The Official Poster for "Mad Men" Season 6 Suggests Murder, Intrigue, Cloning?

By Dustin Rowles | Trade News | March 11, 2013 | Comments ()

Look here! The new poster for Mad Men season six comes from 75-year-old Brian Sanders, an ad man from back in the day. He illustrated Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey and did paperback covers for John Steinbeck, among others.

We don't know a damn thing about the new season of "Mad Men" yet, so this poster is the first real bit of information we have about what's coming: It looks like Don Draper is holding on to someone's hand (Megan perhaps, or a dismembered hand from a corpse?); there are police men in the background, obviously suggesting that Don Draper murdered Megan, and there are two Don Drapers, so clearly there's an evil clone on the loose. The 60s were a strange time.

Intriguing stuff, right?

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

and he doesn't have a briefcase because This Season: It's Personal

  • Eleanor

don's only path forward takes him through the cops. Looks like he'll finally face the consequences of being Dick.

  • BWeaves

Man, you people are reading way too much stuff into this poster, which is what they want you to do.

Wait? Did Don step in something?

I'm just struck by how different the drawing style is from designs actually shown in Mad Men. It's a bit jarring.

  • Kballs

He's choosing between spending the rest of his life with his wife or as an ad-man (and essentially becoming Roger 2.0). The poster hints that the advertising route is fraught with peril (see: Stop sign, cops, the One Way sign indicating that once he chooses he can't go back, the tall buildings skewed severely like they're falling over which could be its own hint that the ad business as he knows it is about to collapse and leave him in ruins), but the woman in his hand is out of frame, indicating she may be more mysterious and unknown than he thought and fraught with her own peril.

Also, the plane is flying against the One Way sign, possibly indicating a third option that he's employed before: running away from his problems and disappearing.

    I think I'm done here . . .

  • Kballs

And one more thing . . . he's holding the briefcase in the same hand he's holding the woman's hand, a clear indication that he can't have both.

  • Return of Santitas

hoooooooomg I am so excited for this.

  • Jo 'Mama' Besser

Remember when Don handcuffed Bobbie Barrett to that bed railing in season 2? Well, she finally chewed her arm off and we all know that Don's girls never stay away permanently. They're probably going to her son's retirement party.

  • L.O.V.E.

Cloning? A New York street scene with a mysterious woman? Looks like Don took the red pill.

And is it just me, or is that woman's hand placement indicating she is facing the other direction? Perhaps they are about to let their grip go?

My reading: this Don is going away from law and order. Away from his career on Madison Avenue. Its the wrong way.

But he is going the same direction as the taxi cab and the airplane. And perhaps with a woman. This is the romantic, impulsive Don.

The other Don has the briefcase. Business? A secret?

The two Don's eye each other with distrust.

One clocks in for the day while the other clocks out.

  • Tracer Bullet

I like the way the show has dealt with Draper's dual identity in the past few seasons, using it as a (largely unspoken) source of tension as he struggles to be the man he wants to be rather than the man he is. I'll be disappointed if they go back to holding it over his head like the Sword of Damocles that could, but almost certainly won't, ruin his life.

  • Basil C. Rockwell

Great! Mad Men is going to be amazing this year!

  • Blake

Mad Men is great every year, except when Don had the affair with Bobbie in Season 2.

Hamm sadly will never win an Emmy.

  • Basil C. Rockwell

Yep. Never will and can't understand why

  • logan

    Did Megan get breast implants?

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

No, or at least not unless they're incredibly well done and she's had them since Lost and Delirious. You should Google that (image or video, ideally), I'll wait.

    You're welcome.

  • Nines

Google: Jessica Pare Hot Tube Time Machine.

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

This too, but I was trying to be classy. Also lesbians.

  • Nines

+ 1000 Lost and Delirious but does have Mischa Barton which is a huge fail.

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

Sure, but it's Mischa Barton during, like, that period where she didn't suck and was basically an acceptable presence with a potentially promising future. You know, pre-Marissa Cooper.

  • Dick Whitman's always looking over his shoulder.

  • amanda

He's leaving behind the early 60's and the man in the grey flannel suit.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Figgy's brain has suffered a short-circuit at the sight of some Hamm thighs, and she'll be out of commission for the foreseeable future. Please leave your message after the beep, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

  • TheFatling

Don's going to replace Winona Ryder in a production of "Swan Lake."
