Beam Me Up, Dr. Who / Dustin Rowles

Trade News | December 22, 2008 | Comments (29)

I don’t know a goddamn thing about the original “Star Trek,” and I know even less about “Dr. Who,” so I’m not sure where the amusement in this video lies. But I’m guessing that the way-too-many “Dr. Who” fans among our readers will find it. Or maybe they won’t, in which case, I apologize for wasting eight minutes of your life. I’m just posting it because it came from the same guy who put together the brilliant Star Trek / “Smallville” trailer. Also, Pookie’s been insisting we go to 24/7 posts.

I can only say that both the Shat and old episodes of Star Trek still hold up. Not a fan of the mash-up.

From a technical standpoint it's brilliant work for an amateur; but oh, my goodness. I know it's become a trite thing to say, but in this case it is too appropriate not to say: somebody has far, far too much time on his hands.

I am a fan of both series, but this video didn't do it for me.
Boo-urns.

I'm going to reserve my Judgement until I hear from Jay.

Although she was only on the screen for a brief moment towards the end of the clip, and I had to replay it a couple of times for confirmation, but Donna has nice cans.

Posted by: Pookie at December 22, 2008 11:14 PM

Well, yes, not entirely necessary or funny or anything, but pretty damn impressive work!

They had the shot of Davros but they really should've thrown a Dalek in there somewhere. It doesn't feel like a Who teaser without another Dalek reveal. Good job on the continuity announcer. I would like to know Kirk's history with Donna though. And yes, Catherine is a bit abundant.

Was it just me, or was there no sound on the Trek dialogue after the credits? I stopped watching after 4 minutes. Also, just to be pedantic, it's Doctor Who, never Dr. Who.

Posted by: Jeez Louise at December 23, 2008 2:50 AM

Doctor Who's on first?

Posted by: branded at December 23, 2008 7:39 AM

All that trouble and he didn't have the decency to include the Doctor's own daughter, Cindy-Lou Who.

What a jerk.

Boo-urns

Courtie's my new favorite.

You know, this Unborn movie really has some shitty advertising. First, the seemingly post coital shot, and now an ad where Gary Oldman looks like he's taking a shit. Are they trying to get nominated for a Razzie?

(Update: There's now an ad with what looks like a naked Odette Yustman. All is forgiven, for I am a man of simple, yet refined tastes.)

Pookie lives in a small dump town, now wants 24/7 postings... can you say Meth Lab?

Posted by: Ted at December 23, 2008 9:23 AM

OK, the video could have been better, but cute just the same. Still, if Kirk is going to meet The Doctor, The Doctor should have been Patrick Troughton.

Posted by: BWeaves at December 23, 2008 9:39 AM

My overall reaction is "meh". But it was worth it for the picture of David Tennant up there (thankfully Catherine Tate-free).

Posted by: PaddyDog at December 23, 2008 10:07 AM

Amen to that, PaddyDog. I get the premise of Donna, but I don't have to like it.

Christmas HAS come early for the Stella household. Today the mailbox shall hold not one, not two, but THREE Doctor Who dvd's. I wish I could leave work early.... Season 4 commences at 1801.

Does anyone know if any of Tennant's other work is Netflix-able? I can't seem to locate anything other than Harry Potter - and even then, he's only there for a minute or so. He's done mostly stage and tv work, but I wonder just the same.

Hey, and did ya'll hear that they're supposed to film a couple episodes of Doctor Who in the States? Or was that entirely wishful thinking on my part?

Posted by: Stella at December 23, 2008 10:27 AM

Must gently disagree with Cindy. Whenever I catch a "Star Trek" re-run I either spend the hour laughing or amazed that we took it So Seriously the first time through. The moral of each show seems pounded home with a sledgehammer.

Oh, make no mistake, I loved 'em when I was a kid.

Posted by: bucdaddy at December 23, 2008 11:03 AM

Yeah I think it's mainly a lot of TV that one would have to download. Dammit, I still haven't watched "Learners", it's just sitting there tapping its foot.

I hadn't heard about US filming myself but there's this:

Ah, Julie. New Style Welsh Girlfriend with big metal things around your neck that you need to get rid of.

Posted by: Jay at December 23, 2008 11:05 AM

that was cute. i enjoyed it.

my phone rang while i was watching and i got confused for a minute--the Doctor Who theme music is my ringtone. i was out shopping for x-mas ornaments yesterday and my phone rang and some woman got really excited because she thought there were Doctor Who x-mas ornaments in the store. it was amusing. of course, i would be really excited if i found some Doctor Who ornaments around here, especially if they were little Daleks.

This just reminds me that I don't think I thanked you for your Christmas card, Jay. AND I don't intent to! Mwahahaha.
(I mean, Thank you.)

Posted by: jamiepants at December 23, 2008 1:54 PM

Really? Did they really have to use "Journey's End" footage? Really? I am not made of stone, people.

I hate to disagree with Paddy, but there is no such thing as too much Donna Noble. And she does have quite a chest on her.

Posted by: Nicole at December 23, 2008 2:58 PM

the Doctor Who theme music is my ringtone.

Are you in the UK where that's normal or do you have a phone that'll actually let you do what you want, unlike Verizon?

Sure, I was able to put the TARDIS sound into my phone, but I can't make it a ringtone.

Mind you, I don't keep the phone on my person and I'm usually the only person who'd hear it ring, so I'm not contradicting my noise pollution stance...I just really want to hear it myself!

Posted by: Jay at December 23, 2008 3:18 PM

Jay, I have Verizon and I can download ringtones... I've had Yoda's "MMM, message from the dark side" as a ringtone for some time now.

Posted by: Stella at December 23, 2008 3:28 PM

Jay, i actually have Verizon, but i couldn't find a Doctor Who ringtone anywhere so i made it. i don't know anything about audio editing, but it sounds pretty good on my computer and you can tell what it is on my phone. i can text it to you--then you can set it as a ringtone--if you want.

Posted by: pq at December 23, 2008 4:48 PM

Well that's the problem, the Verizon version of the Razr is apparently all blocked up, so I can put any sound I want in "My Sounds" but there's no "Set as ringtone" option.

As 2 Live Crew said, This is not CHINA!

Posted by: Jay at December 23, 2008 5:35 PM

Jay, if you have a message with sound it should have the option to set as a ringtone. i made one from the drums of BsG too, but it sounds awful on my phone.

i do realize that i'm a stranger on the internet, and recognize that it is an odd offer. i just really wanted a Doctor Who ringtone and i was annoyed that i couldn't find one for my phone and i don't mind sharing.

Posted by: pq at December 23, 2008 7:41 PM

The Doctor Who theme is my ringtone, too.
I am a massive dork.

Posted by: Courtie at December 23, 2008 8:01 PM

Hmmm. Well, I'll do some futzing and see what happens.

Posted by: Jay at December 23, 2008 8:16 PM

I never got into Star Trek actually. Battlestar Galactica sounds pretty cool though and I'll probably Netflix it to catch up with it at some point...

Posted by: ph at December 24, 2008 4:49 PM

Those of you using 'your cousin who tapes things for you' or 'telepathy' or whatever the in-vogue euphemism for piracy is should try and find the Christmas special ("The Next Doctor") asap. Nice, tight little episode and Dervla Kirwan's impressive cleavage - the best way to specnd Christmas.
