The Expendables Real And Rumored Cast Has Enough Testosterone To Fill A Swimming Pool

I’m sort of surprised at how interested I am in The Expendables 2: Expendable Boogaloo. The first one was really no more than mildly amusing, but there were glimpses of the potential for a much better movie in there. It was entirely too humorless, although the rapport between Stallone and The Statham was rather promising. Now, the casting rumors are flying all over the damn place, and we’re finally getting some confirmations.

Most of the original cast — Stallone, Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Terry Crews, and Mickey Rourke — are likely to return. Additionally, Deadline is now reporting that Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger have been locked in, and this time for much more substantial roles. I kind of dug their brief pissing contest in the first one, so I’m down with that.

The remaining rumored cast gained some momentum as well. Moviehole claimed over the weekend that Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme had been added as well, although there has been no official confirmation. And the final rumor is still totally unsubstantiated, but would be more awesome than any of the other casting news — the possibility that Donnie Yen would play a part.

Fuckin’ Donnie Yen, man.

The idea of Van Damme in this mess gives me a semi.

Yes, I grew up in the 80s.

OMG we were watching The Expendables Friday night and I went to look something up on my IMDb app about it and I saw that there was a sequel and I was all "shut up" and then there was some sort of casting rumors story on my IMDb app and I was all "SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP." because Nic Cage and Christian Slater and John Travolta and oh god the ham. So much ham.

I LOVE HAM.

@Anna von Beav--if Sly, Nic, Christian, Dolph, Bruce, and The Statham were all in the same movie together...I might actually fall into a joy coma.

Also, this news will probably make The Boyfriend cry, since he HATES (in no particular order) Nic Cage, Sylvester Stallone, The Statham, and brainless action movies.

I also grew up in the 80's, so this makes me indescribably happy. I should not be so amused and thrilled over this, but I can't help it, I love cheesy action movies.

How can anyone hate The Statham?! OMG. OMG. Siege, that's AWFUL. You should probably abjure him now, and save yourself years of heartache.

Exactly what I was thinking AvB.

Give him a fast abjure and be done with him.

Probly likes romantic comedies and quiche...

If Donnie Yen and Jet Li get into a fight, the world shall be torn asunder. Fearless vs. Ip Man: The battle for Wing Chung Supremacy!

See, the Donnie Yen clip there is what I was talking about in the "Columbiana" thread, how everything must be exquisitely choreographed to keep the 10 guys from just gang-rushing Donnie and burying him in a pig pile and then sitting on his chest and slapping him silly.

Must be the Bad Guys' Honor Code again: Never hit an opponent when he isn't looking.

Who else would like to see Paul Reubens in the sequel?

No one?

HAHAHA! I was just joking anyway, guys!

You know who they need to draft in?

Bolo Yeung.
Certainly a great 80s villain ...Enter the Dragon... Bloodsport... c'mon!

Thank you Chung Lee, I miss my old friend Bolo. The good old days when movies were just movies, I gotta go, something is in my eye.

Donnie Yen should be much higher in fame than Jet Li. He consistently pumps out more films than Li with much better martial arts.

I'd also dare to say he's a better actor.

Donnie Yen!

Posted by: DeistBrawler at September 7, 2011 3:05 PM

I don't see the point of adding Donnie Yen if they don't spend at least 10 minutes of the movie doing martial arts sequences.

Expendables was disappointing because all I got from Jet was dat one! head snap and him getting rag doll-ed by Lundgren.

Was hoping for a Way of the Dragon homage with Jet and Chuck but now that we have Donnie in addition to JCVD, i'm starting to lose hope for an old school martial arts showdown between two guys.

And where's Tony Jaa since we're bringing in everybody now?

I didn't see the first one and I don't plan to see this one either. I want this to be true. I love to hear by brother talk when he's seen an action movie he loves. This should be good. Emailing him the story now. Military men live for news like this.

The pissing contest was absolutely the best thing that happened in "The Expendables." Everything else was posturing.

Posted by: Mr.West at September 7, 2011 5:09 PM

First I was gonna suggest Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson but the steroid budget just wasn't there.

You know who would be a perfect fit though?
Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner.
