Creepy Kids, Tsunamis and Child Kidnapping, Oh My!
Vinyan trailer / TK

vinyan-7.jpgTalk about your bizarre trailers… apparently, Vinyan is a movie about a couple that loses their child in the tsunami, and then sets out to track him down. But just as you start clamoring that this is a ripoff of HBO’s excellent “Tsunami: The Aftermath,” the wheels come off and it turns into a movie about child trafficking in Burma… only to shift gears again and become a trailer for some sort of creepy horror movie. Frankly, I don’t know what the fuck is going on. All I know is that it stars Rufus Sewell and Emmanuelle BĂ©art (yum and yummer), as well as Julie Dreyfus (Sofie Fatale in Kill Bill Volume 1, otherwise known as “The Good Kill Bill”), and it looks creepy as hell. Discuss. (Not entirely safe for work due to some f-bombs).

Why is it full of French people and obviously credited in French but then English with French subtitles? I'm so confused. Other than that, the presence of Emanuelle Beart guarantees a first night attendance from Mr. PaddyDog so I'll be there.

Oh, Rufus. Remember that time you were in Dark City and The Illusionist and John Adams? Yeah, good times.

I love Rufus Sewell. He's a fantastic actor that's so incredibly underused, and whenever he's in something "big" he's always just the bad guy. For shame!

I don't understand you retarded ass-barnacles who love Kill Bill Volume 1. You've got the same kind of crazy as Frank Miller. Hyper-stylized violence alone is not enough to keep me interested in a film.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 is all style, little content. Vol 2. is all content, little style. Together they are the perfect action/revenge flick. I loved Vol. 1 for its kinetic energy (and switch to anime), and I loved Vol. 2 for adding pathos while still being balls-to-the-wall badass.

Tarantino, I've been waiting for that boxed set since I saw the movies in theaters... I've got $40 just sitting here, going unspent, eyeing the special edition of "Game of Death."

Macafee articulated my feelings on KB:1&2 better and cheaper than I could have. I love it when that happens, because I am lazy.

I think I'll just watch the Rufe in Eleventh Hour. That trailer is ba-ad.

Tarantino, I've been waiting for that boxed set since I saw the movies in theaters...

Seriously, what the hell?? I have refused to buy them individually because I've been waiting for them to be edited into a single film, which I kept hearing was going to happen, and now I have neither!! Dammit!

I've never seen either of the Kill Bill movies.

Posted by: Sarina at September 15, 2008 6:27 PM

Honey, you know you can't shock me like that.

Posted by: Jay at September 15, 2008 6:53 PM

I'm not so sure I could shock you at all, Jay.

Posted by: Sarina at September 15, 2008 8:52 PM

Sarina... the queen of mean.. the woman who makes Elton John tremble with her scathing bitchiness... has not seen Kill Bill. Do you understand what it's about? REVENGE! Sweet Sweet Ninja Revenge! Drop some truth on her, Jay.

Sarina, I will not be one of those people who argues either that Tarantino is a genius or Tarantino is a hack.

What I will tell you is that Kill Bill and Grindhouse were the most fun I have had at the movies in a good long time. They're especially fun with a group and a few beverages. Of the alcoholic variety. Sweet, sweet ninja revenge, indeed.

Actually, right when Vol. 2 was coming out I was finishing up my latest music mix that I give to friends. I hadn't seen any trailers or anything and right before I went to see it that morning I finalized what music I was going to use, having decided on a southwestern/spaghetti western motif with scans from "Preacher" for the artwork. Then I went and saw it and saw that Quentin had made a spaghetti western and when I got home and watched a trailer I saw he'd used "The Trio" from "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" (one of the GREATEST pieces of music EVER) in it, just like me.

"Fuck", I thought at first, "she's gonna think it wasn't my idea!". My second thought was, "Fuck it, I'll mail him a copy too".

My friend did indeed think I'd stolen Quentin's idea, and I mailed a cd to A Band Apart for the hell of it, expecting no reply, which didn't come, but I thought I'd try to send a fellow mix tape geek a gift anyway.

I've never bought the dvd's either. I will wait for "The Whole Bloody Affair". Hey, it's only been four and a half years, who'd be impatient? I compromised and got someone to give me "Planet Terror" for Christmas, but no further money will be spent until the proper "Grindhouse" deluxe.

I'd certainly never promise that Sarah would enjoy it, but I'd certainly vote for giving The Bride a look in, and I definitely don't think there's just "a good one".

Oh, I know what the Kill Bill movies are about, and I know I would (or at least should) probably like them... and yet I am incredibly apathetic. I don't even know why. I just can't be bothered to watch them. I get that way about some movies (and A LOT of television shows).

Just read a review for the movie Vinyan. It looks awesome, can't wait to see it.

I just watched, for the 100th time, Mr. Sewell as Will Ladislaw in the 1994 Middlemarch. First saw it when I was 14 yrs. old and decided then and there that I was going to marry Rufus one day..lol!!! Since obviously that is not an option I've watched him in every single thing he has been in since(no kidding!). He is an amazing acting talent, so underused as so many of the great ones (especially the Brits) are. I'd watch Rufus just sitting there doing nothing before I'd pay to watch Brad, Ben, or any of the other american "stars". I can't wait to see this movie, despite the fact that it looks pretty disturbing. Looking forward to the next Rufus Sewell project as well (I personally would prefer an epic love story with Rufus as the romantic lead of course!!!).
