Hey Everybody! Great news: It was announced today that Ricky Gervais, he of “The Office,” and “Extras” fame (and who also wrote and starred in The Invention of Lying, which wasn’t very good) is set to host the Golden Globes this year. But before you get excited, let’s take second to remember that 1) while the Golden Globes are generally more entertaining than the Oscars, part of that reason is because there a) is no host, b) everybody is drunk and, 2) as Jon Stewart has proven as host of the Oscars, no host — no matter how good — can truly salvage an awards ceremony. They can deliver a decent monologue, but at the end of the day, awards ceremonies are still about often pompous actors thanking people you don’t know or care about.
So with that, here are the Five Best Golden Globes Hosts of All Time:
5.
4. Lauren Bacall (1999)
3.
2.
1. Ricky Gervais (2010)
