FYI: That 'Gotti' Movie Starring John Travolta You Forgot About Isn't Coming Out Next Week Anymore

It’s not terribly unusual for a movie to get pushed from its release date. Maybe it needs more work! Maybe the studio doesn’t like the looks of the competition on that weekend! There are plenty of normal reasons to switch up the schedule. What IS unusual is for a film to get pulled from its release date when that release date is only TEN DAYS AWAY. Not pushed. Pulled. Entirely.

And do you know what’s even more unusual than THAT?

For the distributor in question to not only drop the film from that date, but to drop it entirely — selling the rights back to the producers. According to The Tracking Board that’s exactly what Lionsgate has done with Gotti, the mafia biopic starring John Travolta, his wife Kelly Preston, and his daughter Ella Bleu Travolta (alongside some non-Travolta folks). The movie was slated to come out on Dec. 15th. Now it’ll probably come out sometime in 2018, pending the producers’ ability to line up a new distributor.

And do you know what’s even stranger than all THAT?

This movie was directed by Entourage’s Kevin Connolly! Ok, maybe it’s not that strange, but it caught me by surprise. Good for you, E!

Anyway, it’s probably not a great sign that basically nobody remembered that Gotti was supposed to come out next week. Hell, the last time I remember hearing about it I think Lindsay Lohan was still attached to star (this movie has had a crazy development history). So really, this delay could be for the best! Unless we’re about to hear some crazy allegations against Travolta, which, like, is my first instinct whenever anything unusual happens these days.

If you’re interested in the film you won’t be watching next week, here’s the trailer:
