Fox apparently got sick of everyone and their dog posting rumors about Prometheus and decided to just go ahead and release a plot synopsis of their own. This should finally get it ironed out just whether or not this is going to be a prequel to Alien, just set in the same universe, feature xenomorphs, etc. Here’s the plot synopsis:

Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.

Oh fantastic, so Ridley Scott is making a feature version of Stargate: Universe?

I kid. Even though the synopsis perfectly fits that series, it also perfectly fits just about any other science fiction film equally well. If this synopsis told you any less about the movie, it would actually impart negative knowledge, sucking the very knowledge of the film’s existence out of your brain. About the only film this synopsis rules out is a Sex and the City sequel.

Please let this be a Stargate Universe feature. I loved that show.

So Ridley is down to his last 10 million?

So, if I hear you correctly, it could be a SATC prequel?

A SATC prequel in which Kim Catral finally sheds her human form and exists as a gooey alien beast with a taste for human flesh?

I'll eat popcorn to that.

I stumbled upon the film set of this last Saturday and took some pictures. They're incredibly boring and don't really reveal very much but could be a world exclusive nonetheless. You interested pajiba ?

....and I didn't see any actors either. The pictures are basically of some shacks that the cast of Lost would be ashamed of.

Not really selling them very well am I ?

Event HOrizon popped in my head while reading the synopsis.

So, basically, some people do some stuff out in space?

So, that synopsis tells us even *less* than anything that's gone before. With that level of vague-ity, it could be a sequel, a prequel, a re-boot, or a movie without aliens at all. It could be a movie about some people discover what they *think* are aliens, but they're not really aliens, they're all IN THE MIND. And that's how they discover the answer to life's deepest mystery, which is, "It's all in your head."

Or, as Fiona Apple said, "He said 'It's all in your head' and I said 'So's everything,' but he didn't get it."

This read almost exactly like the old promo for The Three Stooges in Orbit.
