I give you the God of Thunder:

I admit, I was anxious about this one at first. I didn’t know if Hemsworth would have the look. I was worried about the costume design. And you know what?

We’re cool, Kenneth Branagh. Sure, it’s a small glimpse, but I dig it. Now show me the hammer.

If everything is really stylized, it might work... If they try to put him in the real world, it's going to turn into a fish-out-of-water comedy in .3 seconds.

:fingers crossed:

I dig it, man. Do I even need to say that he's clearly the cooler Hemsworth brother?

Posted by: Charlie Dia at April 30, 2010 10:57 AM

The hammer is his penis

Posted by: dammitjanet at April 30, 2010 11:01 AM

I wondered how long it would take for someone to grab that joke. Frankly, I'm surprised that it took four posts.

Posted by: TK at April 30, 2010 11:03 AM

A little "Thunderstrike" for my tastes, but it ain't bad.

Posted by: Tracer Bullet at April 30, 2010 11:14 AM

Has anyone else considered the probability that The Avengers will suck, given the wide talent gap between the main players? RDJ is most likely able to eat Hemsworth and Evans for breakfast and still have room for a smoothie after.

I'm heartbroken that he's not in a furry loincloth.

Posted by: figgy at April 30, 2010 11:23 AM

Is this Thor as in Adventures in Babysitting, Thor?

Posted by: Whorish Mouth at April 30, 2010 11:26 AM

Wasn't that Vincent D'Onofrio in Adventures in Babysitting?

Posted by: dammitjanet at April 30, 2010 11:29 AM

I'm trying not to chug haterade, here, but I just don't get him. Am I the only one who thinks Chris Helmsworth is like the white Channing Tatum?

Posted by: Marra at April 30, 2010 11:30 AM

and, Glad I could meet your expectations, TK!!!

Posted by: dammitjanet at April 30, 2010 11:31 AM

Speaking of the Hammer, I saw Iron Man 2 tonight... yeaaaaahh...

Posted by: Chugga at April 30, 2010 11:31 AM

I call bullshit. EVERYbody knows Gene Simmons is the lord of the wasteland, and he commands you to kneel.

Posted by: , at April 30, 2010 11:31 AM

I assume, then, that Channing Tatum is the potato-colored Channing Tatum?

Posted by: Tracer Bullet at April 30, 2010 11:43 AM

I just meant that even though he's super bland and forgettable, Channing Tatum has a mumbly wigga schtick to fall back on. Although now that you mention it, Tatum does look like a potato.

Posted by: Marra at April 30, 2010 11:47 AM

Wasn't that Vincent D'Onofrio in Adventures in Babysitting?

Yep, that was him as Dawson/Thor, the same year he was Pvt. Pyle. Krazy!

Hey! Hey! The New York Times has their Human Centipede review up. Who's with me?

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at April 30, 2010 12:11 PM

Fuck...I wanted to hate this...but he does look pretty. It actually also gives me hope for the Captain America suit.

Posted by: DeistBrawler at April 30, 2010 12:53 PM

Think he is gonna have the winged helmet to with it?

Posted by: Ken Hart at April 30, 2010 1:17 PM

Until the cast Aleksandr Skarsgaard I am incapable of giving a fuck

Posted by: Nadine at April 30, 2010 2:20 PM

Hey, it's Jeremy Shockey!

Posted by: Recondite at April 30, 2010 4:32 PM

Recondite, you just killed this movie...

Well, at the very least, this shot hasn't done anything to make me say "no". We shall see, Mr. Branagh...

Posted by: D-Day at April 30, 2010 4:46 PM

I’m so stoked about “Thor,” I dream of it being a failure of epic proportions.

Posted by: Pookie at April 30, 2010 5:39 PM

They lost me when Kevin McKidd wasn't cast as Thor. I get a "Tiny Toons" vibe from that pic.

Posted by: ALR at April 30, 2010 7:16 PM

Still not ASkars. Still not caring.

Posted by: LizEg at April 30, 2010 8:06 PM

I don't like the beard. Thumbs down.

RDJ is most likely able to eat Hemsworth and Evans for breakfast and still have room for a smoothie after.

hahaha. the smoothie part killed me. But yeah, i'm scared for avengers too.

but you're forgetting bout Ed Norton. Banner shud keep Stark in check. He did get his ass whooped dat time in the animated feature.

i still dun get Evans as the Cap though. shud've gotten a real actor n buff him up ala 300 and then he can lead the avengers and RDJ.

saw ironman 2 n god! Agent Romanov sucks monkey ass. can't get a russian in this day n age?

Posted by: haplo at April 30, 2010 9:22 PM

I wonder if they'll play off the fact that RDJ is that much better of an actor than Thor/Cap. You could kinda play it off that Thunderthighs and the Boy Scout are fish out of water in the modern age; so you have Stark and Hawkeye (Renner?) as the badass cool cats and Hemsworth and Evans on a different track.

I'm more concerned about the villain in any Avengers movie. Yeah, it'd be pretty awesome to have the Hulk going mental on everyone, but there's usually someone pulling the strings. Braniac? Loki? Mandarin? Red Skull again? The Russians (think Winter Soldier)?

It's sad that Marvel effectively killed Dr. Doom, he's the best-fit villain to go up against these guys. Maybe they could re-cast him (John Hamm? Need help here.) and have him kill the Fantastic Four in the first 10 minutes.

Posted by: D-Day at April 30, 2010 10:22 PM

...and have him kill the Fantastic Four in the first 10 minutes.

i was reading quietly n when got to dat line i just burst out laughing.

No love for F4, huh? even if it was re-cast? U think ppl wud have reacted differently if it was anyone else other than Jessica-i cant act to save my life-Alba?

i kinda like...McMahon. i remember reading on tis site a long time ago bout dr. doom's portrayal.

Why is Doom a smarmy fuck? but i liked it.

I'm more concerned about the villain in any Avengers movie.

Wait. i thought everyone agreed that hulk is the villain.

Dat is the kind of superhero mash-up movie i want to see. hulk going to town wit the rest of avengers. Minus the aliens of coz. Nnnnn the panther dude.

Posted by: haplo at April 30, 2010 11:23 PM

What do you mean "show you the hammer"? Oh, right, Iron Man 2 isn't out in the US yet.

CRYPTIC HINT

Posted by: James at May 1, 2010 4:05 AM

My part of the movie will be tentatively titled Waiting for Mjolnir. It had better not end up looking like something you can pick up for $20 at Home Despot.

Posted by: The Wanderer at May 1, 2010 4:25 AM

Still optimistic.
And , FTW!
