I love the annual comedy issue of Vanity Fair because, for those who aren't up with the latest in comedy, you can find out who the up-and-coming stars in the comedy world are, like ... Jerry Seinfeld. And Chris Rock. And Ben Stiller. And Will Ferrell, and Jim Carrey. And, uhm, Megan Fox. Wait a second. Are these the covers for the 2002 comedy issue of Vanity Fair?

Whatever. Amy Poehler looks edible, people. EDIBLE. Like a little marshmallow cupcake that giggles when you stick it in your pocket.

Comments Are Welcome, Jerks Will Be Banned

  • First, Seinfeld looks like one of the geeks from Big Bang Theory. Is that styling, retouching, or hella plastic surgery? Second, fuck you to whomever did that to Melissa McCarthy. Third, Jim Carrey is still alive?

  • I will give them a tiny, tiny high five for putting the 40 year old in a bikini over the so-called sex symbol.

  • Jezzer

Technically, Amy Poehler IS edible. But that is "cannibalism," children, and it is wrong.

  • No Pithy Name

At first glance I thought that was Moist doing the dance next to Chris Rock. At least that would have been an actor from this decade.

  • John W

    2002?! Try 1992.

  • BAM

Melissa McCarthy is, what, a fat scary she-clown? Come on VF. She is hilarious and great looking. If it weren't for Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler's prominence, I'd be throwing up the VF boycott signs right now.

  • forza_rossi

WHY is there no Jason Segal !

  • NoPantsMcLane

    Steven Seagal is funnier.

  • Nicole_OCTV

Can we replace Jim Carrey with Taran Killam and Will Ferrell with Louis CK? I like Will Ferrell and all, but c'mon, he's not exactly of the moment. I'd also really love it if they kicked out Megan Fox in favor of Tig Notaro.

  • Bedewcrock

Ah! I just relistened to her "no moleste" bit. i love her delivery. her stand-up show on the Louis CK website is phenomenal.

  • Tinkerville

Jim Carrey is still a thing?

  • bleujayone

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell me which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish this song?

  • Pookie

So in other words, Vanity Fair is a rich’s man T.V. Guide? Oh look, there’s Chris Rock and his ever present smile, I wonder if he knows that he’s already rich and famous and he can cool it with the black Paul Rudd routine?

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

Chris Rock isn't even a quarter the adorable Paul Rudd is.

  • Skyler Durden is not logged in

I want to see a photoshop retcon. Drop Megan Fox, Jerry Seinfeld, and Ben Stiller. Replace them with Louis, Rebel Wilson, and Kate McKinnon.

  • Nicole_OCTV

OMG Rebel Wilson is the shit. Even her late night interviews are insanely hilarious. Her delivery and timing is amazing.

  • UGH. Why do people keep fucking around with Melissa McCarthy? Jesus, that poor woman and the shit he has to wear for magazines.

  • BendinIntheWind

Totally agree. They had to put the big girl in back and dress her like a weird childlike clown-monster?

  • Right? Look at every other woman in those covers. They're all gorgeously styled. But yeah, let's dress the fat girl in a clown suit and stick her in the background so she won't scare the children.

    That's seriously pissed me off.

  • BendinIntheWind

I remember sometime last year she was on the cover of Entertainment Weekly dressed as the queen of England. She was holding a corgi, so normally all would be forgiven, but I couldn't help but think "WHY????"

I don't understand why she says yes to these things. It's like the episode of 30 Rock where Liz does a photo shoot and Jenna warns her "Don't let them give you any props - they'll always use the one with the props because it makes you look stupid."

  • SchmidtUltra

I loved Megan Fox's comedy special!

  • Chayes

Can't wait to see what those Blues Brothers are up to...

  • deadnotsleeping

Oh, I get it: half of these people are funny, and the other half are jokes!

  • BWeaves

Are the covers supposed to be funny? Just looks tacky. Except for Amy P. who looks really hot.

Also, were any of these people actually in the same room at the same time? I've done better cut and paste with rubber cement and actual paper.

  • Miss Laaw-yuhr

I'm with you. It's like the operative word was "zany". The 70's were so zany! Cleopatra and a stuntman - zany! Whatever the fuck Leslie Mann is - zany! They went in thinking they had comedy gold and came out with painfully contrived.

That said, I find Will Ferrel's gay cowboy face that he's doing up there amusing (you look at it - it's exactly what he's doing).

  • Nicole_OCTV

I'm pretty sure that Leslie Mann is supposed to be dressed like Goldie Hawn from Laugh-In, but I don't know if they're all based on characters from that show or not. I've never actually seen it, so I have no idea. However, I'm going to assume that they are in order for these pictures to make sense in my brain.

  • Bert_McGurt

I think Leslie Mann is supposed to be an homage to Goldie Hawn circa Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. And Chris Rock looks to be dressed as either of the "Wild and Crazy Guys". Not that it makes any more sense.

  • Miss Laaw-yuhr

Well now I feel like an idiot for not getting it (I'm just not familiar with pre-Private Benjamin Goldie Hawn), but I'm still classifying this cover a failure.

  • Blake

Where the F$%@ is Louie CK??? Megan Fox? So it's her comedic talents that she is famous for?

Side note: Seinfeld was never funny.

  • BendinIntheWind

Louis is in there - they have him answering the Proust Questionnaire

  • NoPantsMcLane

Do you really think someone like Louie would do something as awfully cheesy as these covers? No. No, no no... No.

  • Me

Louis is on the list, there's just no picture of him.

  • Blake

Thanks Me. He is one of the "Dozens More"...

  • Bedewcrock

I feel like Louis CK may have turned down the cover.....which I kind of like.

  • Natallica

Second that. Most of my friends love Seinfeld, but I have never, ever found him remotely funny. And why is Jim Carrey there? He hasn't made a good comedy since forever

  • celery

All the people on the covers are in Judd Apatow's new movie. Or so I've heard.

  • julea

THANK YOU. I get so much grief for not loving Seinfeld. Louis CK, however, I am in complete and total love with.

  • Three_nineteen

Seinfeld's standup was never than funny. His TV show was awesome, but I think that was mostly thanks to Larry David.

  • Nicole_OCTV

Totally agree with this. I've never liked his standup, but I love the show. And I attribute 99.5% of that to Larry David, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, Michael Richards et. al. That .5% is for Jerry's one line that I quote all the time, 'But I don't wanna be a pirate!'. That was funny.

  • POINGjam

I tried to do a Seinfeld cliche, but it reads too much like an impression of Andy Rooney. Great minds.
