And as far as I can tell from the trailer, she’s quite the success. Then again, I’m a total sucker for these novelistic, coming-of-age films about finding yourself and your place in the world, particularly those that are high-school set. Any film that has voice-over narration that includes the line, “And at this moment,” I tend to be gushy for. It’s “The Wonder Years” effect. The gay best friend is just gravy.

Go on with your bad self, Emma Watson.

  • Stephen Chbosky's debut novel "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" is one of those books that doesn't just breed fans, it inspires devotion. Since MTV published it in 1999, the young-adult novel about a misfit teenager

  • Just here to say I'm super excited about the new commenting system.

  • Goddess of Apathy

I'm sorry, but your English teacher is probably the coolest mofo you will meet. Don't knock it!

  • Irina

Ooooh this looks totally perfect. I doubted Logan Lerman could play anything but cocky asshole but I stand corrected. Ezra Miller is perfect but I expected that from him, I mean, have you seen interviews of him? He's always high. If he can pull off Kevin, he can do this. The two of them make out in the book, I really hope they keep that part. Because I'm a perv like that. Gimme two boys kissing, and I give you my money. Every time. Unconditionally.

  • Anna von Beav

I "like"d that because "two boys kissing".

  • Jen13

Ahhh I just watched We Need to Talk About Kevin last night and that one guy is still a creepy psychopath in my head. Run away Hermione!

That said, I too am a sucker for this genre and totally want to see it.

  • Kristobel

Um, you only needed two words to sell me on this movie. "Paul Rudd." Done.

  • Becca Eberman

I loved this book with all my 14 year old My Chemical Romance loving heart, and will still defend it to the death. The trailer looks good, and Logan Lerman doesn't look as bad as I anticipated (to be fair to him, when I heard he was cast in this movie, The Lightning Thief was the only thing I had seen him in, and nothing could have saved that mess.) Patrick looks just about perfect. Emma Watson wouldn't have been by first choice when casting Sam though....but I can't think of anybody else at the moment. Suggestions?

  • HMDK

Develop a better taste in fiction?

  • Caspar

Oh Dustin, I love you for saying "go on with your bad self".

  • ICanHazLolCat?

Going to watch it just because it has Ezra Miller in it. And he was pretty good in We Need to Talk.

  • POINGjam

Why do wallflowers in movies always look so pretty?

  • Clancys_daddy

     Because they were never wallflowers.

  • Sefa

I don't put much stock in Watson's acting skills, but damn is it nice to see her have some personality and pizazz on screen. And hello, Pittsburgh. This is quite your year, starring in two movies.

  • And the fauxhipsters rejoice. Lerman is still pretty adorable though.

  • NGG

Wow... that made me flash back to high school.... in a major and that aint good.. but looks well written... And made in Louisville, KY (the bridge and skyline scene looked VERY familiar!)  Now I will have to dig and see if it in fact was made there.

  • TS

    Stupid region specific clips...........

  • Skyler Durden

I can't see the trailer at work, so I'm going to guess that Hermione enters Percy Jackson's life and changes him forever with the power of her magical quirk and bottomless playlist of Suftjan Stevens.

And then Kevin murders them both.

  • BWeaves

I must be the only one bothered by the idiots standing up in the back of a moving pickup truck.  Sit down and wear a seatbelt.  And a helmet.

  • DeistBrawler

    You never did that?

We had a habit of riding on both the top of my Oldsmobile and the hood.

  • Scott

"The gay best friend is just gravy."

    (snort)  Why?  Because he's gay?
What's gravy here?  The over-the-top "passive aggressive" bit?
    Yeeeesh.

  • pcloadletter

    1. YAY!  DISQUS!
    2. This looks cute, and Watson's American accent sounded okay.

  • Pajiba_Pragmatist

Really?  I figured with that accent, we'd be introduced some plot point about she was born abroad, and that's why she's an outsider.

Her American accent is generally on par with Dick VanDyke's British accent (for those who have not watched Mary Poppins, Dick Van Dyke's accent is so bad there are websites dedicated to it http://modvda.blogspot.com/).

  • jess

I hated the book.  However, this trailer has me charmed.

I am having some trouble dealing with Ezra Miller not being a sociopath, though.

  • hapl0

So the one on the left is the girl, right?

  • Jezzer

Based on the trailer right now, I'm sold, but I'm warning you:  if this is one of those movies that takes a horrible, depressing turn in the third act with Manic Pixie cancer or a gaybashing death or Macauley Culkin getting killed by bees, I'm setting fire to the site and not looking back.

  • E-Money

My 16 year old self ate this book up! I think I read it one New Year's Eve home alone and cried over it. This looks like a sweet adaptation.

  • DeistBrawler

Is this the one where she has tattoos?

I'm guessing not because she's still in high school.

I actually feel like I could probably relate to this one more than any other high school movie I've seen. With the exception of the cafeteria scenes. I never ate lunch in the cafeteria. I preferred to spend that time writing in the library.
