The series, The Leftovers, is based on a Tom Perrotta (Election) novel about a future in which one day two percent of the entire world’s population mysteriously disappears. (It’s kind of the reverse of Resurrection). My guess is that the mystery behind the disappearance will be compelling as hell, and we’ll spend — oh, I don’t know — six seasons obsessing over what caused the disappearance, only to ultimately be let down by the ending because — let’s face it — when it comes to supernatural, religious, or otherworldly explanations, it is impossible to provide a satisfactory ending, which Lindelof knows all too well.

I think, however, if we go into The Leftovers with that understanding and simply enjoy the ride, the speculation, and the mystery, we might just be able to enjoy it despite the eventual conclusion.
