The first episode of the rebooted The X-Files was screened at New York Comic Con yesterday. According to reports it got a great reception from the crowd there, and after the screening Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny, and Mitch Pileggi sat down with Kumail Nanjiani to discuss the new season and what we can look forward to.

— The Lone Gunman are back! Not in the first episode, but they will be appearing in the new season.

— There are a mix of stand alone, Monster of the Week, episodes as well as mythology episodes.

— The first episode, though, is hard core mythology of the show and the first episode starts with a voice over by Mulder that covers the previous nine seasons of mythology as well as the characters’ backgrounds. So if you’re not planning on watching all nine previous seasons of The X-Files before the show comes back, you won’t be lost.

— Mulder and Scully are not living together as of the beginning of the rebooted show. Carter says he did this to show “the passage of time.” But they are still cordial with one another.

— The effects are better. The Vulture rundown talks about the scale of the first episode as “cinematic” than the previous network episodes.

— You have Duchovny to thank for the reboot. He was on board first, even before Chris Carter, and the rest followed.

The new season of The X-Files will begin airing Sunday, January 24th.
