The Curious Case of Why Isn’t It December 25 Yet?

Little Old Brad Pitt is F’ing Creepy! / Seth Freilich

Trade News | September 29, 2008 | Comments (31)

My tribe of people have lots of traditions. One of the best is going to the movies on Christmas Day. There’s usually something good to see, though we’ll go even if there’s not.

Will there be a good flick for us this year?

Well there’s just this little David Fincher, Bradd Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton thing, based on a crazy F. Scott Fitzgerald story.

Yes, please.

Hellz to the yeah! This is one of my favorite short stories, and based strictly on the presences of Tilda and Cate, I am THERE. Yay!

Holy cow that looks great.

Maybe.

I'm plumb out of snark. I'm really looking forward to this. Pitt haters can chew a goat scrotum.

The trailer makes me think the movie will take the concept of the Fitzgerald story (Scottie and I are on last name basis now) and nothing more. I've ready the story, but I'm more enthusiastic about the movie.

I'm a sucker for love stories where it takes the characters years and years to finally make out. Add "period piece" to that and I can call myself a happy woman.

Can't wait!

I wondered how they would make this story fit a full length movie. A love story certainly helps, but I'm kind of sad to see they took out the confused parents. Half the humor of the story comes from the adapting family.

Posted by: kelsy at September 29, 2008 3:29 PM

Sofia, that is our story.
It'll take us years to organize the first PajiCon what with all the lewd behavior we'll have to clear with gov't officials. I'd hate to see the forms to fill out for the Taco Dip Scrabble Sex Olympic Sized Hot Tub. But it'll all be worth it.
The period piece will not be an issue, I'll be in a pinstripe suit and spats anyways.

I'll dress up as a flapper girl.

Despite Fitzgerald's lovely and mesmerizing language, I hated The Great Gatsby, but loved Benjamin Button. Now I have this AND seeing the Nutcracker live to look forward to in December!

Posted by: Lady Whiskers at September 29, 2008 3:46 PM

Screw this movie.

I'm seeing The Time Traveler's Wife on Christmas instead.

It looks great and I'm super-excited, but fuck, does anyone else feel like they just watched the movie? Fucking trailers...

I liked that book so much that I just have no desire to see the movie. I'm indifferent to the cast and just...ehh, why risk having a bad time?

But Seth, the chosen people hardly own that tradition! Christmas movies are the perfect escape from when the day's gone all boring and you need an escape from your family. Got to see the restored "A Hard Day's Night" one year. Merry indeed. I was really pissed that in 1997 it was on a Friday and the restored "Vertigo" was suddenly gone, so I saw "First Contact" instead. Whaddaya gonna do, huh?

Me too Jay, and yet I know that I'll still rent it out of morbid curiousity. No matter how certain I am that they will fuck up the Time Traveller adaptation, the idea of seeing Henry and Clare come to life is just too intriguing.

Posted by: Julie at September 29, 2008 4:27 PM

We'll be doing the Charleston all night.

Posted by: Optimus Rhyme at September 29, 2008 4:38 PM

My worst Christmas Day Movie Showing was Stepmom.
Ugh.
Some cousins were in town so my brother and I had no say in the matter. Damn Julia Roberts. Ruining my life.

No lie, looking at that picture had me thinking of a McCain/Cheney love child. *shudder*

Oh my Godtopus, you're SO right!!!

Posted by: Sofía at September 29, 2008 5:11 PM

Thank God for Fight Club making it okay for guys to like Brad Pitt.

Posted by: Lucas at September 29, 2008 5:19 PM

Holy shit, you are on the money. Fuck! What if Brad Pitt actually aged just like that, and we all had to explain to our grandkids that he was a stunner in his youth. They'd all be totally disgusted.

Posted by: Cara at September 29, 2008 5:23 PM

I'm a little unsure about the TTW movie, but it looks like the production company has moved it back to FALL 2009 so it doesn't open at the same time as Benjamin Button. This makes me a touch salty.
(I'm not expecting to love Time Traveler's Wife, but I really want to see it.)

This could be sextastic or it could be... no, what am I saying, it will be sextastic.

Wait - I'm confused. I could've sworn this flick was based on the book The Confessions of Max Tivoli. But it's an F. Scott Fitzgerald short story?

Posted by: amanda at September 30, 2008 5:45 AM

I could've sworn this flick was based on the book The Confessions of Max Tivoli.

That's exactly what I thought when I first the trailer, but yeah it's an earlier version of the same kind of story.

Posted by: Jay at September 30, 2008 7:23 AM

Just adding a little comment-it feels like I've been waiting ages for this to come out. It's like waiting for Tom Cruise, or Clay Aiken to come out. Just hurry the hell up already.

Posted by: bakers_dozen at September 30, 2008 9:38 AM

How about an EFFING title please? I'm sorry to say, my Fitzgerald knowledge goes about as far (and definitely no farther) that the Great Gatsby, so I can't exactly tell what the hell story this is from the seriously demented picture of that freaky little person . The trailer has already been nixed I'm confused... My birthday is on Christmas though, so if there's a cool, twisted movie to see, then BY GOD(topus) SOMEBODY TELL ME WHAT IT IS!!!!

Posted by: Sleeve at September 30, 2008 9:39 AM

Oh! You're right, it's not there. It's called "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button".

Posted by: Jay at September 30, 2008 9:52 AM

Danka Schoen, Jay. I'm all about a movie with a vertically challenged cross between David Letterman and Paul Newman(RIP). Awesome picture. If it was HQ, it'd be my desktop background. I wonder if I could get my toilet paper printed with that image on every square?

Posted by: Sleeve at September 30, 2008 10:26 AM

I regularly allow my English classes to convert short stories to scrip, to movies. Could you send me your process so that I may add new ideas? Thank you in advance.
