Who Is the Coolest Woman on the Planet?

Sarah-Polley-789129-small.jpg

There are quite a few great actresses in Hollywood, and obviously a lot of attractive ladies, but there is no cooler woman than Sarah Polley. That’s indisputable. I mean, you could dispute it, but you’d be wrong. And kind of a douche. And nobody likes a douche. So shut the fuck up already and agree with me here: Sarah Polley can rock every inch of your face off. Also, she’s brilliant.

So brilliant, in fact, that she wrote one of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays in 2009.

Now, it’s being produced. Polley will direct Take This Waltz, a follow-up to her critically successful Away from Her. The movie is about a love-triangle concerning a woman who realizes that she may be addicted to the honeymoon phase of her relationships. The problem? She’s been married for five years. She meets a man named Seth on a business trip and finds out that Seth lives in the same neighborhood. Fancy that! A little flirting leads to a little something else, and suddenly, you’ve got yourself a full-blown life crisis on your hands.

While in Sundance supporting her movie, Splice, it was also revealed that she’s nabbed two of the three leads for the movie already: Seth Rogen and Michelle Williams. Now, that’s an interesting pair, which is to say: Interesting inasmuch as Michelle Williams would never marry or carry on an affair with Seth Rogen, but this is actressin’ y’all. And if anyone can convince you that she’s in love with Seth Rogen, it’d be Michelle Williams, who is not that much less cool that Sarah Polley. And either Williams’ talent will rub off on Rogen, or his lack of dramatic talent will be all the more exposed while acting opposite her. Unless Rogen’s character is a pot-smoker, in which case he should be just fine.

Production is set to begin in July in Toronto, and the film is being financed by Telefilm Canada. Polley and Rogen are also Canadian. Michelle Williams is from Montana, which is kind of like Canada, except not at all cool. Fact.

Get wet!

Oh man, I am IN LOVE with Sarah Polley. Ever since I was a wee lad and saw her in "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen."

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen -- IN MY PANTS!

Man, where is my fiance'?

I am a huge fan of Sarah Polley! I hope she lives to be 150 and makes movies the whole span.

Posted by: PussyToTheWood! at January 28, 2010 10:15 PM

Yes, Sarah Polley is awesome. I am excited to read this article. But, y'know what I'm really not excited about? The "click to continue to site" ads that I have to go through just to read things here these days. Make them go away.

Posted by: Kiddo at January 28, 2010 10:19 PM

Oh PussyToTheWood!, that is a fantastic name. Good times.

Posted by: Kiddo at January 28, 2010 10:22 PM

Go, Sarah Polley! (Sorry about that one. So sorry.)

Posted by: BierceAmbrose at January 28, 2010 10:47 PM

I still can't get past her "Road to Avonlea" days (a Canadian TV show that was basically a spin-off of Anne of Green Gables). I'm sure she's a wonderful director, actor, writer, etc. I just keep seeing her as snobby Sarah Stanley getting picked on by Felicity King.
Ah, good old Canadian programming...

Posted by: Superfish at January 28, 2010 11:04 PM

Who the fuck is Sarah Polley?

Posted by: figgy at January 28, 2010 11:11 PM

Oh, her. Really? Eh.

Posted by: figgy at January 28, 2010 11:12 PM

Script sounds interesting enough - and Michelle Williams is a good pick. That's as much as I'll say for now.

Posted by: Cindy at January 28, 2010 11:13 PM

Oh, Road To Avonlea, I forgot all about that.

Posted by: Kiddo at January 28, 2010 11:39 PM

sarah who ???

Posted by: snake at January 29, 2010 12:47 AM

RONNA!!!

Posted by: gp at January 29, 2010 12:49 AM

I've had a massive boner for Sarah Polley ever since she was a judge at Sundance one year and unlike SOME judges (*cough* Mos Def *cough*), she got her tiny booty (seriously, the woman is pint-sized) to every screening she could and would wait outside in the tents with the rabble and one time was just sitting on the ground of the tent eating soup. There, that's my boring, indie, celebrity gossip squeee. SARAH POLLEY EATING SOUP ON THE GROUND!

Posted by: coveredinbees at January 29, 2010 1:52 AM

go Sarah Polley go! Canadians rockin' the party!

Posted by: idleprimate at January 29, 2010 3:00 AM

Felicity was such a bitch. Aunt Hetty was a bitch, too -- but with a heart of gold.

Posted by: J. K. Barlow at January 29, 2010 4:54 AM

Aunt Hetty was a bitch. But she mellowed when they paired her off with the guy who ran the White Sands Hotel... I can't remember his name. I want to say Tremain?

Anyway, I love Sarah Polley, I want to be her when I grow up.

Posted by: Tierney at January 29, 2010 5:10 AM

I love her! Right back to the good old day of 'Baron Munchausen' even though that film terrifed and thrilled me in equal measures. And, of course, my fave 'Go' Ronna rocked my shit!

Posted by: Nieve 'The Threadkiller Queen' at January 29, 2010 5:16 AM

Hey waitaminnit...wasn't she in the Dawn of the Dead remake? Hell, she gets mad props from me just for that.

Posted by: ASterisk at January 29, 2010 7:47 AM

The only thing I can really remember seeing her in was My Life Without You, which I think I was enjoying until the bit where her neighbour talks about having conjoined twins, a boy and a girl, and then I spent the whole movie waiting for her to be exposed as a fraud, since this can't happen, and she wasn't. I have no idea what else happened in that film, but that bugged me to death.

BITCH GET OUT THE ROOM!!

Sarah Polley is, in fact, unspeakably cool. And for me, it is in spite of/because of one role: Ramona Quimby, Age 8.

Posted by: Courtney at January 29, 2010 10:07 AM

Oh man. I'm sorry. I'll be the douche. Every time I see her in something, I think she's the most overrated indie darling ever.

And she needs to wash her hair.

Posted by: Melissa at January 29, 2010 10:52 AM

She ruled in the Weight of Water. Watch it

Posted by: Bethers at January 29, 2010 11:14 AM

Er, several hours later I realise I meant My Life Without Me. I think I was incorporating Me Without You, due to Michelle William.s

the new transported man: HAAAAAAAAAAA!

Posted by: figgy at January 29, 2010 12:20 PM

I'm down with Polley. She was good in "The Sweet Hereafter." And yeah, "Dawn of the Dead," too.

Posted by: Slash at January 29, 2010 12:20 PM

My Life Without Me was great. It made me do the ugly cry though. I can usually rock the type of crying where I just look all vulnerable and romantically tragic, but this one was the full on swollen-faced sobbing.

Dustin, the headline here is certainly a step toward making up for your rejection of Sarah Polley as Person of the Decade. Please send all information about her movies directly to my e-mail in the future!

I've been a Sarah Polley fan since before I could ride a bike. Glad to see she's getting the respect I've always thought she deserved.

you know dustin lately i've been kinda, damn I love Pajiba but clearly pajiba doesn't love me and the more we go on the less we seam to have in common, and of course then I start overanalyzing and basically destroy in my head whatever relationship I am in, friendly or more than friendly (I will let you guess of what kind my relationship with pajiba is, i'll give you an hint: i'm not wearing any underwear). and then this happen and you make me all "of course we are good to each other, what the fuck were you thinking?" so thank you pajiba,
thank you because I love you enough for the both of us.

I guess you didn't see Observe & Report? Great stuff by Rogen there. Very dark.
