I don't care what Dustin says; by gum, I have it on good authority that Johnny Depp's next film will be Dark Shadows. The interwebs (more than one site) told me, therefore it must be so. So D, you just stop with your Negative Nellie stuff and let me revel in my daydreams of pretty, pretty Johnny and his funny, throaty faux-Euro accent. I see a high collar and smoke and better fake teeth than even True Blood can offer. I see (heck, I can practically guarantee) Helena Bonham Carter's porcelain neck being proffered in vain (vein) while Johnny only has eyes for some nubile innocent. I've got this whole thing planned out in my mind, I tell you. After all, this has been a rumor for no less than...a long, long time.

I do hope Tim Burton camps this thing to the moon. Dark Shadows was an eerie soap opera that ran from 1966 - 1971 and featured a scary but romanticized vampire, Barnabus Collins (Jonathan Frid), in search of the love he lost when he was still human. After accidentally being freed from his self-imposed coffin prison, Barnabas returns to his family estate, having heard that his beloved's spirit still haunts the home. Meanwhile, Collins causes the usual soap opera havoc between some of the ladies and does everything he can to not be discovered as the monster that he is. I saw a good chunk of the original show at some point, and like Johnny (who has wanted to play Barnabus his whole life), I was completely mesmerized.

While Depp's name has been attached to innumerable future projects, the studio (Warner Brothers) expects shooting to start in April, 2011.
