TK first brought Robert Redford’s Lincoln Assassination picture, The Conspirator, to our attention last August. As he wrote then, the film itself is expected to be much more about the plot to assassinate Lincoln than it is about the president himself. The focus, moreoever, will be on Mary Surrat, the lone female co-conspirator in the plot. At the time, the only cast member attached was James McAvoy, who is set to play Frederick Aiken, who was Surrat’s idealistic young lawyer (and, my guess, the only guy who would provide her legal services). Surrat, who was the first woman to be executed in the United States, will be played by Robin Wright Penn.

Beyond the two main principals, however, it’s something of an odd cast, given that it’s a historical genre. Evan Rachel Wood will play Surrat’s sister, Alexis Bledel will play Catherine Morgan, and Justin Long — who doesn’t belong in dramas of any nature — is also in the movie, along with Kevin Kline (who doesn’t make nearly enough movies) and the always awesome Tom Wilkinson?

As for John Wilkes Booth — who seems to be something of an afterthought in a movie about the assassination of Lincoln — as reported by The Playlist and confirmed now by Firstshowing, he will be played by the up-and-comer Toby Kebbel, previously of RocknRolla fame. It’s a busy time for Kebbell, who is also slated to star in Prince of Persia and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, And not for nothing, he does have a certain sinister Wilkes Booth look about him.

Mostly, I’m just happy to report about a film that not a sequel, a remake, or something completely frogballs retarded.

And, courtesy of The Playlist, here’s a couple of pretty pictures:

and Justin Long.

oooof, tough break Mr. Redford, no way I'm watching your crappy film. I mean, if YOU have no respect for it, why should I?

Oh great. When I watched RocknRolla I had to deal with the fact that I wanted to jump the emaciated yet wildly magnetic drug addict, but I've been to college so that's sort of a "been there, done that" thing. Now you're telling me I'm going to have to deal with having inappropriate thoughts about John Wilkes Booth?

I can't see this movie. Damn you, Kebbell!

SIC SEMPER MYPANTICUS!!!!

So I'm looking at the list: Kevin Kline, Tom Wilkinson, James McEvoy. Okay, fairly talented stable. Then, Alexis Bledel? Huh?

AWESOME choice, Redford. Awesome.

You have made up for the boredom of Lions For Lambs.

So a film about the assassination of President Lincoln that doesn't focus on John Wilkes Booth but on the first woman executed in the United States? So it's not a film about the assassination of President Lincoln at all, then, is it?

I'll just listen to the Assassins soundtrack (Original Broadway Cast, not Original Cast Recording, so I may chuckle at Doogie Howser becoming Lee Harvey Oswald and killing JFK) instead.

PaddyDog, what is this nonsense you're spouting? Alexis Bledel is incredibly talented! Didn't you know that she's in the Guinness book of World Records for the most words uttered in a minute? Have you no respect for the noble sport of SpeedSpeaking? For shame.

In cross-examination debate, speaking quickly was referred to as spreading. I would be on board for Alexis Bledel spreading. She's like the Robin Tunney Muppet Baby.

Hey I loved Gilmore Girls, but Lauren Graham was the one who could pull off speed-speaking and still come across as real. Bledel stumbled and mumbled a lot and always looked too much as if she were trying too hard to keep up.

I agree Paddy.

Okay, so I had no idea who the dude in the header picture was when I touched the link to open this page on my iPhone. As the page was loading all I could see inthe address bar past trade news was "toby-ke" and for some reason I thought it was going to load and say "toby-keith". Imagine my relief when I figured out it was "toby-kebbell" and he was the dude in the picture, not someone else involved in the movie.

Shut up. I'm working in a dumpy redneck town today.

I'm sorry, but Robert Redford has made THE most boring films I've ever seen. "The Natural" Snore. "The Milagro Beanfield War" Snore. tidihhs zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

What was I talking about? Oh, yeah. He's actually going to make a presidential assasination look boring.

I think it's time for a movie about the woman with two vaginas.

The whole conspiracy is so fascinating. Homegrown terrorists attempting to overthrow the government through a series of assassinations and succeeding in killing the POTUS. I just hope it is more Glory then The Patriot.

BWeaves,

What's this woman with two vaginas? Is that an actual story? I'm frightened... and intrigued.

Posted by: MM at November 5, 2009 4:06 PM

So, how quickly does the porn industry try to get their claws into TwoVaginaLady?

Apparently she's on the Tyra show (who knew that was still on?) "The doctor in England said pregnancy wise, it should be okay…if I do get pregnant it should push the other uterus over to one side and keep it out of the way. Me and my partner would need to plan on using condoms just in case I got pregnant in the other one,"

*Speechless*

John Wilkes Booth was widely described as the most handsome man in the country at the time. One look at Kebbel and I doubt he could be considered the same. JWB was extremely athletic due to his stage combat training and life on a farm as a youngster. Kebbel looks a bit too emaciated. He needs to put on some weight and have a few chemical peels in order to truly be of JWB caliber.
