  • After reporting that negotiations had broken down between Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn and the producers of X-Men: First Class, Nikki Finke is now reporting that a deal is being negotiated for him to direct. I think Finke just made up the first part to fill some space on a slow Friday. (Deadline)

  • In this weekend's box-office report, I suggested that Nightmare on Elm Street's $32 million probably wouldn't be enough to get a sequel greenlit. I was wrong. Oh, so very wrong. Warner Brothers and New Line are talking 3D sequel. Why the fuck not? (Slashfilm)

  • New screenwriter Adam Cozad has apparently found a niche. He's working on the new Jack Ryan movie, a script that has echoes of his first unproduced script Dubai (a CIA Agent on the run from international figures, needing to clear his name, and save his wife). He's now penning The Gray Man, about a "former CIA operative-turned-assassin who suddenly finds himself on the run through Europe as mysterious forces try to take him out. Meanwhile, he struggles to return and save the lives of the daughters who don't know he exists." (THR)

  • David Sedaris is one of the few prolific popular contemporary writers who hasn't had his work turned into a film. That will no longer be the case. David Sedaris gave the rights to "C.O.G." from Naked to Easier With Practice director Kyle Patrick Alvarez, who has now completed the script. The story was about the time Sedaris got a job cutting rocks into the shape of Oregon and selling them, along with a co-worker who called himself "Child of God" (C.O.G.). And if you haven't seen it, the phone-sex love story Easier With Practice, which Prisco adored, is now streaming on Netflix. (Gordon and the Whale)

  • The Polish brothers, the director twins who brought us Twin Falls Idaho and the unspectacular Astronaut Farmer, are directing a road trip love movie, For Lovers Only. "Castle's" Stana Katic, who is much prettier than her acting talent, will star. (Variety)

  • Here's the first official still of Bel Ami, a movie about a young man's rise to power in Paris via his manipulation of the city's most influential and wealthy women. That young man is Robert Pattinson, and one of those wealthy women is clearly Uma Thurman. She should put on a shawl.

  • White Lady Andrea Berloff, who wrote Oliver Stone's World Trade Center, has been tasked with penning the script for Straight Outta Compton, a biopic about the rise and fall of N.W.A. The fall of N.W.A. ends with Ice Cube's Are We There Yet? Tragic. (THR)

  • Sam Rockwell is the latest to join the cast of Cowboys and Aliens, Jon Favreau's cowboys and Native Americans vs. aliens pic. Rockwell joins Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Munn. (THR)

  • Little Miss Sunshine is being turned into a musical. (EW)

  • Coolness. Why was Leno's White House Correspondent's speech so bad? Because his jokes were completely recycled (word for word) from his own monologue. (Politico) Why was Obama's speech so much better? Because his jokes were written by "The Daily Show" writers. (Deadline)
