The fall season now feels official-like, with a whopping 41 shows premiering this week. Monday, Thursday and Sunday are the biggest days and although there are a few shows over the course of the week I’ll be tuning in for, it’s really all about next Sunday:”The Amazing Race,” “Dexter,” “Californication” and “The Unit,” among others. Hell. Yes. And a friendly reminder about Sunday night — thanks to glorious, glorious football, your CBS and Fox shows may be off by up to an hour, so pad your DVRs accordingly.

Tonight (9/22) “The Big Bang Theory” (CBS, 8 pm), “Dancing with the Stars” (ABC, 8 pm), “How I Met Your Mother” (CBS, 8:30 pm), “Heroes” (NBC, 9 pm, with a countdown special airing before it at 8 pm), “Two and a Half Men” (CBS, 9 pm), “Worst Week” (CBS, 9:30 pm), “Boston Legal” (ABC, 10 pm) and “CSI: Miami” (CBS, 10 pm).

Tuesday (9/23): “NCIS” (CBS, 8 pm), “Oppotunity Knocks” (ABC, 8pm), “The Mentalist” (CBS, 9 pm), “Law & Order: SVU” (NBC, 10 pm) and “Without a Trace” (CBS, 10 pm).

Wednesday (9/24): “Knight Rider” (NBC, 8 pm), “The New Adventures of Old Christine” (CBS, 8 pm), “Gary Unmarried” (CBS, 8:30 pm), “Criminal Minds” (CBS, 9 pm), “CSI: NY” (CBS, 10 pm) and “Lipstick Jungle” (NBC, 10 pm).

Thursday (9/25): “My Name is Earl” (NBC, 8 pm, followed by a second new episode), “Survivor” (CBS, 8 pm), “Ugly Betty” (ABC, 8 pm), “Grey’s Anatomy” (ABC, 9 pm), “The Office” (NBC, 9 pm, hour-long episode), “ER” (NBC, 10 pm)

Friday (9/26): A bit of a breather — nothing new to see here.

Saturday (9/27): “48 Hours Mystery” (CBS, 10 pm).

Sunday (9/28): “60 Minutes” (CBS, 7 pm), “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (ABC, 7 pm), “The Amazing Race” (CBS, 8 pm), “The Simpsons” (Fox, 8 pm), “King of the Hill” (Fox, 8:30 pm), “Cold Case” (CBS, 9 pm), “Desperate Housewives” (ABC, 9 pm), “Family Guy” (Fox, 9 pm), “Dexter” (Showtime, 9 pm), “American Dad” (Fox, 9:30 pm), “The Unit” (CBS, 10 pm), “Brothers & Sisters” (ABC, 10 pm), “Californication” (Showtime, 10 pm), “Little Britain” (HBO, 10:30 pm) and “The Life and Times of Time” (HBO, 11 pm).

When does "30 Rock" start?

Also - is it "Little Britian" or "Little britian USA" that is premiering on 9/28?

When does "30 Rock" start?

I read October 30. I have a long, lonely time ahead of me. At least it's the prime season for the Daily Show.

Oh and it's "Little Britain USA", new episodes in pretty much the same style. For me, they proved the point of why popular characters shouldn't run every week on Saturday Night Live, no matter how much they beg and plead, but maybe they'll mix it up a bit now.

"Pirate Memory Game" is a perfect encapsulation of library work.

Heroes, the Office, Dexter. Right.

Posted by: Lucas at September 22, 2008 10:41 AM

Yay for The Office, SVU and ER!

Ugh, you folks haven't been exaggerating about how bad Two and a Half Men is. I was subjected to a few episodes last week in Labrador, and good lord but it's terrible! Yet for my three co-workers and the driller who was hanging out with us in the common room, it was their absolute favourite show. I just didn't understand...glad I had a book with me, though. I was reading Bonk--and Sarina, your review was spot-on! I'm all the more jealous that Ted got to meet her. My only problem was that any time I put it down, one of my co-workers would pick it up, and I didn't have the heart to grab it back from him 'cause he was enjoying it so much.

I'm nervous about Heroes. I want it to be good, but I'm afraid it will wind up where so many other shows have that started out good... dead to me.

At least I have Walter Bishop.

Does Medium return? I think last year it might not have started until January...wtf is that about?! Anyone know?

I was underimpressed last year, but oh hell. Soccer moms for Patty Arquette!

Posted by: angelbabe at September 22, 2008 10:54 AM

Woo! I'm eagerly anticipating The Office and will definitely be watching Heroes tonight even though it's kind of on probation.

And SVU is kind of a guilty pleasure. I might just FauxVo it instead of watching it live.

Knight Rider. Motherfucking Knight Motherfucking Rider. What, CHiPs wasn't available so NBC has to retread a kiddie show from the Cultural Low Point in TV history?

Unholy Cthulhu, I'd rather they just showed a godsdamned blank screen for an hour.

Posted by: wsapnin at September 22, 2008 12:20 PM

Yay Dexter!!!!

Also yay for the interwebs providing me the first two eps of Californication before they aired.

Posted by: WestCoastPat at September 22, 2008 12:36 PM

Dexter hasn't started yet? Then how have I already watched the first episode of season 3 online?

Posted by: E at September 22, 2008 12:56 PM

@E it was leaked. I saw it as well and was disappointed to learn I had to wait for the season to start before I could see the second episode.

Friday at 9 pm is the first presidential debate.

Oh, and did y'all hear they have to make the debates easier for Ms. Alaska? (I'm trying not to actually mention her name.)
At the insistence of the McCain campaign...

Posted by: Cindy at September 22, 2008 1:52 PM

Cindy, yes, I heard that they made it easier for Caribou Barbie - giving her shorter response times so Biden doesn't kill himself and we all don't suffer terminal brain bubbles as she strains to answer coherently.

Of course, I want to hear her sidekick, The Geezer on Friday night. This should be fun.

Posted by: WMD Cessna Palin at September 22, 2008 2:47 PM

Far be it from me to question, but isn't the point of the debates to hear candidates be challenged? Aren't we supposed to see and hear their intellect?

Posted by: Cindy at September 22, 2008 3:15 PM

Cindy, that notion operates on the assumption that intellect is actually present.

Ugh. I'm running out of words. Still got plenty of bile left though.

Posted by: Fi at September 22, 2008 11:00 PM

Look! Politics killed the TV column.

Posted by: Cindy at September 23, 2008 8:22 AM

What is "The Life and Times of Time"? Can't find it on imdb.com

Posted by: Olivia at September 23, 2008 12:39 PM

Nevermind. It's "The Life and Times of Tim".

Posted by: Olivia at September 23, 2008 12:47 PM

I lost caring about Heroes around episode 7. I did however catch the premiere of Vol. 3 last night.

They are treading dangerous ground with the 'mutant adrenaline' invention, but I have to say it's intriguing. I liked the premiere. It's not as stupid as it was in the first bit though I missed how multi-verse Peter can transpose his own soul into Weevil. I have also always had a problem with villains on the show. Looks like that may continue.

Like what's going on with Hiro and Nathan. Also like the WTF moments with Icewoman and IndianFly. Looking forward to the next episode.

He's the Indian Spider-Man! And he's going through the Indian Man-Spider transformation.

Posted by: Lucas at September 24, 2008 8:31 PM

That sounds dangerous. Marvel already did an Indian Spider-Man after all.
