Update: Jay Leno Even Douchier Than Previously Believed

jay leno douche.jpg

We didn’t get a chance to post this yesterday (we were too busy getting out of there!) but during Jay Leno’s monologue on Tuesday night, he made a veiled but incredibly classless joke at Conan O’Brien’s (or, more precisely, his fans’) expense. During that monologue, Leno brought up the supposed Facebook page of Faisal Shahzad, the man who attempted to bomb Times Square. And among other things, Shahzad was purported to be a member of Team Coco. The implication, of course, is that Conan O’Brien fans are terrorists. Or — and this may be even more damning? — that Faisal Shahzad finds the humor of Conan O’Brien appealing. Gasp! (What I don’t get, really, is why no one is taking offense to the joke that suggested that Shahzad and Danny Bonaduce are friends?)

Whatever. The suggestion was classless because Jay Leno is a boob. That’s the take home message here, and I’d prefer it if you didn’t attempt to read anything else into it.

Here’s a video of crappy quality

That's funny, because what Leno did to Conan could be classified as a terrorist act. He used NBC's fear to wrench Conan's dream job away from him. All that was missing was a bomb vest strapped to his chin.

Jay Leno is a cock. He's a cock, he's a cock, he's a cock!

Posted by: Pinky McLadybits at May 6, 2010 9:46 AM

Jay Leno? Is he still on?

Posted by: admin at May 6, 2010 9:53 AM

If they made a movie called "I Spit on Jay Leno's Grave, AND Jay Leno," I bet you'd show the trailer.

Posted by: , at May 6, 2010 9:55 AM

That joke would have been so much funnier if Jay Leno's audience knew what Facebook was. Or understood how to get onto the internet.

Posted by: Jeremy Feist at May 6, 2010 10:08 AM

As a Letterman fan from the tender age of 8 years old, I highly doubt that he could be a bigger douche than I already thought. Then again I have been known to be wrong, from time to time.

Posted by: Mebe at May 6, 2010 10:18 AM

Well, I'd definitely show it.

Posted by: Ada at May 6, 2010 10:21 AM

Stay classy, ya twatbag!

Posted by: Aislinn at May 6, 2010 10:22 AM

He still makes Danny Bonaduce jokes?

And in this context, the term "jokes" is very VERY lenient.

Posted by: branded at May 6, 2010 10:29 AM

branded lol

"hey Jay, jokes, this word does not mean what you think it means."

Posted by: Mebe at May 6, 2010 10:33 AM

A classless joke? An attack? Something we should be offended by?

Please. I don't mind the frequent Conan updates because I enjoy Conan and pop culture in general, but do we really need to be aghast over a Jay Leno monologue joke? It's just a joke, and a lame one at that. If you want to point out pathetic Jay Leno material I suggest Twitter as a better forum.

This is supposed to be scathing reviews for bitchy people. We are supposed to be edgy and irreverent, hip and young and not constrained by outdated social mores. Are you really suggesting that Jay fucking Leno went too far with that joke? "Hey man, that's not cool Jay Leno. You can't make jokes implying that terrorists are Conan fans and that that reflects somehow negatively on Conan. That's really going too far."

Hell, I actually wish Jay would do more to take on Conan. I mean, if he is going to be totally unscrupulous behind the scenes and get the man fired the least he can do is address it publicly and own that shit. Give us some late night wars with teeth. His "aw shucks, yeah, let's move on" routine is what I find really offensive.

If you're going to dish it out, learn to take it. Rise above it. Just don't whine about someone else making a joke about one of your sacred cows.

Posted by: Yossarian at May 6, 2010 10:43 AM

Nah, we all just hate Jay and are getting our jabs in where we can. It's fun, I highly recommend it.

Posted by: Mebe at May 6, 2010 10:48 AM

Yossarian, I'm so with you. We should be more outraged that his jokes aren't funny.
Complaining about this "attack" is as pointless as complaining about David Letterman's "attack" on Sarah Palin's youngest daughter.
If Conan did it, we'd all find it HILARIOUS.

This is supposed to be scathing reviews for bitchy people.

Ah yes, Godtopus's Law. The lesser-threatening fourth cousin to Godwin's Law.

As an online discussion on Pajiba grows longer, the probability of a reference involving Scathing Reviews or Bitchy People approaches 1.

Taking shots at Jay is easy. It doesn't require thought, wit, or balls. You're better than this, Paj.

Posted by: gunnertec at May 6, 2010 11:11 AM

Perhaps, but as David Letterman said when being accused of doing the same thing,

"...But I just can't help myself!"

Fake outrage is the cornerstone of democracy. Take away our fake outrage and what are we left with? $200 sneakers and KFC double downs. I can't live like that!

Posted by: Dustin Rowles at May 6, 2010 11:26 AM

Oh, oh you know, it is so fashionable to take a shot at Jay Leno. The fact is the man's out there every bloody night, with fresh material, and he's charming...

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at May 6, 2010 11:30 AM

ZOMG, Dustin, you are on FIAH! Between this, the I Spit On Your Grave post, the "quit bitchin' about our ads"....

Way to take charge, man!

Posted by: MM at May 6, 2010 11:31 AM

Fucking hell, another schoolmarm site cop rant.

Posted by: sansho1 at May 6, 2010 12:59 PM

I dunno, I read it as self-depricating; like, "Even terrorists think Jay is an asshole".

Is a clip of Leno anything but?

Posted by: DoctorControversy at May 6, 2010 4:27 PM

Reach for the stars, Jay. Some day you'll make it to the top, and then you can dump on everyone whose better than you that didn't make it.

Posted by: Leftylad at May 6, 2010 4:54 PM

I love Letterman and Conan so I endorse any attack against Jay Leno. I don't think Jay went too far, he's just lame and his little dig isn't very funny.

I also have to add that I love you, branded. Every hundred or so comments that I read from you and chuckle to myself about I'll make sure that I throw a compliment in your general direction because you crack me up.

Posted by: becks at May 6, 2010 5:29 PM

If someone made a movie "I spit on Jay Leno's grave and Jay Leno"- I would camp out overnight to buy 3D tickets, and I would pray that Ray J and Kim Kardasian were cast in the movie and that "spit" was a euphemism for urine.

I wasn't going to comment since everyone else here was doing a fine jib-a-jab job of calling this deucebag out, and frankly I have been reserving my "this moron should be canned" energy for that mentally deficient harpy, Elizabeth Hasselbeck, but then I saw someone saying "have a little fun". so yea I decided to play.

BSlim great reference there.

What amazes me is that there was anyone watching this ridiculously bland show who was young enough to stay awake that late and/or not too senile to even remember what he said.
