Porn!

Well now, that’s an easy way to get you in here.

All I need to know from HBO is: How will the Skarsgård be involved, because I’m behind this idea 150 1/2 percent. Come on, think about it. Any show involving a naked Skarsgård would be a guaranteed money-maker. And I’ve heard he doesn’t do socks, so BONUS.

Oh alright, I’ll try to get back to business, even though you know I’m right. Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson (who both produce Entourage and Boardwalk Empire) are set to produce an hour-long drama based on a James Frey penned pilot. Yes, that James Frey. At least we know he has embellishment skills, right?

Described as a “sprawling epic about the porn business in LA”, the show will follow a girl who moves to the city to be a star, along with the struggle of a video company dealing with internet competitors. While that premise sounds ridiculously cliche, if they get the right stars (Skarsgård!) and do it in an interesting way (naked!), it could work. I mean come on, it’s porn! And if it doesn’t work out, HBO can do an hour-long Frey apologizes to Oprah episode. Naked.

That's what she said! (Sorry. I had to. I've tried to remove that from my daily, IRL lexicon, but when it's that wide open, I can't say no...)

What they should do is a remake of that "porn" show Fox did a few years back. Y'know, the one that starred Olivia Wilde. Yes. Let's put that on HBO. STAT.

Hopefully it's better than that last HBO series that was all about sex. What was that series again? The one with Penny from "Lost" and it was about those various couples: Penny and her beau couldn't conceive, some other couple never had sex, some girl was a nympho or something, there was some old couple, the woman, I believe, was a therapist of one (or perhaps all) of the people, who had some sexual issues. Maybe the old people's sexual issue was just being old.

I watched it twice. It was horrible and painfully repetitive. It was just the same people bitching about the same god damned problem over and over and over again. Every scene with Penny and her beau was about not having a kid, every scene with the middle-aged couple not having sex was about how they didn't have sex, every scene about the nympho girl was about her sleeping around with someone.

I also felt like the whole use of profanity was off in that show. I don't mind profanity in the slightest, but it was like the writers were trying too hard to be cool and edgy and just had to keep throwing random swear words in every other fucking sentence because they were an edgy show on HBO about sex.

That's what he said.

Look at you now HBO, you had the “Wire” and the “Sopranos” and you thought it was going to be sooooooo easy to entertain the masses after those shows ended. I guess “Eastbound & Down” and motherfucking “Flight of the Conchords” ain’t doing the trick. Bitch! now you got to parade motherfuckers around butt booty naked just to draw in viewers. You might as well skip all the pretense and start a new HBO channel and call it HBOXXX.

Oh come on! Like True Blood isn't 90% porn at this point.

Not complaining, obviously.

I believe Montana Fishburne sent them her audition tape.

jeezus holy god, what is it with HBO and sex? Since they lost every decent series they've had, it seems as if HBO is desperate to try to reproduce their success by just buying some half-assed plot-line that directly or indirectly deals with sex. Once Entourage stopped being about friends and instead turned into a story about who is fucking who, in about the 3rd season, it blew. And then they had those therapy shows which were just lame and showed dumb characters you didn't give a sh!t about having bad sex, all portrayed in a dim poor light... And it just goes on and on.

Meanwhile, I'm watching Weeds, Nurse Jackie, Californication, and The Big C on Showtime. Suck it, HBO!

Best headline ever.

Posted by: MM at August 19, 2010 6:09 PM

Oh, and P.S., you're buryin' the lead here: "a one-hour drama that will use both legit actors and real porn performers." Cuz we've all seen how well that usually works out.

Also, "the show will follow a girl who moves to the city to be a star": aaaaaand cue Poison's Fallen Angel video playing in my head for the rest of the day.

Porn and HBO. Wild horses couldn't keep me from reading this article.
That being said, I can't say I'm particularly swayed either way.

@cindy: you got me.

So...like...are you implying Oprah should be naked or something. You shut your mouth. You're nasty.

Posted by: JR at August 19, 2010 7:48 PM

this is an "idea" I can get behind.

Posted by: ja at August 19, 2010 8:24 PM

Whoa, Czech HBO?

Posted by: denesteak at August 19, 2010 8:27 PM

Ill def give it a go.
James Freys book Bright shiny morning is really rather good and charming and memorable.
That could be made into a series.
Porn tho. I mean, I like fucking in my tv shows but keep the porn separate from the serious drama. It could work as a comedy maybe.

Posted by: supafly at August 19, 2010 9:21 PM

I like porn, but I ain't payin' for it. Sorry HBO.

Posted by: Lindsey with an 'e' at August 20, 2010 12:20 AM

damn, porn goes legit, there's another pastime down the tubes. ewww, i really did not just phrase that sentence in juicy fashion on purpose.

porn should have glaring lighting and bad music, and as we all know, HBO shows are well shot(i didn't actually say that) and have uber hip soundtracks(i don't mean to refer to hips).

is it just me or, once you say the word porn, does even the worst fortune cookie take on naughty overtones without even adding the suffix "in bed"?

Posted by: idleprimate at August 20, 2010 5:19 AM

Let me try that, idleprimate (from an actual fortune cookie fortune my dad got):

You might get hungry later. Try some takeout ... in bed.

*admires work, did it just get hot in here or is it me?*

Yep, yep, it does. I'll be in my porn.

Thank you for the freshmen steps. That's helpful. I have a query, as a beginners, how do you build credibility in the niche? I assume we have to construct credibility to construct the list?
