The End of the Line

Season Premieres / Seth Freilich

Trade News | October 13, 2008 | Comments (33)

The season premieres are starting to get pretty thin now, and I’m bored of doing the weekly updates, so this shall be the last. Try to hold back your tears.

There are plenty of places y’all can get all your TV info for future premieres, and even just when your favorite show has new episodes, the best place being The Futon Critic. And in answer to the most important question, “30 Rock” comes back on October 30. But now, one more time with gusto, here are this week’s season premieres (the only two of which I’ll be checking are “My Own Worst Enemy” and “Crusoe”):

Today (10/13): “Samantha Who?” (ABC, 9:30 pm) and “My Own Worst Enemy” (NBC, 10 pm).

Tuesday (10/14): “Eli Stone” (ABC, 10 pm).

Wednesday (10/15): “David Alan Grier’s Chocolate News” (Comedy Central, 10:30 pm).

Thursday (10/16): Nuthin.

Friday (10/17): “Crusoe” (NBC, 10 pm) and *sigh* “Crash” (Starz, 10 pm).

'cept for Grier's show, a plethora of nascent excrement.

I am oddly interested in "Crusoe". Part of me thinks it looks like a pile o' shite while the other (less sensible) part of me thinks "hmm.. this could be good."

But I still won't be watching, because I will be at the beach. :) Ahh....It's good to be me.

Posted by: wsapnin at October 13, 2008 10:21 AM

Wait... is "Crash" what I think it is? No. No, ohmigod, no. What the fuck? No, really, what the fuck? What-THE-fuck? Is it a three-camera sitcom? No, wait - how about a reality show? Yeah, I like the reality show angle. A small group of random strangers of different ethnic origins are stuck together in a house where they are rewarded for behaving in racially-stereotyped ways or for slandering fellow contestants. Every week there can be an elimination called... no, let's not go there.

I'm only commenting because I've got the day off and I've been up all night, AND, I'm drunk. Ha! Take that!

Now what was the question?

Posted by: Edwina the Magnificent at October 13, 2008 10:36 AM

Oh it's real, Landon. I know because I watched it with my own eyes. One of which I promptly gouged out with a plastic spork. It's ok. Daryl Hannah wishes she could rock an eye patch like I can.

Edwina the Magnificent - you are a mean, mean girl (?) for rubbing your intoxication in my sober face, especially because I should have today off as well.

Meanie.

Posted by: kalafraja at October 13, 2008 10:41 AM

You drunken people need to simmer down.

At least 'til I get my Jack on.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at October 13, 2008 10:43 AM

At least 'til I get my Jack on.

You...you mean like, Jack Daniels, right? Drinking?

Not...like...

Ugh. Why do I think of such things? I need to go clean my brain now. With a shotgun.

Posted by: Sean (Llama) at October 13, 2008 10:56 AM

Yeah, don't have today off but my alarm didn't go off so now I've missed two classes. Guess I'll just drink instead?
I am beginning to think David Allen Grier is trying to make a Chappelle's Show. But I think people forget how talented Chappelle really was.

Posted by: Optimus Rhyme at October 13, 2008 11:00 AM

since american tv impacts my life about as much as a rice sack falling over in china I'm gonna go on a tangent here and ask What the hell happened to Dave Chappelle ?

Posted by: tris at October 13, 2008 11:11 AM

It's a bit like what Thom Yorke talked about in "Meeting People Is Easy". If you get offered a lot of money you might spend a lot of money and then you're gonna need more money to maintain everything "and that's how they get you". You've gotta play by the rules if you don't want to go out of business, now that you're at this elevated level. So as I understand it, he didn't want to be beholden to Comedy Central, felt they were hassling him and the show, and basically said that there's no point and no fun in continuing under such pressure, and he fucked off back home where he says he's a lot happier.

Posted by: Jay at October 13, 2008 11:19 AM

Well, he went to Africa somewhere in all of that. I hate that they showed all of the sketches that didn't make it, sans Dave.
If he didn't think they deserved it, they shouldn't be on tv. It's his show, it has HIS NAME ON IT. (That being said, I enjoyed the Tupac joke.)

Posted by: Optimus Rhyme at October 13, 2008 11:25 AM

so the stuff about him being offered 20 million for 2-3 seasons was true ?

Posted by: tris at October 13, 2008 11:26 AM

50 million

I'm holding to my promise during the Olympics. As punishment for their awful coverage, I won't be watching any NBC series, especially My Own Worst Enemy which they crammed down viewers' throats ad nauseam during the Olympics.

I didn't even realize that Crusoe show was a series. I assumed it was a miniseries.

"What the hell happened to Dave Chappelle?"

Last I heard, he was shacking up with Izzard in Driver's buhgeena...

Posted by: Skitz at October 13, 2008 11:40 AM

Anyone else think Comedy Central is trying way too hard to land another Chapelle's Show? I'm sorry, Grier is no Chapelle. Though, I will concede that he'll always be funnier than Carlos Mencia, that pile of metally handicapped atoms pushed together in the form of a pathetically unfunny man.

Posted by: Audiosuede at October 13, 2008 11:41 AM

Patrice should have gotten a spot on Chocolate News.

Posted by: Lucas at October 13, 2008 11:46 AM

Bored with, not bored of.

Sorry, but that one always bugs me.

Topic? Nada. It all looks rather dull to me.

Posted by: Tarn at October 13, 2008 11:59 AM

"Grier is no Chapelle. Though, I will concede that he'll always be funnier than Ca.."

--------------------------------------------

And then again Chapelle is no Grier, have you SEEN the characters Grier has come up with, before Chapelle came along I might add? I think it's about time for him to get his due.
Oh, and I love Chapalle BTW, just sayin' Grier is right up there, if not better.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at October 13, 2008 12:05 PM

Jeebus, Slim, do you have some kind of Pajiba-post alarm hooked up to your PC that goes off like a fuckin' fire siren to make sure you're always the first one to comment?

I mean, seriously, where'd you get it, cause I want one. I'd hook it up to my pint glass so the bartender would always know when it's time for a refill.

Posted by: bucdaddy at October 13, 2008 12:08 PM

It's called my Slimjiba-Sense (tm) it gives me a hard-on as as new entries are being processed.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at October 13, 2008 12:12 PM

BSlim, I'm inclined to say that this would be an interesting mental image as I sit at my desk, on a holiday, when the office is empty. Instead, I think I am disturbed. They post rather frequently here, you know.

Didn't know boys could keep up like that.

Posted by: kalafraja at October 13, 2008 12:26 PM

BSlim, I agree. Grier is a very talented comedian and was one of the reasons I watched In Living Color. Even his brief rendition of "Broadway" had me cracking up.

And before Jack McFarland of "Will and Grace", there was Blaine & Antoine Merryweather. "Two snaps, a twist, and a kiss!" Oh, those memories.

May I wax unpoetic about how irritating Christian Slater is and how I'm not going to watch "My Own Worst Actor" or any other vehicle where this rube isn't essentially walking around playing himself? Why does he have a job? Why?

Millions of hard working Amuricans walk around jobless and this One-Toot-Johnny still can pay his mortgage? Why, Lord?

I prefer to think of Christian Slater as the acting equivalent of the Batshit Crazy Left Handed Pitcher who only plays every Third Thursday against switch hitting Venezuelan not named Hugo. May God strike him with a case of the Breckin Meyer.

Amen.

Posted by: Stacy D at October 13, 2008 2:39 PM

Can you believe that I actually had a dream that I was dating Breckin Meyer? Why? I don't know! He had that creepy long hair. And in the dream, mr.wsapnin didn't seem to care that I had a shorty little actor dude on the side. He was TOTALLY in love with me, though--but then who wouldn't be? It still haunts me.

Posted by: wsapnin at October 13, 2008 3:13 PM

A hard-on? Damnation. I'm trying to think how that would work with the pint glass/bartender scenario. Does SHE get the hard-on or do I? And if I do, do I yell, "Hey, barmistress! I got a hard-on for you! I need a fill-er-up," And she says, "Another tall one? Coming right up!"

Heh. "COMING right up." Catch that?

Posted by: bucdaddy at October 13, 2008 3:48 PM

HAHA!! wsapnin is like "What's happening?!" Wow, I'm incredibly Anglo-Saxon-American.

Posted by: ThunderSacTriumph at October 13, 2008 4:37 PM

Haha!! "wsapnin" is like asking "What's happening?!"

Posted by: ThunderSacTriumph at October 13, 2008 4:45 PM

Bollox! That wasn't intended to be a self deprecating double entendre playing upon my incompetence, just a single!

Posted by: ThunderSacTriumph at October 13, 2008 4:50 PM

uuhh... are you new here, or what? Or did it just take you that long to figure it out?

although i tend to look it at as a statmement more than a question.

Posted by: wsapnin at October 13, 2008 5:41 PM

All apologies for rubbing your sober, working faces in my early morning intoxication. Being that I live out in the wilds of the mysterious Pacific Time Zone, I always seem to come into the comments long after everyone else has abandoned them. The opportunity had to be seized!

Posted by: Edwina the Magnificent at October 13, 2008 8:20 PM

What no Samantha Who?! You know it's promising you can't deny it. Christina Applegate looks even paler and less appealing than she did while on Married with Children, but at least she's trying?! Nah, whatever, I saw a commercial for it and it looks VILE!
