"Saturday Night Live" Abruptly Loses a Cast Member

According to the folks over at Entertainment Weekly, “Saturday Night Live” and Paul Brittain have parted ways. Apparently, the split was amicable and mutual, although things like this rarely are. Maybe Brittain actually did have other offers to pursue, maybe he thought he was being underused (he was), maybe he was too similar to Taran Killam, or maybe he looked at Lorne Michaels funny.

Either way, it’s kind of a bummer because Brittain — best known for his character Lord Windermere, though he also did a great James Franco — was pretty good. Then again, the pop culture landscape is littered with those who were abruptly dropped by “SNL,” including most recently “Happy Endings’” Casey Wilson.

He probably made better money as a bike messenger.

It was probably less humiliating too.

Don't freak me out like that man. Internet is going slow. I had to wait, like, 45 seconds to make sure Bill Hader was still going to be on the show.

Oh my god, you almost gave me a heart attack with that header photo! I refuse to live in a world without Stefon Bill Heder.

I liked his Ron Paul impression. Here's hoping he lands well!

"Sex" Ed Vincent, you will be missed :(

So SNL is choosing to ignore Ron Paul too?

I've never heard of such a brutal and shocking injustice, I cared so little about.

Man, is there anything Zap Brannigan doesn't have a quote for.

If I had to pick one person to lose on SNL, it would be Paul Brittain. Although he only has one trick, at least Jay Pharoah does have the one.

So they drop the guy who can do more than just impressions but keep the guy who only does lame Denzel Washington impressions?

Good to know.

This news made me sad. I actually really dig the current lineup so I'd be bummed to see anyone cut, but I'll really miss Lord Windermere!

This is a bummer. He was totally underused & had great potential. His Sex Ed was/is hilarious & his impressions were great. I thought he might emerge as a key player once some of the veterans left.

If/when he comes back to Chicago, I am going to ply him with drink until I find out how he got thrown out. Knew him from the improv scene; nice guy, hilarious performer, I can't imagine that this was a mutual decision.

@haplo:
Just so that we're clear, Jay Pharoah's Denzel is PERFECT.
