The next big action star, Sam Worthington, is stepping in to replace one from the old guard, Tom Cruise, on The Tourist. Charlize Theron has been attached to the project — a remake of the French thriller, Anthony Zimmer — for nearly a year. Tom Cruise had initially signed on, but opted instead to do James Mangold’s Wichita, opposite Cameron Diaz.

This is the latest movie in Sam Worthington’s career, which has him set up to be one of the biggest stars on the planet by March of next year. He’s the lead in James Cameron’s Avatar, the lead in the remake of The Clash of the Titans, and he’s already made his presence known in Terminator Salvation, where he bettered Christian Bale in the actressin’ department. Worthington has also completed Late Night — with Keira Knightley and Eva Mendes — will will be released in March, the same month Clash of the Titans hits the big screen.

The Tourist is about an Interpol Agent played by Theron, who uses an American tourist in an attempt to flush out an elusive criminal who was once her lover. Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day) is set to direct from the screenplay written by
Julian Fellowes (Vanity Fair, Gosford Park), which seems like an odd choice for a thriller that is neither a costume drama or a comedy of manners.

So it's a remake of "Gotcha!"?

Wow - Worthington indeed seems to be in the catbird seat these days.

The name of that Knightley-Mendes drama is Last Night, by the way - not to be confused with the solid Canadian end-of-the-world drama of about ten years ago, or - now that I check the IMDB - any of the many other movies with that same title. I read the script; it has the potential to be a solid drama about adult relationships. It's in the vein of Carnal Knowledge and Closer but without quite the level of bitterness those films exude.

I'll see this movie for Worthington alone. I will watch him in anything... Avatar, Clash of the Titans, Last Night, his shower...

...I'll be in my bunk.

@Mel: you haven't seen him in "Macbeth" yet have you?

You know, where he (as Macbeth) and the three witches seal their deal by having a mini-orgy (did I mention that the witches transform to three girls in school girl uniforms?)

Not the greatest of movies BUT fun.

Hmm...He cute.

I haven't seen him in anything but I'll keep an eye out. Sounds like he'll be pretty much unavoidable this spring in any case.

@Fredo - I haven't seen that one... but I'll be looking for it! Thanks!

Marcus simply shrugs.

Hey guys, would you like to date a cougar? Or are you a cougar yourself? Okay, no matter you are looking for an NSA, FWB or serious relationship. You'll want to check this out:

Yeah I've got that version of Macbeth, it's an Aussie production made in my home town of Melbourne. It wasn't great - terrible directing. But it's Shakespeare and it's got Wortho so it's worth(o) a look.

I am very happy he's going to be in more stuff. He's lovely. I even watched that Australian giant crocodile movie he was in. Well, I skipped to his bits mostly, it was pretty bad.

This feels a little too much like a Disney child actor's coming out party.

I'm skeptical til I get to feel around for horns, fangs, or those dopey frisbee ears.
