Jake Johnson better kiss someone, and i couldn't care less whom in particular. No, actually, strike that, him and Chriss Pratt as a bickering couple would be AMAZING.
