Cartoon Network gave Adventure Time fans a real punch to the heart meats when they announced the adored animated series would end following its ninth season. Fortunately, that still gives us two seasons to revel in the quests and shenanigans of Jake the dog and Finn the human. And before these kick off, Cartoon Network is unfurling an 8-episode mini-series: Adventure Time Islands!

Check out the first look below:

Considering the incredible job the Adventure Time team did with the wholly original mini-series Over the Garden Wall, we expect mathematical things from Adventure Time Islands.

Devotees of the show know that Finn and Jake don’t just live in a fantastical paradise of talking candy, rock-loving vampires, and a nutty but not-all-bad Ice King. The episodes will kick off on January 30th on Cartoon Network at 7:30 p.m. (ET, PT), 2 eps airing each night that week. Or you can snatch em up on the 24th through purchase on iTunes, Amazon Video, and Google Play. And if ever there was a time for a fable about the dangers of nuclear engagement, it’s this January, right?

Too real? Sorry. Um. Here’s Jake singing about a tropical island:

Kristy Puchko is still rooting for a PBubs and Marcelline spinoff.
