Man, that was quick.

The Playlist (via EW) is reporting that Alejandro Aja’s Piranha 3d is already being fast-tracked for a sequel. Amazing what a single good weekend’s worth of ticket sales will do for you, especially when the movie was made for Hollywood pennies.

Yes, Dimension Films is apparently already moving on a sequel. I don’t know if it will be in 4D, or in Smell-O-Vision (ewww… fishy). Aja already has some ideas kicking around — he told EW, “We had many ideas, like the full moon party in Thailand — a huge event with like 200,00 young people from all around the world taking mushrooms and partying on the beach.”

Yikes. I mean, mushrooms are a weird enough experience. Taking them with 200,000 other people would probably turn my mind into steaming goo. Taking them with 200,000 other people who don’t all speak English would vaporize said goo.

Taking them with 200,000 people who don’t speak English while mutant killer fish turn everyone into ground meat would just ruin my shit. So what I’m saying is…

Hell yes. How the piranha get to Thailand is totally irrelevant.

Oh, and you could make them fly, a la the James Cameron-directed Piranha 2: The Spawning? That would really make my day complete.

I loved Piranha, but that was an exhausting movie to experience. So many conflicting emotions, so many wishes fulfilled that I was immediately thereafter punished for.

I want them to up the ante, but it may be the death of me.

Thank you, Zerath, for being a raging ass. The spoiler in question is the final shock of the film. Now everyone knows.

Then again, anyone who watched the last trailer saw the scene in question but didn't know it was the final twist of the film.

That one at the end didn't fly, it just jumped out of the water. They had been doing that throughout the movie.

Flying piranhas? Seriously? They were already straining our credulity in the first film, now they're going to jump up and down on it, break it into a thousand pieces, and take its lunch money. Bah. Get the hell off my lawn river.
