The Extended Trailer for Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Is Chock Full of Whedon-y Goodness

By Dustin Rowles | Trade News | May 14, 2013 | Comments ()

If you didn't know that Joss Whedon was behind SHIELD, you'd know it within 20 seconds of this full, three-minute trailer, which has Joss Whedon's aroma (Irish Spring and fruity seltzer water) all over it. That's never a bad thing.

Sit back. Maybe take off your hat. Let the trailer blow back your hair, folks.

Agents of SHIELD airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC this fall.

  • Welcome to Level 7. In my pants!

So..enver gjokaj is in this right? He needs to be in more things...

  • wmdon

Is that really my once, future, and forever girlfriend Ming Fucking Na?

  • You are mistaken. it is MY future wife Ming Fucking Na. I don't know where yours is.

  • Yup.

  • cruzzercruz

Wow, a comments section on the internet where not everyone is whining incessantly about how cheap, unfunny, and pointless this looks. I think I'll claim a corner and stick around.

This is going to be fantastic.

  • Muhnah_Muhnah

"Is one of them the easy way? " "No" "Oh" I reserve judgement. I'm not going to give Whedon a carte blanche just because he's a magical witty ginger.

  • Mr_Zito

That looks good. But the Coulson thing is bothering me. I don't know how they are bringing him back (and I'm trying to keep myself spoiler-free on that) but I rewatched Avengers for the first time last week, and it kind of ruins the motivation on the third act if you know Coulson didn't really die. I was hoping his participation in this series was some flashback, orientation videos or whatever, I've only now realized they are actually gonna MARVEL him out of his death. It's like when Aunt May came back: one thing is to have a super hero come back, but when the human and grounded (and grounding) characters pull stuff like faking their death, it bugs me. Anyway, if the show is as good as it looks, it won't matter that much.

  • gutpunchprod

You said it yourself, 'the motivation'. That's all that was needed, by means nefarious or otherwise,

  • TheOtherGreg

I got the impression in the Coulson 'death' scene that Coulson was telling Fury to use his death as a tool. And, other than a few seconds of immobility with his eyes open, there's no conclusive proof - no autopsy, no burial, no Fury reaching out and closing the eyelids.

  • That, and he obviously faked the blood on the cards when he tossed them onto the table.

I think having Fury involved in covering up Coulson's death makes him that much more like the Fury of the comics, lying and doing "whatever it takes" to win.

  • foolsage

The faked cards were a bit of a giveaway. Also, there's the most basic rule of comic book deaths: if we don't see the corpse and stop to absolutely confirm that he's dead, he isn't dead. This doesn't only go for the superpowered characters either. Good lord, how many times has the Joker "died" (aka ended a comic with what appeared to be his death but really wasn't)? Hundreds of times at this point, I wager.

I found the whole thing very appropriate. I'm happy to have Son of Coul back with us.

  • Mr_Zito

Yeah, but the thing is that the whole "internal crisis" in the second act of The Avengers is about "what Shield is not telling them", and this puts the whole thing at risk. So if they unite them with such a big lie in the end, that's a little too manipulative and risky, it just doesn't make sense.

  • Um...comics.

  • Oh Yay! Its Heroes with a brand name. (The excitement is sarcasm, the description is not)

  • Tinkerville

  • NateMan

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Ohhhhh YES. Sorry. I need a tissue.

  • superasente

My computer monitor is broken now.

    Because I just fucked it.

  • NateMan

I hope you used protection, cuz those scratches will friggin' HURT.

"Due to international rights agreements, we only offer this video to viewers located within the United States and its territories." Booh!

  • nini

Since when is Finland located within the United States or its territories? Because I had no problems watching the clip...

  • TheOtherGreg

FFS, companies, what exactly do you think you're 'protecting' by preventing Canadians from seeing your trailer?

  • Wembley

Once you take Beiber back, you can have nice things...

  • Fabius_Maximus

If you don't know about, you'll not download it illegally?

  • Mrcreosote

Whoohooo! Is this like a Marvel version of "Powers"? I hope so. Also Caulson! Zombie Caulson? Hologram Caulson? Homoculous Caulson? Clone Caulson? Robot Caulson? Mystic shell of Caulson? Magic Shell Caulson? That would be the one that hardens when it's cold. Wow, that came out wrong.

  • Fabius_Maximus

Well, it's Coulson, for a start.

  • Batesian

That explains it: it was Caulson who was killed in the movie!
