Smith Decides to Hit Us With a Nice Stiff One

Roiled up on residual airline diss rage and weed, Kevin Smith spilled the beans to NHL.com about his lead for the upcoming Hit Somebody. It’s to be none other than Seann William Scott, which will make this their third collaboration.

I can see SWS as a hockey player. I’m totally behind this decision. Despite his declaration to play Stifler as long as they’ll have him, I think that’s just more of his strangely upbeat Christian moxie than any sort of desperation ploy. Kid’s got some decent chops — within a range. In the mxyzptlk of Southland Tales, he held his own. And he impressed the bejeezus out of me in The Promotion. It’s not like he’s doing Shakespeare, he’s just playing a hockey guy.

But I think Smith is going a little fucking overboard in his proclamations that SWS will be Tom Hanks Big. Maybe Tom Hanks Volunteers? Or Versus a Volcano? But superstardom? Neh. I mean, the dude did totally blossom Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, and even a little Matt Damon. But saying Seann William Scott’s gonna be a big big star? Like a second plane seat, I just don’t buy it.

He is a tasty piece of man candy though. I'm just saying. And he was cute in Role Models, especially in the KISS make-up.

I dunno. Help me out here, someone - there's something about the guy that just makes my back teeth ache... But I just can't say exactly what it is...

I think Role Models proved that if you put a good enough script in front of him, his "drunken douchebag idiot" shtick can be used for good, rather than just evil.

Posted by: ChristianH at February 23, 2010 10:37 AM

I definitely don't think he'll ever be a superstar, but I find him pretty amusing. Also, I'd like to mention how much I love that you dropped mxyzptlk so casually into this conversation.

In the mxyzptlk of Southland Tales,

in the *what* now?

He is a tasty piece of man candy though.

Umm, YES. Agreed. Concurred. Wholeheartedly.

Aha. I see. You're a big geek, is what that means. Got it.

Hmm... this explains a lot.
Hey Prisco, how do you pronounce kltpzyxm?

Posted by: Optimus Rhyme at February 23, 2010 11:30 AM

He didn't play drunken idiot in The Promotion and I was surprised to see that he was actually pretty good. That movie was much better than I ever expected it to be.

Ditto Ditto on the man candy. And, generally, I find him amusing, and sometimes he surprises me with a bit of depth. So, Yay!.

Also, with that picture, BUNK!

You are such a nerd.

I think his eyes bug me. They're not right. They're too small and just...don't look right, dammit. And his smirk is sort of insufferable. But mostly the eyes. He's freaky.

Posted by: figgy at February 23, 2010 12:11 PM

Thanks, figgy - it's the EYES.

Only Clint Eastwood can pull off the unending squint.

Damn wannabe.

Gotta remember mxyzptlk for my next round of Words with Friends. I know I'm an uber nerd, but for those of you out there who play, imagine scoring that word on a TW tile!

He could so hit me with his nice stiff one.

Posted by: esme at February 23, 2010 2:30 PM

I am likely to see this movie.
I not likely to be wearing pants or sober.
I am likely to bring lubricants and snacks.
I'm not likely to be wowed by Seann William Scotts actoring.
I am likely to leave completely satisfied, nonetheless.
