The Spirit Awards, which recognize the best in independent film, announced their nominations today, and thus far, Boyhood, Selma, and Birdman are leading the pack, while Whiplash is right behind. The important thing is, if any of these movies are available in your neighborhood over the long weekend, try and make an effort to see them (especially two of our favorite films of the year around here, Boyhood and Birdman).
