Through the Magic of Computers, You, Too, Can Have Perfect Sideboob

As you all know, because you spend your spare time reading contract riders, Jessica Alba won’t do nude scenes. She’s above that sort of tawdriness, though unfortunately, not above doing a movie like Good Luck, Chuck, or as we in the Rowles’ household like to call it, Go Fuck Yourself, Dane Cook. Anyway, Robert Rodriguez is the kind of guy who, when he decides to make a Mexsplotation film, he wants to go all out. And by all out, I mean: Sideboob. But Alba was like, “No way. I have my principles! If I show sideboob, they’ll never let me play the live-action version of Jessica Rabbit in the eventual remake of Roger Rabbit.

So … through the magic of computers, Jessica Alba got to have her cake and show her boobs, too. To the left here is what Jessica Alba was actually wearing during a scene in Machete. And to the right is what the viewer at home saw.

Alba stated, “‘I come from a very Catholic family so it wasn’t seen as a good thing to flaunt yourself like that. I can handle being sexy with clothes on but not with them off.” But, what would your Catholic family say about computer simulated nudity? Seriously: If the audience doesn’t know the difference, then what’s the point?

she also got much skinnier in the jazzed up there version on the right. grr.

Posted by: Pea at October 20, 2010 11:50 AM

They trimmed her tummy too.

Posted by: Natalie at October 20, 2010 11:51 AM

I think the original photo is hotter too.

Posted by: DeistBrawler at October 20, 2010 11:52 AM

Look how sculpted the naked tit is in that pic.

Err..Didn't she play a stripper and do some pole dancing in Sin City? I must be thinking of someone else because that would surely be FLAUNTING yourself.

Ah, Adobe Photoshop. The cause of, and solution to, all the world's problems.

Honestly, though, other than the genre, there's no reason for the simulated nudity. She looks amazing with her underwear on, and it titillates in exactly the same way.

I wrote a blog post several years ago when she made Sin City and refused to do nudity, in spite of the fact that her character was all sorts of nude in the comic books, and that two other actresses (one of whom is the incredibly talented and well-respected Carla Gugino) also did nudity in the film. I entitled that post, The Seriously Serious Jessica Alba. I won't link to it, because it's on gorram Myspace, but I think it still probably holds up. And it was written with only 50% lamenting the fact that I just wanted more boobies.

I have no problem with any actress not wanting to be nude on film, that's their choice and it really doesn't make a movie better (just makes certain scenes better, hyuk!)... But when you're whole argument is, "I don't want to be seen only as a sex object," but every role (seriously, every role) you take is basically a sex object, including the majority of your modeling work, you just sound like an idiot and a hypocrite.

I've thought about this way too much...

Jessica Alba's purpose in life is to remind us how wonderful Eva Mendes is.

Posted by: peanut at October 20, 2010 12:01 PM

Word, Peanut.

Posted by: Dustin Rowles at October 20, 2010 12:03 PM

Except Eva Mendes doesn't hold up to Eva Longoria...

Posted by: Rykker at October 20, 2010 12:17 PM

I'll have to say that there is just something I don't like about Mendes. I'd much rather have Alba despite the hypocrisy.

I just have one question: Where can I get that software?

Posted by: John W at October 20, 2010 12:48 PM

Isn't this story a month old? I wonder why it's making the rounds again.

Posted by: Matt at October 20, 2010 12:55 PM

Me: Jessica, it's not like we haven't seen it all before. Besides, I heard you can get soul cancer if you don't show your boobs to at least 1,000,000 people before the age of 40.

Jessica: Where did you hear that?

Me: Where did I hear that? Well, of course, from the, American, uh, Science, erm, Syn . . . dicate.

Jessica: Kballs, that spells A-S-S.

Me: Goddamnit.

Posted by: Kballs at October 20, 2010 1:35 PM

So why in the hell didn't they make the boob look real?

Posted by: Cindy at October 20, 2010 1:50 PM

Sideboob? Where? Oh, that. I was a little distracted by whatever's happening with her back. I mean, is it bad resolution, is she too thin, is it a shadow...? It looks like she has some sort of arrow in her back and it's freaking me out.

Also, she annoys me to no end. First she complained she was "too curvy" for the bikini scenes (meaning every scene and poster) for that ocean movie, Deep Blue or something, and wanted to lose weight. Then she lost the weight but still had "too much cellulite and wide hips" after her pregnancy, and now this. Ugh, why? Seriously, you're the only one hating your body, Jessica.

Posted by: Holly at October 20, 2010 2:32 PM

That's what's been bothering me.

With all the time I've spent studying that still, I could not for the life of me (for the life of me!) figure out what was wrong with it. Why it bothered me so much that I had to keep going back to it. Inspecting it. Pouring over its minutiae.

Now I know what was wrong.

Everything.

Posted by: coryo at October 20, 2010 2:33 PM

What about her bear ass getting slapped by a belt in The Killer Inside Me! I guess that's not full nudity. But it was ssssoooo sexy.

Posted by: Theseus at October 20, 2010 2:38 PM

Did you see her face in that scene, in the same shot with the alleged ass, Theseus? If not, then it wasn't her.

Posted by: RobP at October 20, 2010 2:46 PM

If I state the obvious would that make me as dumb as her?

Posted by: Candy at October 20, 2010 3:06 PM

Alba photographs very well (even candid photos), but is usually unbearable as an actress...I do recall not hating her first season of Dark Angel (second season got sooo stupeed), and recently rewatched Sin City and did not hate her there either (but she may have been cancelled out by the glory of Bruce Willis).

I have avoided everything else she has been in (even Fantastic Four(s), as it just looked awful), but do have Machete on the hard drive to watch soon, was she awful or ???

Posted by: TrickyHD at October 20, 2010 4:05 PM

What does her catholic family have to say about her playing a slut all the time?

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at October 20, 2010 4:51 PM

Didn't she appear nude in The Sleeping Dictionary?

Or was it a body double?

Posted by: John W at October 20, 2010 5:35 PM

Body double.

Posted by: coryo at October 20, 2010 7:34 PM

Can someone explain to me what the big fuckin' deal is with this woman? Her and Megan Fox both are two of the most overrated "hottest" pieces of ass to come out of Hollywood in the last 10 years.

Posted by: bignick at October 21, 2010 4:10 AM

As much as it saddens me to defend a wooden actress like Jessica Alba, I say good for her for doing the scene on her terms. I don't know if any of you have ever spent time on a film set, but as someone who has, I can understand why an actress might not want to be naked in front of a (probably mostly male) crew for hours. I'm more disturbed by the fact that the retouchers deemed her slender body just not skinny enough.

Posted by: theremingirl at October 21, 2010 7:46 AM

proof that god does not exist and that the world would be a better place if people stopped believing in him.

Posted by: peter at October 21, 2010 7:58 AM

Oh, Jessica, honey, let me relieve you of the mis(immaculate)conception that people are paying their good money to watch your mad actressin' skillz. Your entire "career" is dependent on T&A, OK? So say three Hail Marys and show some skin, because the clock is ticking, honey, and no one will want to see you when you're 35.

Posted by: , at October 21, 2010 9:55 AM

Oh, and honey? Put that sammich down, you fat pig.

Posted by: , at October 21, 2010 10:03 AM

I presume we could apply the same technology to Marilyn Monroe. Ah, I'm so glad I survived into the 21st century.
