It's OK to Cry. No One Will Judge You

I always hated Speedy Gonzales as a kid. What did we need with a fast mouse when we already had the Road Runner? Speedy Gonzales was just the Road Runner plus a lot of Latino stereotypes.

Hey! That makes George Lopez perfect to voice the speedy mouse in the big-screen live-action/animated hybrid (I blame you, Alvin and the Chipmunks). Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen (Garfield) will pen the script, because they’re apparently familiar with very bad big-screen bastardizations of cartoon characters.

But don’t worry, this is not the racist Speedy. It apparently has George Lopez’s “Latino seal of approval.” So, not racist then? Just terribly unfunny.

I’d burn down something, but what’s the fucking point?

Andale! Arriba! Seppuku!

The best thing about Speedy Gonzales was teaching kids about the siesta. You can nap anywhere, anytime; just look at how much they do it in Mexico!

I read the title of this article in Speedy's voice, just from seeing the picture. Weird.

I used to watch this, but it was never a favourite, although I did like shouting arriba arriba! as a kid.

Once again hollywood's double standards rears it's ugly head. So if this movie is a hit does that mean they will dig out the old cartoons and throw them on TV again?

Posted by: EricD at February 24, 2010 11:55 AM

They'll put this on the big screen but we can't have a Smurfs CGI movie?

Wait, what? They made a fucking Smurf movie? Oh for fucks sake...

No, no, this is actually good news. I don't know about the movie (read: I could give a shit), but this means that George Lopez's career has begun the "Eddie Murphy arc". He'll be stuck in an unending franchise, voicing an animated creature, thus reducing actual acting jobs, thus fading into obscurity.

Buh-bye, George!

I never liked Speedy. Not because of any stereotype shit, as that never bugged me, but because of how damn HYPER he was. And I always hated the Looney Toons characters that ALWAYS won, you know? I was with the underdogs every time--Daffy, Coyote, Silvester. I mostly hated Bugs, Roadrunner, Speedy and Tweety because they were a bunch of smug motherfuckers.

But I really liked Slowpo Rodriguez.

Speedy wasn't fat, gringo, that was Slowpoke Rodriguez.

But I guess they all look alike to you.

I hated Speedy Gonzales; not because he was a Road Runner rip-off or even because of the bad Latino stereotypes (since I was a little young to understand them at the time), but because when you ignore the "Yea-Ha ¡Ándale! ¡Ándale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba!" you realize that he was just a fleet-footed thief with a bad accent. That's it. Either he was stealing cheese from Sylvester or firewood from Daffy...he was quite literally a verminous little criminal with the Flash's super speed.

There was nothing redeeming about him. You could have slapped any racial stereotype you wanted to on his facade and he'd still be a criminal; Thrust McClure, Sonic Sanjay, Turbo Jacques, Hot Rod Heigl, Jet Li...you get the idea. Basically he was able to steal things so fast he couldn't be caught. Really George? This is how far we've come burying ignorant forms of entertainment? 1955? Why doesn't WB just revive "Tokio Jokio" while they're at it?

I always hated Speedy (and the Road Runner, too, for that matter) because he was always so stinkin' perky on Saturday morning, when I was groggy and bleary-eyed.

I still hate morning people to this day.

this movie ain't gonna be shit if it ain't got Slowpoke Rodriguez in it.

and , Slowpoke Rodriguez wasn't fat, just lazy and doped out of his mind.

I'm going to be the only one in the world pointing this gd thing out. When Cartoon Network pulled Speedy in late 90s early 00s...the Latino Community (and whatever there verison of the NAACP is) got pissed because and now I'm fucking quoting "Speedy Gonzalex is a very happy character who usually ends up on taop...as a matter of fact, the broadcast standards editor at NBC who approved that show is a Mexican American. He speaks with a heavey accent and he thought it was wonderful [the shorts]" (Hendershot 41).

I EVEN CITED IT!...I'm wondering where the news keeps getting this un-PC crap from. The book also has some amazing things to say about Eek the Cat and the standards and practices notes on that show.

maybe we can dig thru other animated vaults, and get koko the clown out to rape bety boop in surreal surreal land, or maybe make a full length feature of of big lipped black faced ju-jube babies. there's all kinds of old-timey cartoons ripe for the plucking.

what we really need is an expose on mi9ghty mouse and his meth habit. . .we need more super mice who take pills to feel up!

I just wanna share my experience here. I found my boyfriend several months ago, who is 10 years older than me, at http://EUAgeless.com/, a free place for age-gap relationship. It's fabulous! Maybe you wanna check it!
