This Day in Terrible Idea History: Remaking Not One, but TWO Bonnie and Clyde Movies for Generation LOL

Back in 2009, there were reports of an unofficial remake of Bonnie and Clye, which was more akin to a reboot: Same characters, different story. At the time, Hilary Duff was attached to play Bonnie, while Kevin Zegers — from Air Bud 3 — was attached to the Warren Beaty role.

I don’t know what happened to that project. It’s apparently still happening, as it’s been fully cast with the likes of Chloris Leachman, Taryn Manning, and Thora Birch, and it’s written and directed by Tonya S. Holly. I suspect it’s straight-to-DVD material. This is what Duff looks like in the movie:

But now comes Neil Burger, the director behind Limitless and The Illusionist, who is also attached to direct Uncharted: Drake’s Fortunre. Now, he’s going to direct another version of Bonnie and Clyde, based on the book, Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde. The novel apparently “deromanticizes ” the couple, which is perfect for Hollywood because they can “re-romanticize” it and extract whatever it is that makes the novel interesting and unique. It will almost certainly be a remake starring the likes of Scarlett Johansson and Bradley Cooper. They look just like the original Bonnie and Clyde, don’t they?

I hope they use lasers instead of guns and maybe Bonnie and Clyde can escape Johnny Law with their by create routes around the coppers with Google Maps on their iPads.

Wouldn’t that be perfect! LOL!

Oh, damn! I forgot to turn off my oven and now and I need to go put my head in it. I’d hate to let all that heat go to waste.

Bad idea taco.

Not only is Bonnie & Clyde one of those memorable movies from the past, it's iconic enough that any remake would immediately be compared negatively against the Beatty/Dunaway classic.

What's next? Remake Lawrence of Arabia? The Good, The Bad & The Ugly?

I came, I saw, I did not give a shit.

I'm beyond caring now.

Hillary Duff represents her generation, perfectly.

And if they really wanted to "deromanticize" those two scumbags they would show Clyde indulging his immense enthusiasm for penis.

We can't watch old movies. THEY'RE OLD! You have to give it a modern touch, despite the fact that it's set in the past and stylized to look pretty much exactly like the previous version. (OK, I'm really only judging that based on the header pic.)

For some reason, I originally though it was Jeri Ryan in the header pic and I was going to be ecstatic to see that they were she is still out there. Hilary Duff, I have no use for, seeing as I'm not 12 anymore.

You mistook Jeri Ryan's breasts for Hillary duffs breasts? You better get the eyes checked Soc.

Neither of these women look like they could hip-fire a twenty pound Browning Automatic Rifle. Because the real Bonnie could.

My eyes were focused in the wrong area. Sorry. From now I will only look at a woman's chest and not her face in order to avoid making such silly mistakes.

Baby steps.

Okay. The Faye Dunaway/Warren Beatty "Bonnie and Clyde" is too horrible for words. It is unwatchable. It sucks. I'd rather sit through Bicentennial Man or Heaven's Gate.

The movie being made that is supposed to star Hillary Duff, is being made by some lady who has interviewed and talked to some of the living relatives, but honestly, if she ever scrapes together enough money to finish it I will be surprised. And if she manages it, I am sure it will suck. I wish her good luck, but with a small budget you really don't have much to work with (Duff?!?!).

Their story in an interesting one, and would probably make a great movie... well a good movie.

And by the way, I am pretty sure Bonnie never actually shot anyone. And she absolutely hated that everyone thought she smoked cigars.

Socrates,
When you mentioned "they" in your post I assumed you meant her breasts. I apologize for assuming you were a superficial male such as myself.

Posted by: logan at July 26, 2011 2:26 PM

That's totally what I meant. There was clearly some sort of processing error in my brain in identifying her. Sorry if my reply sounded more accusatory than I meant. It was just meant to be a joke.

Alright then! Let's go look at some lesbian porn!

Posted by: logan at July 26, 2011 2:33 PM

I hope they use lasers instead of guns and maybe Bonnie and Clyde can escape Johnny Law with their by create routes around the coppers with Google Maps on their iPads.

Or Bonnie and Clyde and Aliens? The Rise of the Plan by Bonnie and Clyde?

Posted by: branded at July 26, 2011 2:56 PM

Real lesbian porn, or that silly stuff they make so that straight men feel better about themselves?

Posted by: Jerry at July 26, 2011 3:04 PM

Read the Public Enemies book that Mann's film was based on. Bonnie & Clyde were bush league compared to Dillinger.
Still doesn't change the fact that Faye Dunnaway was beyond hot back then. Sorry Duffster, you look like you're going to a Halloween party.

Posted by: The Sandwich at July 26, 2011 5:17 PM

I can't fully explain it, but I want to see that Hilary Duff version.

Posted by: DarthCorleone at July 26, 2011 6:36 PM

Just for its comedic value, I'm sure, Darth.

Fredo, Fredo, Fredo.
Don't you realize when you toss out horrible, sarcastic cinematic concepts on this site some lurking studio troll will immediately snap them up and pitch them, forcing our heroic Pajibeans to then sit through the ensuing crap a year or so later and post their outrage on this site, whereupon someone will make a comment entailing yet more horrible, sarcastic cinematic concepts and...
You see where I'm going with this?
