Well At Least the Poor Soul Is Moving On

Whew, at least Polanski didn’t let the whole thirty-seven seconds in prison thing get him down. He’s already started working on his next film, which is a relief to everyone who thinks that quality high minded cinema is more important to the world than worrying about actually punishing convicted child molesters. Say what you want about Michael Bay’s shitsplosions onto the screen, but at least he hasn’t been convicted of sodomizing a thirteen year old. He’s certainly violated our childhoods, but really, he’s not the first to go there.

Here’s the summary of Polanski’s next film, called God of Carnage and based on the play of the same name that has won a bunch of Tonys and such.

The play is about two pairs of parents, one of whose child has hurt the other at a public park, who meet to discuss the matter in a civilized manner. However, as the evening goes on, the parents become increasingly childish, resulting in the evening devolving into chaos.

You know, that’s the sort of description that if you said “It won a Tony and Polanski is directing,” people gush how high-minded it sounds. But if you said that it starred Kevin James, people would dismiss it for the crap that it sounds like.

Know what the kid in the play did? The other kid wouldn’t let him play with his group of friends. So kid #1 knocked his front two teeth out with a stick. Well shit, change an orifice and I can see exactly why Polanski has been drawn to the story. I wonder if after all the hilarity ensues, and the parents finish their ninety minutes of verbal masturbation, if they will come to the responsible adult decision of sending the violent little shit to a villa in France for thirty years. That’ll show him.

Then at the end, Roman rapes both children just because he can and will get away with it and they probably deserved it and it wont be RAPE rape.

Oh god damn it I'd gone since thursday without using the R word!

Fuck you Polanski

Am I an awful person if I still love the films, Chinatown and Rosemary's Baby? Ugh, this is the one subject that bothers me most, I find myself conflicted because he's such a bad man, but not a bad director.
I saw the play on Broadway and I enjoyed it, very rapid fire dialogue and such. I'll debate whether its worth paying to see with Polanski, it's a hard play to transfer onto the screen, it's all set in a living room and it's all talking.

Sooo....I'm guessing you guys didn't find the multiple threads devoted to Polanski particularly cathartic?

So much hate for Polanski. He banged a 13 year old girl in L.A. in the seventies. God banged a 13 year old girl in Nazareth in 0 A.D. but I don't see anyone giving Him a hard time. Seriously, 13 year old L.A. model goes alone to a movie director's house. This is the not the same kind of girl who lives in Kansas and has horse posters on her wall. I can't believe we're still talking about this 40 years later.

I was unaware that God had first drugged Mary and plied her with liquor. The biblical editors must have missed that.

2 out of 10, Jonzo. Too obvious.

ZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually find the premise quite interesting.

Also, R.Kelly urinating on a 14 year old girl never got in the way of me enjoying Trapped In The Closet. Just sayin'.

I have no love for Polanski, but this has nothing to do with Swiss justice. Their only obligation was to determine the merit of the extradition request and they denied it based on pretty valid grounds (with-holding of documents on the part of the US prosecutor). As I mentioned when this happened, I suspect this was an arrangement that suited everyone. The US was seen to do its job and pursue the fugitive but didn't want to deal with a media circus around the trial and the accompanying Nancy Grace tirade every night and the Swiss were seen to do their best in following process but didn't have to do any more.

Fuck you, Polanski.
And say what you must about the concept of the play, but I saw it and it was fucking brilliant. I do not want Polanski sodomizing my God of Carnage.

TSF, the difference is that one of those cases involved a sex symbol performing semi-deviant sex acts with a young black girl, whereas the other involved a film director performing semi-deviant sex acts with a young white girl. The ethnicity and attractiveness of each parties involved chages everything in the eyes of most people.

Was the 14 year old that R.Kelly released the warm jets on held in place?

Or was it just a case of grinning and bearing it?
'Oh.. Oh my.. That is unpleasant. Did you have asparagus?!'

I saw the play, it was just amazing, smart and darkly funny. I have a hard time with this news because there are many Polanski movies I really like, but we can't unknow or uncare about his history, especially right now with it all up in our faces. So I guess I'm conflicted, which makes me grumpy.

Or, you know, both/and.
